    Notice they never talk about costs? To give you an idea on why hydrogen trucks will never take off. It costs 5 to 6 times as much for the fuel, 3 times the cost for the truck, more maintenance and higher operating non fuel costs. To go 100,000 miles in a FCEV (hydrogen) semi it will cost over $400,000 in fuel alone. To go the same distance in diesel truck it will cost $66,000. No one is going to pay $344,000 more to fuel their trucks every year. As a bonus to go the same distance in a BEV (electric) semi it will cost $14,000. How many people do you know that are willing to pay the difference of over the cost of a new semi every year in fuel alone to drive a hydrogen truck?

      It took Mercedes 12 days to drive the new eActros 600 loaded to its 40 ton maximum weight 4,436 km from Frankfurt to North Cape in June. The complete tour will be Frankfurt - North Cape - Tarifa in Spain (southernmost point of continental Europe) - Frankfurt. But this can't be compared to the US. Here in the EU we have strict speed limits for trucks as well as driving time limits. I.e. 55mph, dayly driving time is 9 hours with max two days a week 10 hours, every day there has to be a 11 hour rest period which can be split in a 9 hour and a 3 hour period. Every 4.5 h there has to be a 45min rest period. US owner/driver operaters would scream bl**dy murder with these restrictions ;)

    What if we get rid of expensive, heavy batteries made of toxic materials altogether? Instead, we could run high-voiltage wires along the road and add a special device to the truck, so it can get a direct contact with the wires to drain the power from them. On the other end of the wires we can put solar, hydro, wind or nuclear power station. While we at it, we could also make deliveries more reliable by running trucks on schedule thus avoiding any traffic. To further improve efficiency, we could make special roads and wheels which dramatically reduce the friction losses and are made of some unexpensive and durable material, such as steel. Listen, with such low friction we could even attach not one or two trailers to the electric truck, but hundreds at a time. To make everyone happy and excited, we could call it terra-giga-super-loop, so no one notice it's actually a regular railroad doing its job just fine.

    The premise of the title of the video assumes its over. All of this is still pretty much in its infancy. Battery tech being biggest challenge constantly improves with innovation and competition, driving down price. I don't understand the angst against it. Diesel will remain king for the foreseeable future for moving freight and goods anyway.

    I really like Nio's approach with the interchangeable batteries, but this kind of plan needs huge sums of money in order to build the necessary stations, electricity grid and power production. Once you have all that, you give a subscription model for the use of this network, and you build an empire of services, around battery technology and infrastructure. The cars are not the main obstacle for EV adaption.

    The Tesla Semi is carrying a 5 tons (5000 kg) battery in extra. Not to mention that in most countries fuels are taxed heavily (diesel included). Usually 70% of the price of the gasoline is added tax. Just wait until governments start loosing revenue and start adding that tax on electricity that charges vehicles. Don't you think for a second that the government will loose money and you will be charging your truck at home prices.

      I do not know the correct number, i guess a few hundred in Europe. The most powerful electric truck on European roads, the Iveco.E-Way has 1090HP and is made by Nikola.

As is the way of doing things in the coporate world today, I have no clue how the company is called today and it might change on monday again. Nicola Iveco is no more, the Magirus GmbH has been sold to an investor in March and the Iveco Magirus AG is currently producing prototypes, customized trucks and small series at the almost historic Magirus factory in Ulm with one of the Bosch R&D sites closeby.

    batteries just aren't energy dense enough yet for more than short routes. Long haul routes need to be designed like a train. Diesel generator with electric drive train or LNG generator. Batteries are just a dead weight for long haul routs and don't make sense until they can double energy density

      The goal isnt to make massive batteries in cars. The goal is to find the right balance between range and weight while improving the SPEED of charging. Do our ICE cars make a trip across country without refueling? No. Look at the avg gas tank range, there's a method to the size. Same thing with EVs.

      You could ask the Hydraulic Press Channel and press your batteries with their 50.000 ton press. Then they will be dense enough. We in Europe are silly boys, we are already using the existing solutions today. In trucks, In Mercedes, Volvo, Nikola/Iveco, DAF and others. In 40 tons trucks. The US call them Semi. We call them Sattelschlepper,. On long routes across Europe. Up to 800km a aday because by law they aee not allowed to travel farther.

Nikola...XOS Trucks...Fed Ex and UPS haven't even went electric on StepVans after testing Air conditioned Xos Trucks..while UPS drivers bake in trucks up to 120 degrees inside. 72 Nikola deliveries Q2 and planned 80 to 100 in Q3 is a great start.     So I’m wondering why other automakers like Toyota, Ford and Hyundai are not using this strategy for their plug in hybrid.😅 Is this efficient when charging the battery? My Toyota can charge the battery using the engine but it is very inefficient. Can the generator put enough electricity into the battery to keep up with high demand use? So if you are driving 75 mph down the freeway will with this be able to give your battery enough energy to maintain your horsepower and speed? Stelantis is going to introduce a Ram pickup that works with this kind of system where you have about 150 miles of range on the battery and an engine that works only as a range extender. This seems like a great idea if you want to have an EV that is practical for towing and you have plenty of money to pay for what I’m sure is going to be a very expensive vehicle. A very powerful and cool vehicle if it works. But I have the same question for the Ram. When you are towing will that generator supply enough energy to the battery and what will be the MPG when using the generator? My Toyota gives me okay efficiency in EV mode and very good efficiency in hybrid mode. Most other hybrids have mediocre efficiency in comparison. So I have to wonder if that’s why Toyota has stuck with it’s system that has the engine actually move the car rather than just charge the battery. I really like the looks of the SUVs in this video, they remind me of Volvos that are also made in China.

I'm sick of having to pay for the limp rich peoples toys, if they want this trash then they need to pay for it, sick enough this stuff is driving up the cost of electricity for the rest of us, as demand increases, the electric companies have to raise the rates as they have to provide more current and upgrade their infrastructure.

    It really isn't clear if MO3 is comparable on a feature-by-feature basis, real-world range, durability/safety/reliability basis, or if the margin's are believable, or if they can produce in volumes comparable to BYD/Tesla...but will there get there eventually...probably?

      Lu Auto will disappear, they have very very bad and dangerous products, the Li Mega was not distributed much but they will meet lot of problems as they do not respect materials as others do (even BYD is better than Li Auto). Xpeng Motors is much above, but they are going flying cars, which cannot create any damage!
