Do Stickhandling or Shooting Curves Really Exist, and if so Which is Better?
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.14 дней назад
Today I am talking about what qualifies a curve as a stickhandlers or shooters curve as well as which type of curve I think is better. the sticks I used in todays video were both 85 flex, the stickhandling curve was the pro Kovalev curve and the shooters curve was the Ovechkin pro curve which can be found here - prostockhockeysticks.com/ or www.hockeystickman.ca/collections/senior-blackout-stic...
Using the Fastest Growing Curve in Hockey (and why you should too)

In todays video we'll be taking a look at the fastest growing curve in the NHL... the Zegras curve. it is a perfect blend between the p28 and p92, which in my opinion makes it the perfect curve. #nhl #hockey #hockeystick #sports #viralvideo #hockeycanada

Finding the Best Stick Under $200 Ep. 1- STX Stallion HPR 2
The shots off the extra lite definitely looked better than the pro blackout. The pro hossa is deadly. Did you find the custom flex to feel softer than the other two that are the same flex rating? Also, you guys gonna get the pro hossa in 70?
Is the Kovalev you're using here the PRO272 pattern?
the only issue i have of this. is you were rating all 3 like they were just different levels of the same stick from the same company.... the first 2 are made a different way from the 3rd, cause its from different manufactuers and different companies. prostock hockey sticks has some non customs you could get too. but its like comparing an ft7 and ft7 pro, and a tracer as if they were all the same line of sticks. other than that, was a great review. just need a seperate video for pro stock hockey sticks. unless you do a video specifically versus-ing the 2 brands.
i guess to calrify as well. im not a fan of hockeystickmans sticks. they feel as cheap as they cost, and just are okay sticks at best. where as PRO sticks feel higher quality than the price you pay, on top of all the customizations as well.
I agree with the prostockhockeysticks quality being higher, I’ve featured his sticks on my channel before and I love them- my dad even uses them as his game sticks lol. The reason why I chose to format the video the way I did was more a showcase style while also giving my thoughts as to what was worth the money considering they’re all within $40 of eachother. They are 2 separate brands but are advertised as the same so figured I might as well showcase it as the general consumer would see it!
@StickTalk8 ahhhh i see. That's not a terrible way to format the video tbh, maybe just needed to talk on the fact that it's a different brand a lil more than the quick mention you gave it. Also you didn't link the pro stick in description, but it says you can buy all these sticks at the link below... and u can't get the pro on hockey stick man Don't wanna beat ya down either, i mean for all of this to be constructive feed back. U do good, and i wanna see ya grow and get better
You can get the same model pro I used on the hockeystickman website- they sell his sticks as their own, they’re the custom blackout and I absolutely appreciate the constructive feedback, I’m definitely still learning so it really helps!
@StickTalk8 :o i stand corrected then! I was unaware of that!
keep killin' it brotha the world needs more people to review this shit before we drop $100+
Thanks man I appreciate it and ya I hope to become that guy!
i want you to succeed. no music. and mic a little louder.
Next one should be the best then.
grats on passing the 500 bud!
Thanks I appreciate it- checked out your channel, what’s the best way to get in to warhammer?
Love this guy
What about the blackout value?
Don't waste your time
Ya I’m right there with you, didn’t really think it was worth my money
My 17 yr old got the pro custom blackout in hossa curve 75 flex and found WAY to wipey. Not sure what flex you used but curious if you found it to wipey and needed the 85 flex? Also is the pro custom a low kick stick? Thanks
I’m using an 85 in the video! If he finds the 75 too whippy definitely give the 85 a shot and yes it’s a low kick stick!
I ordered a 75 flex extra lite about a year ago and had to return it bc it felt super stiff like 85. So weird you experienced different. Maybe bc the custom is made by pshs and it's a different manufacturer
Great video, I think you should have me out to play goalie? Would be awesome content.
Lol no thanks I don’t want you to get hurt, who knows maybe I buy you a set of goalie gear for Christmas lol
Congrats on getting over 500 subs! On to 1K!
Thank you! I’m going to keep working towards it!

Thanks man I appreciate it!
Leafs blow but love the content dude keep it up 🔥💯
I’m a fan by default lol but the gloves are from Colorado! Thanks man I appreciate it!
Shots were coming off way hotter with the custom 😂. I had a buddy that bought a blackout and the weight and balance wasn’t tooooo bad, but the blade feel was not it at all.
I agree with that, the weight balancing isn’t too bad but the weight difference between the 2 isn’t noticeable in hand to be honest, the custom is the better stick of the 3 for sure tho
@@StickTalk8 also, I just bought a Denis Malgin pro stock stock from hockey stock man. Looks like it has a Brayden Point pro curve on it which I’ve been wanting to try. Completely flat blade with no rocker. What are your thoughts on rocker vs no rocker on blades?
I pass by those sticks every day at work and wish they were bigger so I could give one a try lol- honestly I don’t notice too much when I’m out there, would make an interesting video
Are these curves actually available anyway? P28 for me. Used to use a 92, but I like the way my backhand comes off a 28.
