Welcome to my channel. Here I speak about my life, my journey with autism and things I have found that have really helped me. I try to keep my videos positive and truthful. I really hope you find something here that you relate to and may bring you some comfort.
Do Autistics Have A Shorter Life Expectancy?
Why do autistic people have a lower life expectancy than neurotypical people? In this video I explain why I think this is.

How I Feel About My Shaved Head - 4 Months On
It’s so many emotions. Thank you for making space! It feels like grief, relief, confusion and kind of mourning. It’s made me have a bit of an identity crisis too bc now I’m not just lazy, incompetent, stupid or whatever awful words I’ve been told (and subsequently tell myself), I’m autistic. There are reasons for my struggles. Still, it’s hard learning to be kind and accommodating and feeling worthy of accommodation. Dx at 41
You’re right, it’s definitely a weird challenge to adjust to!!! After a lifetime of thinking you’re just a bit odd or that everyone must feel this way, to realising your brain is actually different!!! Give yourself time, you don’t owe anyone anything, just yourself. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. 🥰
You are right there... Keep Moving!!!😊
Absolutely! 👍
Such good advice
Thank you. 🥰
I say everyday this: "Today is a big holiday, we celebrate the "everyday life"! Love💚

And if I can give you an idea for one of your next Videos: When I am choosing what Videos to look on RUclips, I never look on the "views" of the channel or the "likes". I just look at the content if it is good for my philosophy. I don't want to do what most people are doing but what I find is good for my mindset. Selftrust!
Thanks for the idea and for watching my videos. 😃

You’re welcome. Thanks for watching. 🥰
Thank you god doing this video!! I needed the validation for why parenting feels so much more challenging for me, as an autistic parent. I really wish I had known to use ear plugs when I still had babies- the sound of crying was always SO hard to deal with. I’ve seen other moms be so calm when their baby is crying; hearing my babies cry put me into a panic. I was definitely “touched out” much of the time, and not having quiet to recover/not getting enough sleep was brutal. I remember, right after we brought our third baby home, my husband would tell me to go get some sleep, and, even though I was exhausted, I couldn’t get myself to relax. Breastfeeding made me feel claustrophobic. I have a blog where I’m writing about my experiences; I’ll be writing about parenting in the near future. This video has given me more to think about. ❤
Ah that’s great. Thanks for watching and the idea for the video. Yes, crying is very challenging. I’m the same with one of my cats. He screams a lot, he’s so vocal. Drives me absolutely crazy, it’s like torture!!!! I remember other mums always looking so relaxed and thinking I was a terrible mum. I still think that now sometimes but I’m far kinder to myself now I know my limits!
@@thediaryofnow definitely agree- once I realized I’m autistic I’ve been able to have more grace for myself which has been HUGE! It’s gotten easier as my kids have gotten older, too- I can explain that I need done quiet time etc. I still wouldn’t trade the experience of being a parent for anything- and I’m planning to be as hands on supportive for my kids if/when they have their own kids, because I know how difficult it can be.
You look great with your hair buzzed. Do you enjoy having it on a 0? I’m autistic too and love buzzing mine off on a 0 at the start of every month haha
Thank you. I didn’t mind it but prefer it a bit longer at a grade 1. 🥰
Thats nice! Happy long hair growing! I will keep on watching the progress! Thanks!
I’m not growing it back just yet. It’s at a grade 1 at the moment.

I do wear tiny hoops. I wear glasses so sunglasses aren’t a goer!
Extremely elated & low mood could still indicate a subthreshold bipolar condition. "Crazy" is not a very helpful label.
It’s not a label at all. Absolutely it could indicate other things. For me personally it was autism and that’s what my videos are about, my personal experience.
@@thediaryofnow you said "crazy"multiple times in the video, linking to bipolar disorder & mental illness. Doesn't really help with stigma.
@@BipolarCourage Again. I’m talking about my personal experience of how I felt. Sorry if you’re offended.
@@thediaryofnow it's not about personally being offended. Stigma persists. This can result in people rejecting mental health diagnoses & identifying as autistic instead. And end up in crisis. (Been there, done that).
@@BipolarCourageShe didn’t directly connect crazy to bipolar. She never said being bipolar means being crazy. It seems like you are seeing implications that aren’t there and putting words in her mouth. She’s also not responsible for someone rejecting their previous mental health diagnosis by telling her personal story.
Thank you!
🥰
Can you talk more about your parenting experiences? I’m 40 and recently self-diagnosed, and I’ve been feeling like a crap parent for so long (I guess mostly when my kids were littler and needier), but have found very little talked about parenting while autistic.

Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. Definitely worth looking into, even if it turns out you’re not autistic, you’ve got nothing to lose. I hope you manage to get to the bottom of how you feel. Much love. 🥰
This is such a lovely valuable message you're sharing. Thank you!! ❤✌️☯️ Yes, I've just recently become aware of how many of my family members are on the spectrum, but we all get along splendidly with my non autistic family members. I feel as long as everyone is a caring and loving entity then it's easy to get along.

