Friedland 603/Maestro Westminster Chime Door Bell Vintage 1975. Motor driven with unique vibrato feature that makes it sound like no other door chime. This model was used by Paul McCartney for the intro to the hit Wings song 'Let 'Em In' It was also George and Mildred's doorbell in the classic British sitcom.

Part of me thinks this is all run via a Telechron Rotor, although I'm unsure. The vibrato kinda gives it away to me, as owning a GE 416 clock, I would notice the rotor rotating past all slots in the Hourly snail before disengaging the hammers.

I have refurbished one before but nothing was broke, it just needed a good clean and a new transformer that has to be 12 volts. If anything has broke then it would be more difficult to fix.

I don't know why they don't do what they do in Cricket and tennis and use technology to hone a player's skill. Hydraulics that propel the ball into the air where the challenge is to bring it down and do something with it. Use it for all sorts of scenarios and challenges. It's the problem with EPPP or whatever it's called that all these training grounds look the same, with one pitch under cover, etc. I'd depart completely if I was a club owner.

That's lovely, same principle as a vibraphone! Do you remember friedland's retail fixture that had all their range on, you could go into the shop and press the buttons to hear the different ones before buying. I'm sure I drove the shopkeepers mad.

I used to annoy the shopkeepers with their display chimes too. Friedland chimes were sold by GE in the USA, but a couple of models like this and the square-tubed York never made it over here.

There was one of those displays here in Dublin too in the 70s, in Roches Stores, downstairs. Best fun a kid could have down there I can tell you, there was nothing else entertaining. The harsh buzzer must have really pissed off the shopkeepers. Bzzzz
