Cost of Living in Palmdale vs Santa Clarita
Hey nick just saw your video . We are thinking of moving either to lancaster or palmdale due to a new work opportunity. In need of an apartment for rent that allows a small dog under 25lbs any suggestions? Thinkin of moving by end of june into early july
For those decrying the 'crime rate' in Palmdale: I would like to point out that the crime rate in the AV was significantly higher in the last century, into the turn of this century. Although there is still some crime to be found, it tends to be more localized in areas, instead of quite as widespread as down below in LA proper. Do your research and due diligence when picking a location (like you would anywhere) to make sure that it suits your needs and concerns. Honestly, I would be less concerned with the crime rate than the heat of the summer season, with it's subsequent high utilities usage. This means a darned near mandatory need for the extra expense of solar panels and/or small windmills (where allowed), even in the more urban sections of town.
Think twice before moving there!
East Side Palmdale! Hometown.
I brought 2011 the end of the housing bubble Rancho Vista & 30th west I paid 160k today same houses sale for 545k to 560k... Best move I ever made.
i hope i can move here someday
Hello Nick, are you still in Palmdale?
Anything still left??
Hello, i have a question, If i buy an acre of land what is the current cost to build a two story house with 4 bedrooms and three bathrooms.
It’s a crap hole !!!!! Don’t move there !!!! I would say it was great if I were selling homes too 😂
Interested in your advice planning to buy a home in Palmdale

Fall does exist!!! best time of the year. Mild days and Cool Night or cold night.
Several days cold? Lmfao. Lived there from 159 to 1999. It windy more in the spring dude. The fall is the best time and the wind is a lot less
Don't move here, I assume you it is a crime riddled armpit of southern California. Also there is absolutely nothing to do here
Don't be so dramatic. I live by the Lancaster prison and it's about as dry as the Bayou swaps of Orleans Parish. I work in Reseda Los Angeles so I will take Palmdale for 200 Alex.
@@Eugene-pt5lu ok so if you move to Lancaster, make sure you move to a million dollar two story house that is right next to a supermax prison or else you will have to deal with loads of crime
Just move to the west side. Avoid the east side where the apartments are and section 8 people.
Dont do it my best advice. Crime!
Negative. Look up the numbers

I am considering the move to Palmdale and just yesterday I saw a new development with beautiful homes that are much larger and way better that what I currently own at double the price. At a certain age one need to re-examine what is of most value, a huge yard that I rarely use or larger home that I would enjoy. Thank you for the valuable info
East Palmdale BLOWS.
Google a crime map of Palmdale. It will tell you to stay away from anything east of the 14 freeway.

