Well, Easter weekend is upon us but the weather has not been great recently. Still I need to try out my camping equipment so decided to go for a 2 day ride with my Honda NX500. So I took it out for a ride along the Trans European Trail in Kent and Sussex and ended up wrestling in the mud and dropping it a few times. Love the T100 low rumble. Also, as I think nobody's mentioning it, RE 650, even though more than 10kg lighter than T100 actually feels heavier. It's got higher ground clearance and the centre of gravity is noticeable higher. It's also higher and has shorter wheelbase, making it look less appealing to me at least.

    I have a NC750x which I found to be a great improvement on the BMW F650s I have ridden for years. I have taken a NX500 out on a test ride during which I managed city countryside twisties and motorway speeds on a 6 mile by pass.. I loved it and am selling my other bikes to get one of these.

    I've been shopping around for my first bike as well. love the look of Moto Guzzi, but I sat on one, moved it from side-to-side, and felt the same thing you described where it feels heavy whenever it leans over a little bit. I'd like to test ride one, but that might be more of a future test ride for me for a second bike since I personally didn't feel comfortable with it.

    I agree with you that the front end of the 2019-2023 CB500x looks nicer, more slick. Despite deposit & PCP payments being very close I went for a used 2021 as I don't really like the square boxy front of the NX. I have just added a Chigee Play that gives phone mirroring via carplay or android auto and it fits really well onto the bar above the dash display.

    I had a Honda CB500F and I traded it on the Guzzi. The Honda is more nimble, slicker shifting, easier to bend around a tight bend and feels more responsive. It feels modern, which it is. The Guzzi is much more stable at speed. It feels slightly awkward at low speeds and can take more effort to maneuver. It feels like an older style of bike, which it also is. However on a 320km highway ride; the Guzzi rolls down the highway in a comfortable effortless fashion that the Honda can't match. At highway speeds the Honda requires more concentration to ride. It's not that the Honda isn't good on the highway; it feels great and I really enjoyed my 300km ride, but after that 300km I felt tired (I'm old). The ride home on the Guzzi was much more comfortable, the seat is vastly better and I wasn't even slightly fatigued. It's a more relaxed cruiser and that stability greatly reduced fatigue when long distance cruising. It did take some time to adjust to the difference; but once I did I was thrilled. However, I've been riding a long time so I can really appreciate an older design of bike that has been perfected. One is not better than the other. They're just different. It's what speaks to you that is important.

    Interesting opinion. I've had a Sportster 883 since 2012 and I'm thinking of changing it. I've tested the Nightster 975, Transalp 750, Bonneville T100, Indian Scout, Tenere 700, KTM 790 Adventure, and the Guzzi 850. Of all of them, the Guzzi was the one I liked the most, and despite having 'only' 65 horsepower and less torque than the others, it felt like it pushed just as hard or even more than some of them. I loved it. At the moment, I'm convinced it will be my next bike, God willing.

Beautiful on the outside,but poor in the inside...I am very disappointed!!! Maybe the Bluroc company waits until the guarantee has passed so that i have to pay for this crab...

    I've been going through a similar process and comparison, although I'm a bit more biased towards the adventure bikes and prefer the modern look more than the classic. Just wanted to point out that as far as the ratings, the NX500 was your worst bike - but in overall consideration it seems pretty high in your esteem. Curious if you looked at or tried the Triumph Tiger since it would seem to sit in the middle between that premium polish and adventure practicality? I think my personal journey may end with the NX500 as a first bike, with plans to get something bigger and more street later on since I havent ridden for many years now.

    Why do you keep using the front brake on mud? Of course it will slide out. Use the rear brake.

    • @edouardl2
      @edouardl2 Месяц назад

      Nope, you need use front brake and it won't slide thanks to ABS. What happened was not because of the braking but because of the lateral slide. Note that when you slow down you reduce the centrifugal force which will make you slide laterally more whatever brake you use to do it. The general idea with brakes is the front will brake and the back will balance.

    Im off to test ride the NX500 this weekend--i plan on switching the tires out asap but to a sticky premium Michelin Road 6 but you have heaps of muddy 50/50 options out there to chose from especially if you run a 150 rear--i did 40k km on those Rhinowalk bags they were great no issues and with packing cubes or silocone cry bags to pack into then insert into the legs it makes easy work of organizing your gear.Waterproof duffle on the back and Bobs your uncle.

    Hey nice video. You probably noticed it but you really grabbed that front brake on the 1st fall instead of going for the rear one. That probably didn't help. And yeah the stock tires are 80/20 or 90/10 tires. I've got the same bike in white btw with stock tires and would definitely not go in the mud with that setup even with crash bars and engine guard installed. Nice call on the Samsung tablet I was thinking of buying the same active 2 tablet. Would you mind sharing what mount you're using for it? Cheers and I am looking forward to more of your videos!

    • @get_to_the_lunchbox
      @get_to_the_lunchbox 3 месяца назад

      Yeah, it's a bad habit that I really need to get out of. Strange thing is I'm actually pretty good at using my back brake, it's just that instinctive reaction on the front. One bit of advice I've seen for off road is to have 2 fingers over the brake all the time so that natural instinct to grab it is reduced. Tbh it was kind of an accident ending up there. I thought I'd taken all off road out of my route. By the time I'd realised how bad it was getting I was in the thick of it. I'm going to do a video of all my equipment once I get it through its first service and have some new tyres, but for now, the tablet holder is from Ram Mount. It's the generic 8" tablet holder, tab-tite, I think and then I've fixed it to the bike with SW Motech universal GPS mount which allows for a few different mounting solutions including ram mount, works very well, and it's solid. I have an elastic band holding it together but in reality I probably don't need it.

    • @get_to_the_lunchbox
      @get_to_the_lunchbox 3 месяца назад

      The camera position is mounted on my chin bar. My line of sight is actually way over the screen, so none of this get in my way. It's difficult to show this as the chin is really the only mounting point. Just as a reference, I can see over the tops of cars when I'm on the bike. If you have a look at Honda's promotional images you can see where the rider's head is compared with the screen, the top of the screen is probably level with the the rider's shoulders perhaps even lower which probably matches my position. www.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/range/adventure/nx500/overview.html

    Hello, nice video. I would like to know how capable is to ride two people on nx500 on highway. If it is comfortable to go two people and if it is also easy to overtake. I'm interested in this bike and I keep seeing comments that always say 47 hp is a bit short. Since I don't think that's the case, that's why I'm asking you. Thanks!

    • @get_to_the_lunchbox
      @get_to_the_lunchbox 3 месяца назад

      Hi, I would love to give you an answer but I have no idea as I haven't done that. I see many people riding two up on smaller bikes than this, but whether they are doing it on motorways or not, I don't know. My advice would be to take comments with a pinch of salt as everyone has their own biases and take it for a test ride. 47 hp is perfectly adequate. As an example I was following an Aston Martin yesterday who was definitely not hanging around and I was keeping up with it. Not bad!

      I have made videos about that. But in a nutshell I want to do some touring this year in Europe, As much as I love those bike the likes of the T100 and Interceptor are not he bikes for that so it needed to be an adventure style bike. On top of that I will do some gravel roads and my experience of that is nil so I didn't want a big adventure bike that would intimidate me on those surfaces. So the NX500 came out on top.
