i own 5 iron gear models.. and bought all the models in 2014 The smoke stack II and pig iron singles are in my 2001Jackson DK-2. the humbucker in this guitar is a gibson 1979 T-TOP which is not likely too ever be replaced. there is a small possibility in the future of replacing it, with an with a aged t-top clone with 4 conducters.. no plans too, but anything is possible The hot slag and Rolling mills ow is in my 2001 fender squire stagemaster deluxe two iron gear actives known as volts are in my 2006 jacson dkmg i was thinking of getting blues engine but i changed my mind after watching the video.. btw.. i do love the rolling mills ow too

I think if the goal is to keep the overall sound the same, the TS should go before. After sounds way cooler to me though. Gives the lead sound a cool filtery vibe.

ocd into a jhs moonshine with the clean and gain knobs at 50% and the tone 75% up. Keeps the ocd tone and bottom end but adds more mid highs. similar to a tom delonge kinda sound.

Great video! If you look in my pic you will see two guitars that I love to play. Both have Quarter Pounders in them but in different places. The first guitar would be my Main Tele which is a 1993 MIM Fender Tele neck on a Warmoth 2 piece Swamp Ash body. When I bought this back around 2009 I was the third owner and I had a no name bridge pickup in it and a Seymour Duncan Little 59 in the neck. I wanted a Tele with a Filtertron (my favorite pickup) in the neck so I found a local Luthier to do that as well as put an aluminum nut in there and a GFS Lipstick Tele pickup. The problem with the GFS pickups was that it was basically a strangle on the Filtertron. The idea was to do a Fender/Gretsch/Danelectro hybrid. Eventually I had to replace the Lipstick and the pickup I chose was a Quarter Pounder. I wanted a guitar that looked like Bruce Springsteen played it but sounded way more aggressive. Now, the Filtertron is a pickup that bucks conventional wisdom most people know about pickups. It has a low resistance compared to other pickups but the thing is ITS LOUD! Even Pete Townsend says his loudest guitar is a Gretsch 6120. Basically it has to do with the construction as a Filtertron has less coil winds and a strong magnet. So the only pickup that can keep up with it and not act like a muzzle is the Quarter Pounder. Now on my Samick Malibu (the black one in my pic) I bought that at the start of the Pandemic before everything shut down. My same friend looked at it and said "Silver Sky" and that got me thinking, if John Mayer can have his signature model well then so could I. Well I wanted to flip my Tele pickups around and have a Filtertron in the Bridge for that "sizzle" and a Quarter Pounder in the Neck acting as a P-90 stand in. That left the Middle pickup and I remembered that I still have the Little 59 that was sitting in my tool box unused. The concept came fast and my buddy and I drilled out and filed away a pickup hole for the Filtertron. I put in the Little 59 and the Quarter Pounder as well. Well the hole that we made was more functional than pretty so I got a set of GFS Tron rings and spacer plate and tried that. Well the ring hid the dirty work but the plate did not work as the GFS Trons it was designed for are METRIC and my real Filtertron is STANDARD measurements. Eventually I did find a place that made a mountain plate/bridge for a Filtertron (Philadelphia Luthier Supply of you need one) and finally I had the Filtertron on the pickguard vs makeshift feet that we put P-90 screws in on the bottom of the swimming pool route. The idea tone wise was the Bridge would be an AC/DC sound, the Middle would be Wayne Kramer from MC5, and the Neck would be a Social Distortion type sound. You have three very loud and full sounding pickups with very different construction. The Filtertron is an Alnico II model, the Little 59 is a ceramic magnet, and the Quarter Pounder is an Alnico V magnet. Now I have Bournes mini pots on this in 250k range and the Volume has a Treble Bleed mod and the Tone has a Greasebucket mod to it. For the middle spot I have a coil split switch for the Little 59, in fact the only real Strat sound is the Little 59 split. The Neck pickup is like a glassy P-90 that cleans up real well. The 250k pots means that there are more lower mids in the sound of these pickups than had I gone with 500k pots which would be brighter. Actually both guitars use 250k pots. On both guitars I went through various small parts with the Malibu taking some time to get the button straps looking right as well as the knobs which really favor the Witch Hat ones. I also put a GFS Shorty Brass Block on it and Soft Springs for the Tremolo. What this did was make this guitar a bit heavier than you would think it would be weight wise. I already had Grover tuners on the headstock so I was good there. Sound wise it's aggressive, the Bridge sizzles, the Middle is both punchy and can Jangle split, the Neck cleans up and sounds great for Jazz with the tone rolled back a bit. Basically that guitar will do anything I ask of it and then some. Sound wise all the pickups actually play well together. Opting for Position 4 with the Middle split and the Neck on, it lends this guitar a warm but Jangly option. I made the Malibu as a "Prototype/Concept" to do the same thing on a higher end guitar. The issue with the Filtertron in the Bridge location is that it really doesn't work well on a US spec bridge as half of the strings are way off the screw pole pieces. Now Import bridges work with the spacing as this did. In the neck position the strings are closer together but a Neck Filtertron does not sizzle like a Bridge one will. It sounds like a really round Jazz pickup. If I had your guitar I would do Quarter Pounders in the Bridge and Neck positions and throw the Hot Rails in the Middle. That way you have a super hot, aggressive, and versatile Strat. I am thinking of doing an Import Strat guitar where the Neck and Bridge pickups are Quarter Pounders and the Middle has a Filtertron as I don't have a guitar with a Tron in the Middle. That may be interesting.🤔

Much respect! Two tips learned from bittersweet experience. First, dents can often be steamed out using a soldering iron over a wet rag. Yeah, I never believed it either, until I did it. Magic. Second, when doing your template routing, do what you can to cut, sand, or shave the wood as close to the line first. Otherwise, that router bit will do everything in its power to rip a chunk of that beautiful wood out and fling it into the next dimension. This is what I was thinking might happen as you trimmed the fretboard. Great job. 🤠

You may wish to do a bit more sanding before applying the finish. There were definite rasp marks on the side, suggesting that you may have started to run before you were walking on this project. It's difficult to see such marks when the wood is dry, but just run a damp cloth over it and you'll be surprised how many mistakes suddenly become apparent. Learning by doing is my motto.
