Made a hard job look easy. Is it about 4h job normally ? I know the video is less then 15min but its fast forwarded many places. I just want to get a time frame for this. If this took 3-4h for him, then I might allow myself 8h :-) I'm slow and new to this.
As long as you noticed the location of the zip ties changed due to a small error but he did correct it just didn't show it. Otherwise a very good brief instructional video. Keep up the good work!
You sir are a life saver. I bought one and it has been nothing but trouble. This video helps eliminate the biggest problem I have with it. You have my thanks.
im sorry could you explain what it is your doing at 7:15, i don't quite understand where you're putting that screw and if that's a special screw or just any old regular one would do. Also what is you're showing up at 9:07.
Hi please hepl ....Great video ,thanks .... I need to replace the plastic coolant head hose connectorpart # 115317143738 between oil filter housing and under lower intake manifold ....Do you think I would get to it by just taking the alternator a oil filter housing ? Thanks
+Ryosuke324 Before you put the head back on the block, remove the block timing tool and turn the crank until all pistons are down. This is done to allow open valves (the head usually get out of time when removed for clean etc.) in the head to clear pistons when re-installing the head. Put the head back on block, install head cam timing tool, then rotate crank and re-install block timing tool. You should only have to rotate the crank a quarter of a turn to position pistons low enough to clear any open valves. Hope this helps. Good look!
+sharad vaidya It is the cam locking tool. You need it to correctly time the engine. It's the same tool used for 6 cylinder. Here is link to Manual. Good luck! mega.nz/#!8sVnQRSa!plk5NuBUZ3eInfq-mYm-u5XXOZRFGrc1hHdDSvKSn8Y
Thanks Maven, I didn't use one as mine is m43 so single cam, but I used cable ties like you and put first one at arrow marked on cam gear. Gonna start the car today, rotated the crank a few times and it works all okay.
Hey buddy, my car started leaking coolant again, this time just from under thermostat where the small tag of gasket pops out between head and block, any suggestions ? thanks

Thanks for a really good video. A lot of work! I have a 1.6 M43 that needs the head gasket doing. I think the engine is very similar, but 8 valve, so should be a little easier with a single camshaft - still debating whether I can face this or pay a shop - never thought of the tie wraps for the timing chain - great idea!
+Fadi Matti No, I did not doing anything to the valves or shave the head. I do not advice doing any modification to bmw heads. They never run the same. If you have a cracked head that needs repair your better off finding a good used head.

This is theeeeee best I’ve seen wow!
Hello.. so if you use camlocks and zip tie timing chain to gears , do you have to do timing or will it be close to the same?
Ideally with that method it should be exactly the same.
You the man Mechanic Maven!
Video started good then say nothing after lower intake?
HELLO KITTY DUST SHIELD HELLO KITTY DUST SHIELD Nice video, thankyou!

What city is your shop at ?
What kind of socket did you use to take out head bolts
Doing the job on a m42b18 but this video helps alot!
Ai o schema cu distributia terog?
Hi... what's the head bolts torque please?
For the m42 is 30nm then 90° and another 90°
This dude is a beast
Ya no thinks I'll buy another one
A pleasure to watch someone who knows what they are doing.
not gonna use cam blocks huh
wonder what the result of not using them might be.
Any tip for a coolant gasket or distribution oil gasket bro? Put in with a silicone or alone gasket?

But what about the headers?
you know that torque takes the cranks and banks and coginetes of the camshaft for bmw e36 318is m44
fantastic video
Great vid very informative

Yes, i have the same questions
I believe it is the crankshaft locking pin that comes with the cam locking tool set

I have a questinon, what size are the cylinder head bolts? The picture on it wasnt clear and i cant fin it in the manual
hi there.. i have bmw e38 1995 M60 V8 engine. i want to replace the cylinder head gasket, is it same procedure as this?
Nice and clear. Going to do mine in a few weeks time

i have a 318ti and i am doing the head gasket, but i lock the TDC pistons 1 and 4 are up,piston 2 and 3 are down. but in yours all pistons are down?

Great video. What is the tool used for locking the camshafts? Was wondering if there is a way round using it as I don't have one. CHeers

To mechanic maven. Can you do this job with out the cam locking tool.? Thank you sir...
Is this method the same for the m42? I'm kind of a noob to the amazing world of automotive engineering, and I'm looking forward to buy a 318is
do u have any pictures of the vacum hoses
Good job bro , I would also take the valves out clean them & grind them and put them back .

Great video. Awesome job you did. Working on one right now. Can you email pdf of the complete manual. My email is rexharmon43@gmail.com. Thanks