Tumbleweeds and nasty winds. That is how I remember A.V.
Great presentation
I am moving in Palmdale California
Don't move the crime is bad, LA pretty much sent their section 8 applicants and it slowly became full of crime. This comment might seem bad but its what i saw happen over time and also not blaming all section 8 applicants
Lies lies lies
What about Little Rock ?
Honestly its just the drugs & gangs.
@@ranchoelbamboo4068Littlerock has its fair share of crime...
@@jilliangray9697 yea but not as much. For the most part better than Palmdale and Lancaster r
i’m from palmdale and my best advice is go to Quartz Hill or West Palmdale, East Palmdale is where all the crackheads and “gangs” are.
thoughts on the Amberidge community in West Palmdale?
@@hchernandez03 That should be a good community, it’s just that some people from LA are moving here so there might be some problems. Overall you shouldn’t be around gangs or anything dangerous.
I’m the process of moving into an East Side home next to the 14 freeway 🙏🏻
I was gonna move to Palmdale but then I got high
I was born and raised here. Theres little to nothing to do in the AV so I played videogames all my childhood. I still do, because I still live here. It sucks.
Very good comprehensive look at Palmdale. I take Angeles Forest Hwy to Big Tujunga cyn to get o the East San Fernando Valley. Much better than the 14. Since being up here for almost 5 years I have noticed it is colder longer than it is hotter. I only use my AC units maybe 3 months out of year. I love being close to Tehachapi. One advantage of Palmdale is it is easier to get out of town than from LA. Another advantage are the unique pet food stores like A Better Way Pet store, and PNC. One disadvantage is low access to emergency vet care. You may have to drive to Santa Clarita late at night or on a Sunday. I live in Desert View Highlands which is an old area. I like that right around the corner are stores but then going the other way it is completely rural. I only plan to stay in Palmdale for another 2 years. I wanted to mention that Shogun, the best Japanese restaurant in the AV recently reopened. Their hours are a bit limited and they are totally traditional. No crazy sushi! varieties! Their salmon collar is amazing. They are next to Lee Esthers, a wonderful Creole restaurant. But you probably knew that already!! The Marie Kerr Pool is wonderful to swim at. Three parts of the Pacific Crest Trail are somewhat nearby- the Mill Creek area and then in Lake Hughes.
Thanks. There is a 24 hr emergence vet on Ave M and 10th near the freeway too if you ever need faster care, but I definitely wish there was more options. Ya I saw that Shogun just reopened, I was sad to hear about the owner passing.
@@goasknick9971 They are no longer 24 hours unfortunately
I didn't know that.
@@goasknick9971 Yes the owner of the clinic lost his vet license and it stayed 24 hours for a while but not has limited hours. North Valley is open some nights and 911 Vet closes at 11 pm and is closed on Sundays
Just don’t😭
How’s Little Rock ?
I like Little Rock, it’s own little country world.
I’ve been living up here in Palmdale over 30 something years so I’ll be honest with u it’s great living up here for or family ,because I whited a more easy going life ,every one things it’s cheaper but it’s not ,,,,home out here cost over 500,000 thousands or more ok with the new high interest-rate be very careful
Nothing beats living in a shit hole like Palmdale, CA!
SO FUNNY. LIVED IN THE A.V. FOR 50 YEARS... WONDERFUL PLACE TO LIVE. THAT SEWER DOWN BELOW IS THE TRUE CRAPOLA. THE SEWER IS FULL AND STARTING TO RISE TO THE HIGH DESERT. NOW A ROSAMONITE AND THE CRAPOLA IN NOW SEEPING ALONG HWY 14 TO THIS AREA. 20 YEARS FROM NOW WE'LL NO DOUBT BE SEEING TENTS ON OUR SIDEWALKS TOO. SO SAD.
Theres an extreme lack of employment and little to no competitive wages. Anyone who purchases a home in Palmdale should look forward to 2 to 2 1/2 hour commutes (when there are no accidents). Better get a hybrid.
And only $3,800.00 a month. Well sign me up for that.
I think it will be more than that.
I can get double that in kansas for half that
I bet. But compared to Los Angeles (an hour a way) this is a bargain.
@@goasknick9971 plus the taxes I’d be paying in California would be half my paycheck so still not worth it especially since everybody’s moving out of California there would be no return on investment
Where is. The AV ???
Antelope Valley, Ca. Maybe.
This home is in Lancaster Ca
@@goasknick9971 Grew up in Rosamond. You could have bought the town for that in 1956.
@@larrysorenson4789 right! Now everything is so expensive. I used to rent a place in Encino that the landlord bought in the 60's for $68,000, now it's almost a million dollar property for less than 1,000 sqft.
give your shiny head a slap that is a garbage place
I currently live in Palmdale on the east side. I mistakenly left my front screen door and main door opened for two weeks while on a business trip. When I came back to Palmdale to my house, thankfully, nothing was touched! My house was safe from robbers and I live alone. Palmdale in 2010, my house cost $105,000.00. As of Nov 2022, the same house cost approximately $433,000.00 and up in my area for 3 BR 2 Bath., 2 car garage. There’s dinning, some entertainment, and a few things for kids in Palmdale/Lancaster. Santa Clarita is only a 30 minute drive w more robust activities.
Don't do it, saved you 6 minutes
The speed limits here are 60mph* every minute you’ll move 1 mile! The slogan here is Palmdale cares… they should include that they only care about money. False money that gets printed every day and isn’t even backed by gold or silver. This place is a death trap
I’d rather live in a cardboard box in Oxnard or Ventura 😅😂😅😂😅
If you are looking for a cardboard box in Ventura I can probably help you find a good deal under $750,000 if you want.
@@goasknick9971 🤣 hahahaha U got me bro !
Why would anybody wanna live in Palmdale?
Grew up there and couldn’t wait to get out (left in the 90’s). My grandparents moved there after WW2 when it was a small working class town for aerospace and Edwards Air Force base. All of my family has left now because of crime and not wanting to have to deal with homeless person shit in their yards. Went back for a visit last year after not seeing it for 10 plus years. I was very sad at what the town has become.
Block the sun ? Lmao😅
See my comment under your Lancaster post about these homes.... Pacific homes are nice but start at 683,000 for a one story. What say you? A few lines were lined through and I don't why.
IDK why some were crossed out, that was weird. I replied on the other comment too.
Hi Nick, I live in the Desert View Highlands area of Palmdale in a 1955 Wonder Years home and went around the corner today to the new Pacific Encore homes, attracted by the "No HOA sign." Turns out the most basic 1 story house STARTS at 683,000 dollars. I think current rates are somewhere between 5.5 -6.1 percent. Let me try to break this down. While there were certain special programs like no down, or B of A gifting 15,000 dollars and of course special VA and Hero programs I still don't see how any single person could afford these homes who would want to live in Palmdale. We have had 3 murders on the west side in the past month- two in Marie Kerr park and one near the Country Club. Look the homes look wonderful. I'm not saying they aren't great homes. This would take generally a two income or more-household. Putting in the amount in the Bankrate mortgage calculator, even with a 20% down payment of 136,000 dollars the payment including property taxes would be about 3870 /month. Obviously if they only put down 3% the payment would be astronomical. I'm not sure who will be buying these homes but I don't see any other option than a massive price drop in a few months. So- who has 136,000 who wants to live in Palmdale? I could see two professional people who have saved a lot who might take home 5000 a month net but they would have to have that huge down payment. When I bought my house in Palmdale for a ridiculous 255,000 dollars my income had to show over 100,000 dollars and I did that by working multiple jobs for two years and used the Cal HFA program which I didn't see mentioned in the Pacific Brochures. What say you Nick? What do you see happening in the next few months to a year?
I'm not exactly sure who is buying the new homes in Pacific Encore but I suspect it is a combination of professional people, people upgrading their home and are using their previous home's equity, and maybe out of area people moving to the area. Home prices are starting to come down. In May homes were selling for 102% of list price, right now they are selling for 97% list price. As you know, the high rates have reduced people budgets and home prices are starting to adjust to that. I think this trend is going to continue for probably the next 6 months with prices continuing to drop. I don't think there will be a huge price drop but instead a gradual decrease.
@@goasknick9971 I agree but when these homes were first advertised there was a sign up that said they started in the "low 500,000's" and now the starting price is 683,000 bucks. I guess lack of inventory and the fact that people who make more money are moving into CA while the working class are moving out explains your prediction
@@fremontpathfinder8463 It was probably planned to be at the low 500,000 but then with what happened in the last 2 years everything went up. The thing is, people are buying them at this price. Like at Joshua Ranch across the street, they sold out fast the first time around.