These curves are available, admittedly I did try and find the most extreme examples of both I could find so they’d be a bit more difficult to find at the retail level
Coming from a 100 flex zbubble to this is amazing, I wish I had this nexus stick in high school 😂
Lol I bet it made a crazy difference! It’s really cool to see how far sticks have come in the last 20 or so years!
@ so much more puck feel and control now! I’ve never had great hands but this stick is definitely helping me out 😂.
Does hockey stick man make that curve in the black out series of sticks? I can’t seem to find it
We have it on the pro blackout custom but you can also get it straight from prostockhockeysticks.com
no background music please
Checkout the last 2 vids!
@@StickTalk8 can you do a snap shot tutorial video?
I have one posted!
i think it would be pretty cool if retail curves also came in different lies. so a p92 in lie4,5,6,
It’s such a great idea I just don’t think the cost makes sense for most companies unfortunately
I have a lot of different curves including the kovalev, but the Lidstrom heel curve blade is my go to all time favorite
I’ve been meaning to try a heel curve, should I try the p91 or the Lidstrom
test Warrior W43 the Laine and Palola curve.
I’ve really wanted to try it but not sure if I could make a full video on it
It's gold for the one t's, but lacking for snapshots compared to the p28
Personally I like it all around better than the p28 but I get how that pocket at the toe could feel better for snapshots for sure
I recently reverted to a p91A. I just find it good all around for me. I like the straightness of the blade. Passing. In tight, top shelf. Wristers. Back handers. I feel i see the puck and stick better with my head up. Unfortunately, I'm pretty much stuck to no name sticks if I want a p91 curve. Not too popular anymore.
That’s fair and yes you’re more likely to find a unicorn then a new model stick with a p91 - what hand do you shoot?
@@StickTalk8 right hander 🤗
Surprisingly enough hockeystickman should have some ft7s with a p91
I’ve tried a TON of curves and one of my faves was a modified W71 warrior pro stock, it’s a super high lie, super deep pocket mid curve. Great for cradling the puck and surprisingly good backhands. It’s not an open or wedge like curve so shots are still consistent and easy to aim with. I don’t use it as much anymore cuz it’s an older model alpha dx and isn’t as light as some of my newer sticks but if I could get that exact twig in a lighter stick I’d be a happy happy man.
I know exactly the curve you’re talking about but have never had the chance to try one! What hand do you shoot cause I know where you could find some lefties
@@StickTalk8 ahh I’m a righty! :( I saw some righties at pro stock hockey but they are in the states and the shipping to Canada is just too much.
Ah damn, your best bet might be to get some from Gepetto over at prostockhockeysticks
@@StickTalk8 most likely, I just saw the new and improved twigs on his insta! Can’t wait to grab one.
I’m really excited for that launch- I’m looking to make a video on the whole lineup
Funny question that being this a stick video, What hollow do you get on your skates? or how do you have them sharpened? when you glide and turn your skates in your videos you don't seem to make a really hard biting sound like mine do. I have been messing around a bit with it. I think we are similar in size so just curious what your spec is. Great Videos!
I skate on a 5/8 and I’m not sure what profile I’m on though and thank you!
stick talk - future great vid finny keep em coming
Would use the song in my vids but would def get copyrighted lol
great video!
Thank you!
Try to find the David Krecji Curve. It's a P29 heel, that turns into a P28 halfway up, with a kinked square toe. MASSIVE fish hook. Gepetto makes one. TBH actually the best curve I have owned for both stickhandling and shooting.
The closest thing that I have to that rn is the jagr and I love it, maybe on his next drop I’ll buy one!
Good vid. Lighting or camera or something looked much better. Keep ‘em coming.
Thanks! I’ve got a few coming down the pipeline over the next few weeks!
I'm boring as shit and just rock a P88. I feel like it's just solid for doing everything. Even though I have absolutely ZERO hands and should probably just look into getting a shooters curve....but I probably won't cause I'm scared of change and only like fuckin missionary
This is definitely one of the funniest comments I’ve gotten lol, I think if you want to break free from the missionary lifestyle but stay pretty tame still give the pro mackinnon a try, it’s like a stick guys p88. Same blade shape as a p88 but with a moderate toe curve!
C'mon, take a chance on doggy and a toe curve next Saturday night!
Toe curves are the wave
I'd say some of those toe curves can be great for stick handling and can fire lasers but they lose the consistency of a flatter blade. Interested to see your Drai video coming up. Probably be my next buy once Gepetto gets his stuff out
I think as long as the curve has a flattish heel area then it should be ok for stickhandling and absolutely you miss out on some of that consistency, would you rather see a video on the pro blackout line or drai’s stick next?
@StickTalk8 Drai for sure, love seeing videos on curves most people don't use. Since Gepetto isn't doing the videos anymore it'd be great to get other folks opinions on different curves and stick builds
I’d love to get to trying them all but it would be quite the expensive series lol
Thanks man, these are really helpful. Not sure if you're already doing this, but could you say or write in the description what curve and flex you're using? You might already be doing it but I just missed it in some, but I figured I'd ask so as I'm watching I can get a feel for what the snap and release looks like on that flex, curve, etc. Thanks!
