    OMG, you are a total sanity saver!! I have just started fooling around with Siril and StarNet, wanting to stack and improve raw images on my own from our Dwarf II. I don’t have a Windows PC, just a fairly old MacBook Pro. I was going nuts over being denied executable permissions by the OS. think you literally kept me from banging my head on the table in frustration. Your instructions were awesome. I have never worked with Terminal in Mac OS before and this was easy to understand and follow. I could not believe it when the script actually ran and I could plug it into Siril. Thank you a thousand times over.

    I have one of these on each of my scopes. It’s nice to not have to go out in the cold or get bit up by bugs during the summer just to refocus. The only downside for me is that it takes too long. I can go out and refocus in under 90 seconds manually but other than that I have no complaints.

    Why would I want to switch from Astrobin? I think having a mobile app for just phone use is a BAD idea. Cell phone screens are about the worst way to share high quality images. The screen is to small! ! Sharing a wonderful celestial image on a phone is about as dumb as watching a wonderful movie on a cell phone.

    • @WVAA304
      @WVAA304 Месяц назад

      To each their own bud, but as Tom says clearly in the video, he's working on proper desktop version, as well as tablet version, so No one said anything about phone only... but it's all a plus in my book. Why limit yourself to just a computer?? What Tom has done is created a way to view the high res images on a phone. And it's more so about forming a community/platform to share, boost and communicate directly with other astrophotographers. Reward others rather than just chasing likes and follows, but as i said, to each their own bud. 👍

    • @WVAA304
      @WVAA304 Месяц назад

      Tom spent 2 years asking astrophotographers what they wanted bro, and 95% wanted a mobile app.

    • @Aztronoob
      @Aztronoob Месяц назад

      Hey, great question. 95% of users who visit the Picastro website do so from a mobile phone and around 50% of users already use Astrobin and say the Picastro App is much easier and smoother to use compared to Astrobin. Picastro is much easier to use for all levels of AP and your images are protected so no one can steal them. Give it a go using the discount code. Any other questions, let me know.

    • @Aztronoob
      @Aztronoob Месяц назад

      @@WVAA304 Totally agree. Picastro is much more of a social platform and users compare it more to a social media platform than a repository for storing images. The people on Picastro love the fact it it’s mobile app and as above states, there is a tablet version coming soon.

      You will always need a way to check the polar time, so I'm not getting why your upset about it? It takes like 2 seconds to check the polar clock. You can print out the times beforehand as well, so you can use them instead of smartphone, but you will still need to check a paper to see, so 🤷‍♂️

    • @WVAA304
      @WVAA304 4 месяца назад

      There might be an 800 # you can call too get the exact polar time for your latitude, but again, using a phone to do that as well, so yeah... you have to have a way to check the polar time so you can get an accurate PA

    • @EvenTheDogAgrees
      @EvenTheDogAgrees 4 месяца назад

      @@WVAA304 "Upset" is a bit strong. "Frustrated with how hard it seems to find this info, after hours of trying" is a more accurate representation of my mental state. I'm pretty sure people were peering through telescopes on equatorial mounts long before we had smartphones. And I want to know how _they_ did it. I don't think that's an unreasonable desire, nor something to be mocked. The reason I want to know is because I don't like following instructions without understanding the mechanism behind it. I want to know how to cook, not how to follow a recipe that tells me exactly which ingredients to add at precisely which time, without understanding what I'm doing. If I know how it works, I can do the math and go through the operations without relying on an app. This means I don't need to worry about running out of phone battery, and I won't ruin my night vision by looking at the bright screen of my phone. If doing the math requires pen and paper, I can do it under red light, which better preserves my night vision. I don't think "it's easier" is a good argument for using an app. It's also easier to simply look at Hubble images on my computer. They'll be more detailed, and I won't have to freeze my arse off under the cold winter skies. Yet, both of us put in the time and effort to take our own lights and calibration frames, stack and post-process them. If convenience was the driving factor, we wouldn't bother, would we?

    • @davidbillo
      @davidbillo 2 месяца назад

      The SynScan handset for the Skywatcher mount in the video will give you the hour angle of polaris, but you do have to input your location LAT and LONG, your time zone, and the exact time of day. On the other hand, a phone app can get your GPS location and exact time from your phone.
