Hey Cindy! So nice to meet you and thanks for sharing your story! I can only imagine how much you miss selling, it is so fun sourcing too so I bet that's been tough to let go of. I think a little bit of a part time re entry would make it like a fun past time or hobby that you could really enjoy again! It's good to do things we love and you already have the knowledge so you definitely should consider dipping your toes again. Ebay is still a solid platform and Whatnot is growing. It is just a little different with the live approach, but the marketplace is always an option for those that don't love the live option. You will love next week's video bc my goal is to help people on the fence about Whatnot, better understand what it takes and if that sounds reasonable then you should do it! I agree! It really would be removing an obstacle to make it easier. I actually did my monthpy budget last night and was shocked at how much I made on ebay with not listing in over month and just under 100 items total. I think I'm a small ebay store girly, would like to get to about 250 items listed though

@resellmaven you could maintain the same # of listing's and just focus on high sell through.

I'm at the stage in my life where I want to do something I enjoy and not just something that makes a lot of money but I don't care about. I always like to remind people that ebay naturally slows down from May to September and tends to be busier outside of those months so keep that in mind, summer slow down is real. Thank you so much for the feedback and I am so glad to hear you're enjoying the videos and I was able to answer one of your questions more in depth! I am always trying to dish out valuable content. As far as organizing the shelves it is definitely not alphabetical, and I strongly discourage that method bc it is a time suck and overall not as helpful for the buyers, in my opinion. I do organize by genre in the adult section but in most categories it is by age range. For example I have an adult shelf, Young Adult, Storybooks, board books, kids chapter books, picture books, non fiction etc. I try to do chapter items somewhat in a color coordinated pattern for the aesthetic but adult I do have, thriller, general fiction/romance and then non fiction/sci fi/biography

Love your logic when it comes to alphabetical storage - I'm just starting out and I have all genres of books and was a bit panicked thinking I might have to alphabetize them! One other question for you and how you run your shows - what is your reasoning behind bundling vs doing a standard auction for each book?

Yes, stay away from alphabetical lol it's not worth it when you have a manageable amount. There are two reasons why I do bundles the first is a financial reason, every individual item that sells on the platform whether it is a single book on auction or a large bundle of books it's a 30 cent flat fee per transaction. So when you bundle, you can sell multiple books for one flat rate fee rather than a bunch of individual items at $.30 each auction. The second reason I bundle is because I do a lot of bulk selling and I don't have just a handful of super high-end quality books that are going to be desirable to run on auction every time, so I specialize more in volume

Hey, so I have about 4 general sizes that I could use for most of my orders but i come across a large variety of sizes sourcing recycle bins. Unfortunately bc I source boxes that way, I don't have exact sizes to reference but i can give you my top 3 general sizes that I think are ideal for different types of book order, keeping in mind these are best for larger bundles. Small orders of just a couple books should ideally go in Poly or bubble mailers. The smallest is (L×W×H) 12×9×7, these are great for chapter book bundles. Next would be flater small at 14×11x5, great for small piles but one or more "larger" books like a picture book. And then the largest one I use the most is probably 15×12×10 something taller but wide enough for a variety of sizes.

Sometimes pen marks or water damage sneaks in by me but I either discount it or offer it as free and if no one takes it, it's either recycled or donated to a local non profit I work with! I love it! It's a lot of fun and the concept is live selling mostly auction format. You also can utilize a marketplace where you don't have to go live but you can just make listings for people to purchase at any time. I love that! You're right, books are not easy and require a ton of manual labor but I love them as well and I love rehoming them! It took me 4 years to get to this point so it is a timely process of growth and learning but you can do it! I totally understand the on camera thing and I know that keeps a lot of people off of Whatnot, but they do have a marketplace too, and tou can always list there to sell without going live. It is definitely a lot of work to be a reseller and especially in books, it is a ton of manual labor. I have a large influx of inventory and have been successfully selling for 4 years and love it! No decision is needed on that end, but it's not for everyone.