I appreciate the kind words and typically I’m using an 85 flex unless I say otherwise in the video but curves I kinda bounce around so I’ll make a note to myself to start mentioning it at the beginning of my videos! Typically I’m using a p92, p28 or a p90t though
Great thanks man! Sorry I replied a second ago with my other google/YT profile. That’s helpful. I’ve been trying out different flexes, curves, lies and kick points (budget permitting) so I appreciate any extra info you share 👍🏻 keep up the videos man, it helps a lot for a beer leaguer like myself
No worries, I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos!
Keep going buddy
Thanks! Should have videos coming out more consistently now
Have you used the Laine curve? If you have how would you compare it to the zegras?
I haven’t used the laine curve yet but funnily enough my dad has used both those curves so I asked him what he thought, and he said that overall the zegras is a better curve as it doesn’t have any shortcomings, but on the laine he enjoys shooting with it more but finds it harder to handle the puck. Hopefully that helps!
Appreciate it man yea I was just curious because I’ve always used a p92 but Ive tried out the laine and really liked it just can’t get it on the retail top end sticks so I always go back to the p92 the zegras curve looks so sick though you were ripping bombs
Thanks man! It’s very hard to find these curves from brands like Bauer or ccm unfortunately but still a fun curve to use nonetheless
I can't use a nasty toe curve--I launch shots too high. I could see how it would be great for toe drags. I use a P88.
I’ve been using a hook for almost my whole career so I don’t really know anything different but I feel the same way about using a p88- feels like a can’t really shoot with it lol
2 months since last one I’ve, musta been a while the time before that
Not on the ice a whole ton no, been around 5 years since I’ve played a real game of hockey
I’m a left wing or center, I just bought the nexus tracer, I went for the p92 but I usually get the p28 because I am a forward, I’m thinking about switching to a p28 or should I stick with 92 since it is kinda consistent and p28 is pretty 😢
Whichever one you perform better with I’d say to stick with, but if you want a mix of them both check out my most recent video!
Just ordered one of these curves not knowing a damn thing about it. Really excited to give it a go.
It’s super fun to use, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!
@@StickTalk8 yeah it was the only curve in the flex and model I was looking for and I found some pics and figured what the hell why not give it a try. Now I just need to be patient and hang tight for it to arrive :-)
Let me know how you like it!
@@StickTalk8 ironically, I ordered it from your work apparently. Hoping it makes it in the mail tomorrow.
Lol hopefully!
I just switched back to the p29 (Sakic) curve last season after using a p28 for the last 5 years or so. I miss the toe from the p28 but love the rest of the blade on the p29! Im definitely down to try this curve asap!
It’s like the perfect curve for your situation!
Switched to the CCM Ghost + Zegras.....only reason he hit 69! (also, p29 is basically the same curve as the p92)
I just switched to a nick Jensen stick which is a lie 4 p29, are there any lie 4 options at hockey stick man
We definitely do have some but we don’t list the lie on the sticks so you could bring the stick in that you have now to compare!
Hockey blades aren’t flat. Modern blades are curved. They have a dynamic lie depending on how you’re holding the stick.
There are still a select few that you can get your hands on without a rocker but they are definitely a dying breed
@@StickTalk8 I’m unfortunately in Tennessee where we don’t have a ton of hockey shops that offer the prostock option. My next question is are the pro blackout sticks customizable
@@jlo2o199 if you get something that’s a lie 4 and is close to a p29 curve it is almost 100 percent flat on the ice
Certainly will watch your games
Hopefully the guys I play with don’t mind!
Jojo music caught me offguard. I like it Considering ordering a pro blackout with this curve now👍
Just watched it for the first time pretty recently so I thought I’d use it! I think the curve is worth a try!
I heard a very popular Maple Leaf has switched over to the zegras curve early last season. Had a few goals with it and eeked out the rocket richard award.
He did alright with it lol and Reilly switched to it this year as well
Was hoping you had a snapshot tutorial after I came across your zegras curve video. Just started playing hockey for about 2 years now and been looking for something like this. Great channel!
Thank you I really appreciate it and I hope your learning journey treats you well, don’t get discouraged if it feels like it’s taking you awhile- hockey is the hardest sport to learn!
@@StickTalk8 Well said! Thank you! And looking forward to more videos!
do they sell these at retail stores now or where can i get one
You can get them from any store that sells pro stock gear- like hockeystickman, prostockhockey.com or sidelineswap or you could also purchase them from prostockhockeysticks.com!
You work at hsm in Toronto?
At the other location!
That’s dope your working with hockey stick man congrats! I commented on another video I just got the pro Laine curve from Geppetto and so far I’m liking it
My dad had one and said he loved shooting with it, it looks like a pretty sick curve
big finny, great vid
Thanks man I appreciate it, hopefully we can get some games in soon
