Installing Kayak Flush Mount Rod Holders
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.Год назад
I install two flush mount rod holders in my new kayak. The Pescador pilot hull is equipped with 4 spaces designed for after-market rod holders but are totally useless if you choose not to use them so I decided to put in rod holders myself. I store bait cast rods on my starboard side and spinning rods on my port side. www.amazon.com/Anndason-Plastic-Fishing-Holders-Accessory/dp/B072LVB4VL/ref=sr...

Outstanding video man! This place is on my bucket list.
Big fish and fresh
Very nice content
Love the kayak setup 🙌
Thanks, man! It makes me look like I catch fish!!
🔥
Beam!! Thanks for watching.
How have the mounting screws work out so far? Any issues? Would you do anything different?
Thanks for sharing! Any recommendations on mods to help in shallow water or easy ways you've found to clear the clutter around the prop?
I just love grubs. Some of the things I like about them are, they work on pretty much every species of fish, you can fish it in almost every way, lots of people don’t throw them so fish are typically not used to seeing them. And they are usually pretty dang cheap.
Love this, my family has been coming to the harbor beside goose bay for over 25 years
The issue with that kayak is the rudder it needs a fatter one.
Question you said it’s got like 40ft of line that’s awesome I don’t wanna sound like a novice but let’s says your in 5-8ft of water when you deploy the anchor and it hits the bottom will it continue to let line out and like backlash inside the hub or does it stop letting line and kind of lock in place until you crank it back up? Hope I make sense thanks
Thank you for that install demo of the rod holder! I didn't realize that mounting nut could be revealed by pulling the lever OUT (versus pushing it in to allow it to rotate). Much appreciated!
This is the exact same rudder and steerer as the wilderness systems recon. I be the pedal drive is the same too
Great video bro! This is just what I had been looking for. Thanks man!
That’s an awesome idea for the steering cables Will. Can definitely tell a difference. Getting ready to run the rudder deployment cables inside the kayak like you did. Was wondering did you use one or two cables for the rudder deployment? I was thinking using two cables might be easier installing. Im new at this so any comments would be appreciated
You should always mouse your shackle. I know you think you do not need to. Murphy's law awaits.
What is “mousing” your anchor?
@montycraig5659 it's a wire tie on the shackle so the shackle bolt doesn't back out.
I feel like the riser is over engineered
Do you think 3/4 is strong enough for the cart? I have a bunch on hand but no 1inch
Hey Will, love your mod used it. I also did a mod myself that really makes steering better. You can thread the end 1/4-20 add a washer and it is super stable. I will post video.
I mentioned this in the unboxing video, but it looks like you still don't have the rudder installed correctly. The rudder assembly should be flush with the body of the kayak....this is a step many people miss...you have to turn the rudder FULL right and push down...this allows the assembly to drop down into its locked position. It looks like yours is still raised up a little so it not secured in place.
First of all, in what you showed in the video, you do not have the rudder installed properly. You have to turn it to the extreme right position so the pin will drop all the way down...the rudder assembly should be totally flush with the body of kayak - no gap. I Have owned the Pilot for several years and LOVE it...beast of a kayak. It is fast, maneuverable, tracks really well, handles rough weather, and is super stable. The negatives have been mentioned...the rod holders are ridiculous, but there are some great DIY fixes...also the rudder deployment is pretty sketchy.
Is that steering knob a mod or did it come from the factory like that? I have a Pescador 12.0 and mine looks different.
You know what you're talking about.
I like it, I’ll look it up on pricing, thank you! Good video!
I have a 12t and upgraded to a pilot 12, too! 😂. Thanks for some good ideas!
Dude, don't kiss fish. That's the stupidest thing I've ever seen.
Awesome mods. Been using the pilot for about 2 years now with those steering and rudder issues and love these mods.
Congratulations on your new kayak. I bought mine about 4 years ago in Sunburst. Didn't know anyone had a channel using this type of kayak. Really liked your ideas, planning to do some soon. Right now I'm in the process of installing a trolling motor with PWM set-up, all DIY of course. Lots of ideas on RUclips. Also just Subscribed to your channel, looking forward to what you come up next. Chino here in Austin, Texas.
That rig couldn't look better ! Yep... I just got the Pflueger Supreme 35x yesterday.... a LOT smaller than I thought it would be ( 185 yds 8 lb mono) Looks like a 1500 in Daiwa size. Fantastic reel.... however.
Haven't used Braid since I experienced how EASY it "breaks" on rocks ! 65 lb was breaking once while catfishing... could not figure it out.... then I said hmmmmm took a piece of it... and rubbed on the rocks in this exact spot... broke like 4 lb mono ! I also don't like that way it's noisy on rods/guides.
Still happy with that placement?
Another good trip. Hard to beat that one!!!!
Im looking for a peddle kayak, what do you recommend?
Best rudder deployment mod I've seen yet. Had my pilot new since 18 and finally had issues with my rudder deployment last week. Will be doing this soon!
I’m glad you liked the mod! It definitely makes it a ton smoother. 🛶🛶 🎣🎣
Nice video man! Was looking into buying one
I can’t recommend it enough. Really changes the game.🎣🛶
I want to get one of these, but I'm not sure whether it's better to mount on the back or the front of the kayak.. Do you have any insight or tips you could share?
That’s a really good question. The reason that people mount on the front of the boat is if you fish in a lot of current. You’ll be able to cast upstream and work your bait with the current which is the direction that stream/river fish are used to seeing it come. I do fish rivers and streams but I probably spend more time on lakes. Honestly, I don’t think there’s a wrong way to mount it. It’ll work great regardless. 🎣🎣🎣
@@willdernesscalling Thanks. I'm looking forward to getting one.
Question will it work on a 5 pound mushroom anchor thank you
Yes it will! My claw anchor is 3 lbs and I pull it up easily.
I have a Pescador Pilot, did you just remove the rudder deployment cable? If so, did you install something else in it's place? Thanks for the video.
I did remove the stock deployment cable. I used rubber coated steel cable in its place.
Another quality video, really enjoy your knowledge and enthusiasm.
I really appreciate it!! I’ll keep ‘em coming 🎣🎣 Thanks for watching.
“Tge future started yesterday “
How you like that pilot man dude ? I’m about to start a channel soon man . Like your content and I’m grabbing that same kayak tmrw Trading my two paddle yaks for this one Super stoked
Nice bro
Thanks for watching! 🎣
Nice I’m trading my two sit in tops tmrw for this exact one
You won’t be disappointed!! 🛶
Love the rudder mod! I had to ask some bass guys today to put it down for me because I forgot before I left the ramp😂 mine is so tight I can't pull it at all!
🤣 Been there!!
what length was the rudder bolt? @@willdernesscalling
@@amyfreeze9772 I don’t remember. And I’m not at home. But I’ll find out later today.
@@amyfreeze9772 1.5 inch carriage bolt.
Built my own pvc kayak cart as well with extra 2" pipe that i had. Seat riser was a nice touch. Well done 👏👍🎣
Watched your video over and again to solve the same issue on my pescador. Best video out there. Very specific and informative. Thank you for this! Liked and subscribed! Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much. Means a lot!
Really helpful video. I am gonna do same modifications to my yak.
Glad you found it inspiring!! 🛶🎣
