This all makes sense. I spent months finding a one owner M2C with 7,770 miles. I have absolutely zero mod plans, and one simple goal - enjoy the car when I choose (it isn't my daily) and keep it as long as possible. I think these cars, especially in hockenheim silver, are absolutely stunning to look at. They are awesome to drive out the box, and I think they will be a classic eventually. The F87 was an absolute masterstroke by BMW. The G87 to me may as well be a Ford Mustang, at least, on the outside. In fact, when I was in the dealership doing the paperwork for the F87 (which took a good hour) I was sat literally 2 yards from a brand new G87 and I hardly looked at it. But with the F87, I can't look at that car enough. It is pure eye candy ❤

I was actually looking into a $54,000 2020 M2 Competition a few weeks ago and Carvana quoted me for a 9.4% APR with a 780 credit score. I'm not putting any money down. I always finance through Wings Financial. I've financed my 2015 Lexus RCF from them back in 2020 for 5.9% with 0 down at 72 months. Financed 52k, sold it back on March 2024. Made money to down for the next car.

You do in fact not pay taxes when you borrow from your 401k or stocks as long as you pay it back on time. That is tax exempt. Just like a bank loan isn't income, neither is a loan from yourself.

Congrats on the new ride. Refinancing is your friend. Unless you just feel good about paying higher interest, just refinance the vehicle. Doesn't matter if you are paying it off in two years or four. Your rate should have been almost half of what it is currently. Deciding to be willfully ignorant is different than being completely oblivious. All the best to you.

Glad you are paying it off in 2 years. Yes, financially, it's not optimal to be taking a loan out on anything above current US Treasury rates; certainly something I wouldn't do myself. But you are right, it's not my money.

I have pretty much the same car as this - same colour, unmodified, one previous owner, Jan 2020 with 7,770 miles when I bought it 2 months ago. I just did the UK pounds to dollars conversion and came out a bit lower at $48k. Took quite a while to find it. Very very pleased with it, and wanted that exact car for the same reasons - I wanted something a bit unique, desirable, powerful, engaging - and it is all these things and more. After I first test drove it, I remember saying to friends afterwards that everybody should experience a car like that - beg, steel, borrow - just do it because it's worth it! If it had wings it would be a fighter jet I'm sure. I was in a position to put 50% down, and then financed the other half at 4.65% for 4 years, but same as you, I'm aiming to pay it off early. The only reason I didn't buy it in full is because my investments (US S&P + Tech stocks) are absolutely flying at the moment and I didn't want to sell them. Getting back to the car - I needed a toy in my life! I'm probably about your age - well, maybe a little older, but I wanted to experience this car while I'm still just about young enough to enjoy it, and old enough to afford it. It was now, or never.

The BMW is a great choice, you’re right on all the points you made. The gt350 is a fuckboi MAGNET! You cant take it anywhere and to have fun in it you HAVE to be a jackass on the street or take it to the track there is no middle ground.(I only take my gt350 out now after dark and even still EVERY single time someone tries to race me within 5 minutes on hitting a main road, it gets annoying and if you get on it a little its so loud everyone thinks you’re TRYING to race and tries to race you anyways) The new BMW’s are faster in 98% of situations on the street, they get out of a hole from a dig faster, and will mollywhop the gt350 from a roll as well. If youre looking to drive a nice car more often without the social headaches BMW is definitely the way to go. The BMW M cars It’s a genuine street champion. Great choice, a few mods and youre in serious hyper car 911 speeds territory with little drawbacks

I am going through this process right now, and did end up buy brand new as I don't want to trial and error with rebuilds I have another project I want to get to so I paid 12k for the brand new transmission shipped from Germany and was on back order and going to be 15k with the install

Okay, so what you need to do is find a good independent VW/Audi mechanic. There are a ton of these transmissions around now. Also, I had a “gearbox malfunction” message and I DID fix the mechatronic issue and it fixed the problem. Sounds like this shop may be trying to take you for a ride.