@@resellmaven Hey if it works for you, great. Some people want to do things part time and don't get that the effort does not usually pay off unless you are putting in a certain number of hours.

Congrats! Yes you can just make listings to be live in your marketplace! You never have to go live if that's not your jam. I utilize both options and I don't get a ton of marketplace sales but if I take time to add in a bunch if new quality listings then I start get sales again so it is a good option.

Yes having a good variety of box sizes makes the process so much faster!

@thenovelexchange I agree it does work well, but just like goo gone and rubbing alcohol it does smell I only use it on select occasions. I have a little bottle with a pump on top that you can bad and it dispenses onto your cloth of choice and that works great! Shout out to the dollar store 😊

Yes!! There definitely is! They are incredible books with a collection of some of the greatest ideas and stories that have shaped history. I have a collection myself and I cherish it, hope to be able to complete it soon and get it rehomed!

You should check out my show and I bet you will change your mind real quick. My book prices are tough to beat! As far as shipping, yes it's tough to compete with Prime and the world Bezos has created but to be able to support small business and average everyday American people is incredible.

@@resellmaven I'm referring to resellers on whatnot in general, not pointing at you. Bargains and good sellers are there, just very, very hard to find. Cult mentality and personalities rule that site. The estate sales category is obscenely overpriced.

@JohnDoe-jz5pr Yes there are definitely sellers on all platforms that price gouge and charge more for an item than you can buy brand new sometimes but I'm not one of those people by far. You did leave a very broad comment on a specific video where I talk solely about myself and my selling style so I just need to clarify that I do not fall into the category in which you described. Also keep in mind whatnot is an experience as well as a buying and selling platform, many people enjoy the community and the friends they have made, myself included. I know how much people value a real time review or suggestion of a book from another buyer in the chat who has read and loved the book and that is not available on sites like Amazon or ebay. The buyers experience is theirs to chose and I'm glad to be able to provide a fun and affordable way to get books in the hands of readers.

@@resellmaven You described the cult mentality, the worst of them act like cult leaders and abuse their followers, I see it done all the time. I stay clear of the vast majority of youtube, facebook, tictoc, etc personalities as they tend to be the worst, but a few of them are down to earth and see whatnot for what it originally was used for, a liquidation site. I haven't watched your video, I just looked at your title and commented on that solely.

Hey, so it does take some time to get in the habit of a good organization system but once you have a strategy it works great. So I use name tags for every bundle order and then for auctions I label each individual book. I use post it notes as well as custom laminated tags for my regular buyers. I can definitely cover this topic in more detail!

@@resellmaven that seems like it would be a nightmare doing it by yourself. Keeping track of everyone who is buying and what the bought. Especially if you are selling too hundreds of buyers a auction.

@anthonythomasexperience I personally do not find it too challenging and I'm sure a good bit of it is because I have regular buyers so I know their taste and then the auctions are quite easy because each auction basically is just assigned a number and is labeled. Now in a given show I may have only 10 different buyers and on busy shows I can have 50 different buyers but everyone just has a label. The main thing that is "scary" is if you accidentally knocked over a pile or somehow dropped books while moving stacks to the shipping station but there is a picture of everyone piles when they checkout so the nightmare really is just all the packing afterwords 🤣 It is really not too bad but bulk also isn't for everyone and you can always chose to do a quality model vs quantity.

Yes!! 100% I only sell children's books in sets usually on places like eBay example Nancy Drew, Baby-Sitters Club etc. But generally kids books works great on Whatnot!

Hey, I just noticed I missed this reply! I personally only sell on whatnot and ebay at the moment, but i dabble in Facebook Marketplace as that is where I got my start, and although the people can be frustrating sometimes, the sales are good. There is also Pango where you can sell books. I will also be discussing a lesser known site i am working with in the future once things are a go!

I don't have a link as I don't sell on there personally, I think I have 2 or 3 books listed there. It works for a lot of people but it isn't my priority at the moment