I'm autistic, my hubby hasn't been assessed but is definitely neurodiverse, and both of my children (female at birth) now adult, are both diagnosed. Familiar themes in this video :)

Thanks for this. It echoed my own experience.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. 🥰
Yes…. I’m 74 and just finding out I’m on the spectrum. So much of my shame was lifted. I felt a great deal of relief. The problem I have now is trying to explain this to my children and other family members.
Ah, that’s great. I understand, it’s not always easy to explain it for people to understand. I really hope everything goes smoothly for you. 🥰
Please, can you describe some of the answers you gave (if you feel comforteable to) I myself am questioning, and Im a 35 y o woman :/
(questioning wether I too could be diagnosed)
It’s not that I don’t feel comfortable, it’s that the questions and conversation is very personal to yourself. They will want to know about your childhood and if you displayed any traits growing up, if so what they were. It’s very thorough.
I was just diagnosed last week at the age of 48, and I think everything you say there really resonates. I'm now into a whole transitional phase where I need to figure out who I want to share that information with and how best to do it. Having the diagnosis feels really good and validating, but I'm still coming to terms with what it means for me in terms of relationships and career prospects. I think it's probably going to take some time for me to start feeling comfortable with thinking about myself in that way before I can really be confident about discussing it with others.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, I’m glad the video helped in some way. Be kind to yourself and take as much time as you need. 🥰
Things we use in everyday's life today, (especially scientific and technological things), they would be considered as "crazy", or impossible, some time in the past, of our human history!
Very true! 👍

Thanks for commenting. It really does! 🥰
I was diagnosed last year, aged 41, and I do sometimes feel like an imposter. I spent four decades assuming I was 'normal'. I'm really struggling to keep it all together right now, and I remind myself that I'm autistic in a world not designed for me. The autism RUclips community is my sanctuary.
That’s it, reminding yourself that you’re trying to be a round peg in a square hole!! I’m sorry you’re struggling at the moment but I’m glad you’ve found a community that you find helpful. Thank you for your comment. 🥰

I’m 40yo and have only worn make up on my wedding day. I’m really glad my husband doesn’t care.
I wish more women felt comfortable to not wear it. I’m glad your husband lets you be yourself. 🥰
It really suits you! I’ve thought about cutting my hair really short (maybe a 4 or so) for months, but it’s hard to commit- what if I freak out right after and regret it completely?? 😬
The first time I shaved it, I had the same worries. That’s why I shaved it to raise money for charity and donated my hair because it was long. That way, even if I didn’t like the result, I’d done a good thing. It also held me accountable so I couldn’t back out!!! Turned out fine but even if it didn’t, I knew it would grow back. It’s a personal choice though, so if you don’t feel comfortable then don’t do it.
Imposter syndrome can REALLY mess with you at times, you're not alone and im so proud of your journey, best of luck :)
Thanks so much. 🥰
Such good advice, i personally always start each and every day by thinking of something to be grateful for, I call it 365 Grateful. Make the choice to be an optimist, not a pessimist
That sounds like a great way to start the day. 🙌

its insanely hard ! and the constant strain makes life an eternal burnout. i try -though not always succed- to keep a healthy blaaance between my needs and my kid's needs, and to also teach them about limits and boundaries . but who ever said it takes a village was not joking... sadly in our modern individualistic world finding one isn't easy. I'm ADHD, probably AuDHD (only have the former officially diagnosed for now) and I have a very irregular work/effort output, which has always been an issue at school then at work. It always hurts to hear "if only you took less breaks, with your productivity, imagine how much you would achieve", because people who say this don't realize that if I don't take all of those breaks, that amazing productivity goes down the drain too, and you only get slow and poorly done work out of me. I realize it's inconvenient for planning and coordination, but that's how it is, you have to look at my productivity as an average over time. I'm a sprinter, not a marathon runner. Or like a surfer waiting for the next wave of energy and motivation. There can't be waves constantly, by definition they come and go. I NEED that amount of rest to be my best self. Also simply in terms of my happiness and health, because productivity is not everything, damnit.
Very well said. Totally agree. 👍
If it's so affordable could you show how? With how much money you spend on each meal recipe. Maybe cooking challenge series? I'm curious, tried many times, and filed
You can make a lasagne with a tin of lentils, tomatoes etc. Or a simple curry with rice, sauce and kidney beans. So many things. Or pasta with veg or lentils. Tofu stir fry. Quick simple meals that don't cost much at all. Take a look at The Happy Pear on RUclips. They have loads of recipes. Keep it simple would be my advice and then build it up from there.

I had my hair shaved once. This was actually the sign of my self destruct tendencies. I was suffering from deep depression in my late teens, and my parents were totally misunderstanding everything. They were like "if you'd be learning like you should, you'd have no time for being depressed". I wanted to scream, often cried. Once I have painted my hair, face and hands with some leftover enamel paint from painting walls, because I didn't want to go to school (they forced me to go even if I was genuinly sick). I was really in a bad shape and even looking back, I needed to rest. After that I tried to get rid of the paint, but it stayed on my hair. So I had no choice, but to shave it. I couldn't wait my hair to grow back. I wore a wig, but I still felt bad about it, as my natural hair was way thicker, shinier and had nicer color. It also had a natural white strand above my left ear, which I really loved - it looked so cool, like it was from a fantasy movie. I felt stuck for like 1.5 years (my thick hair do not fall down util they're at least 10cm long, and even then they tend to look pulled up; think of an afro, but from straight hair standing upright) looking like I didn't want to look. Now, when I'm a mother and a homemaker, I don't have time for daily combing or such, yet I'd never go even for short hair. I just discovered hairstyles that do not require too much care and look OK. So whenever I need to, I can look really good. I have long, heavy hair, but after learning more about actual haicare, I've learnt how to care for them to save time and especially - money. And as for cutting them - I've been cutting hair myself for like forever. Nowadays there are really good tutorials for various long haistyles. I always cut myself (yes, myself!) by layering. And all I need is just a comb, some water, haiband, good scissors and like 30 minutes - mostly for combing. And I do it only once a year. So in my case shaving a head was not liberating, it was a sign of a sickness.
It’s a very personal choice and your thoughts on head shaving are based on your trauma. Everyone is free to have their hair how they like!
@@thediaryofnow Sure, but what I meant is that it's not empowering or anything positive by default. Hair, especially female hair, has it's own meaning in culture. There are African tribes, where women shave their heads, no exceptions. But in other cultures hair is a sign of feminity, health, prosperity etc. "Every woman should shave at least once" is not a good idea.
@@underwaterdream2870 As I said. Everyone is free to have their hair as they like.
@@thediaryofnow Oh, I've forgotten to mention: in the ancient Greece shaved head was a sign of enslavement. And as for more modern times: shaving head was a common punishment for women, who were dating German Nazi soldiers in occupied Europe. And this was considered a really harsh punishment for a woman. I've also heard about modern times women who were abused, that their oppressors shaved them, even if it made no sense - I mean if you rape somebody, you propably would want them to look appealing to you, but for some reason, they shaved their victims. Propably as a sign of power or something. I don't mean to argue anymore, as you have written, to each their own. I just want to show that shaving female hair has culturally more dark, diminishing meanings, than empowering ones. But I'm also against the demonisation of female baldness. I'd hate to see people making fun of shaved women, whatever the reason. For me it's something like getting a tattoo or jewelry with some symbols: do you know what that means? Are you OK with those meanings? And... is that really you?
@@underwaterdream2870 I am happy with my shaved head. No hidden meaning! Let’s leave it there.
I find it interesting that 100% for us is maybe entirely different than for them. I have this thought that their 100% is our 70%, because usually when neurotypicals give it 'their all' it seems that they're not.
I guess we’ll never truly know as we can’t be inside each others brains! Just have to do our best and take care of ourselves. 🥰
Great idea but how. If you tell your employer you're struggling, you're a problem and employers get rid of problems. NDs are already suffering a higher unemployment rate and if you can string a sentence together, you can forget about PIP or any other benefit. The vast majority of people do not care about ND. I'd love a break but instead I'm running on three hours sleep because of having to deal with other people and their mess ups. No one else will pick that up. I agree about burnout but what do you do when you have no option. You go until you can't and then you crash. I hope your other viewers have better luck but realistically it doesn't happen for most NDs.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. Of course there will be times when things are all consuming but we do have to make attempts to advocate for ourselves. It’s not always easy for sure but if you don’t look after yourself, no one else will. The most important thing is your health. I wish you all the best. 🥰
I think what we also need to remember is we try so hard and to be honest, don't need to, much of the time. No wonder we're exhausted. I've realised this and am putting in less effort at work and it's been fine. The 100% is us pushing ourselves above and beyond cos we've felt criticised or inadequate but mostly no one notices if you can function and do your job just putting in less effort. And you shouldn't be picking up the slack for others!
How do you know what failure is?
I’ve done enough of it!
pffft ive been trying to do that since ive been a child but i can never feel still or calm yet im constantly trying to be calm, but to be fair all i knew about myself growing up was i had adhd and was hyper......parents were to lazy to diagnose me, so im the "reason they drink" or some thing and the goals they set were never achievable for me and they never took the time to help me learn to cope in healthy ways.....hope you get big and help others like me that were just tossed to the side
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. I’m really sorry that you have been through a tough time. I had zero support when I was a kid. It’s only since I’ve had my own child that I recognised that what I went through isn’t the norm. All we can do is try to pick up the pieces and move forward as positively as possible. I just speak honestly about my personal experiences in my videos and of it helps someone else, that’s a real bonus. Take care of yourself.
