A88 Ep12 english dubbed part 3/3
Summary:
Deep in the sandy plains of the Middle Eastern kingdom of Asran, Japanese photojournalist Makoto Shinjou travels to the remote airbase Area 88 to document the activities of the mercenaries who destroy the country's enemies for a living. Among their ranks is Shin Kazama, a Japanese ace pilot who was tricked by his former best friend into signing a contract with the Asran's fighter squad. Because of this, he lost his career as an airline pilot and the chance to marry his fiancee Ryoko Tsugumo. Now, Shin has three choices in order to leave Area 88 and return to Japan: serve the mercenary group for three years, earn US$1.5 million, or desert the base, risking imminent death.

Is this the same Shin voice actor as the 1986 version?
Love to see warthunder do an area 88 event❤
Dude they tried SO hard to replicate Shin's VA from 87'.
who came here after playing some UN Squadron then realizing there was an anime
Did this episode inspired Top Gun: Maverick?
it did influenced the first top gun movie from 1986 but not the latest top gun movie, well the manga for say had alot of related notes that they used in the movie top gun.
Did this episode inspire Top Gun: Maverick?
This version really goes into the back stories of the characters. It may differ a lot from the original but it’s still good nonetheless.
This newer version may deviate from the original story in most respects but it’s nice seeing more of the day to day operations of the base.
l am wondering how Mickey got his F-14 Tomcat
War Thunder made an anime?!? This is so sick!!! Pretty cool the added the F-20 into the show right after they added it into the game! Clever marketing!
That's insulting!
4:31 : Wow that Phantom is giant
As of this year, its been 20 years since we had this iteration of Kaoru Shintani's. They should make an effort to revisit this series. Area 88 deserves a more solid reboot.
2:14-2:17 What a very bad mean thing to do!
2:14-2:40 That wasn’t very nice now, was it?
The rifle resembles the French PGM Hécate II anti material rifle, it fires the .50 Bmg round
2:56
Do Saki and McCoy ever exchange dialogue.
I don’t know.
Shin reminds of Cloud Strife in FF7.
If Shin is Cloud, then Saki Vashtar is Tseng
The AA shooting at you makes this scene makes more intense. I like how adaption movies/things change. I can’t give this anime topped over the original 1986 unfortunately.
You mean 1985.
Originally in one chapter of Area 88's manga Shin flew a T-38 Talon on demo, and Mickey was flying an A-4 Skyhawk on escort.
Honestly, I'm surprised Shin didn't get in trouble for trying to desert. At best, he'd be punished by being locked away in solitary confinement for trying to desert and trying to shoot down a fellow pilot. And at worst, he would have been executed.
Mfw they gave an F-4D/J an internal cannon... That's one of the few parts of this anime I hate, is they show certain planes with weapons they never had
Is it a F-4D/J? I always thought it was a F-4E which had the internal M61 Vulcan
@@derekonxbox It's got the shorter/stubbier nose. F-4Es had a much longer nose (pretty much ripped from the RF-4B/C recce Phantoms), with a boxy housing underneath containing the Vulcan. Honestly, some of the aircraft models in this Area 88 adaptation aren't entirely clear, due to having weapon setups that never existed, or the 3D models being a bit wonky (since this was done in the early 2000s, it's kinda understandable that those models wouldn't be the most accurate).
@@Tigershark_3082 Idk the nose seemed pretty long from my persepetive. Anyways i would handwave it away and say that the animators intended it to be a F4E and just reused a generic F4 model.
@@derekonxbox Eh, that would be debatable. There were likely references even back then for at least some form of F-4E. They also very specifically gave it an external gunpod, in almost all of its appearances (SUU-23/A or GAU-4), including in the flashbacks to Mickey's time with the USN (where they wouldn't have them). Honestly, these could even be F-4Js, since they lack the underslung IRST/RWR sensor (though a few early F-4Ds outright didn't have the fairing).
Interesting thing to note: while the Sea Harrier FRS.1 Kim flies is a pretty capable plane in its own right, I don't believe the Blue Fox radar has the CW illuminators required to guide Sparrows on its own, McCoy did state that Kim's SHar has been modified enough that it can out-perform the best of what the Royal Navy has. In order to fit something like the Blue Vixen radar of the FA.2, he'd have to have a re-designed nose. However, the Indian military DID use a modified SHar FRS.1 fitted with an Elta EL/M-2032, which as far as I know CAN guide Sparrows. This scene would probably make Kim's Sea Harrier the ONLY Harrier to shoot down a plane with SARH missiles, making it a truly unique bird.
I’m not sure what you mean by that Kim’s harrier is the only one to shoot down a plane. The RN FAA Sea Harriers scored several air to air kills during the Falklands war…
@@derekonxbox Sorry, meant to say with Sparrows
@@derekonxbox Also, another thing I forgot to mention: Area 88 supposedly takes place either right before the Falklands War, or during. I know that the OVAs take place from 1979-1982, but there's never an explicit year mentioned for the TV series. I'm just gonna say it takes place roughly around that same time
Kind of an interesting thing to note, but Kim flies a Sea Harrier FRS.1. In the Manga, he flies an AV-8A
8:09-8:13 What the heck was all that about? Especially with Mickey getting so mad and telling that girl pal of his to “Shut Up” for some strange serious reason when she was just about to tell him what it is that Shin was doing. In other words… “Why did Mickey suddenly get so mad and tell that girl to “Shut Up” when she was actually just about to tell him what it is that Shin was doing?”
A: Kim's not a girl B: Kim was trying to tell him that Shin was probably dead, but Mickey was denying that possiblilty so he quickly told him to shut it because he didn't want to hear him say it. He wasn't so much mad at Kim as he was worried about Shin and processing the fact that he might not make it back. He lashed out because he was scared for his friend, not because he was angry.
@@zachboyd4749 Oh, okay… I see now, sir.
Anyone else notice theyre using the scareface theme ?
Saw this almost 20 years ago and it's still the best episode of the series imo.
Why does the screen flash green every half minute or so?
that's because I'm using a really old PC a pentuim 3 or 2 series with a low end graphics card i think. Kinda hard to remember thou, since its been 12 years ago now.
When it comes to aircraft you name it they got it
Even though i love his reaction to seeing shin's Tail symbol i would have love to see them both pull out of the clouds at the same time and they look at each other for a min, then Shin flies away !
8:24 since when does a c172 have the same throttle as a piper warrior
So good presentation 😃
Thanks 👌
This is dope
i know im too late for this but does anybody know what soundtrack in this battle scene? also can a F-14 can run one pilot without a RIO?
This should be the music: ruclips.net/video/A-RtSrItGzs/видео.html The F-14 can be flown w/o the RIO. Don't really need the RIO unless you want to use AIM54's since the pilot already has control of the M61 20mm, AIM9's and can use boresight mode for the AIM7's. Granted you wont have control over radio or radar but im certain something could be jury rigged to grant the pilot full control over those.
09:29 "none of our planes can take off now"..... Really? What about Kim's Harrier? XD
If this sniper is good enough the pop a plane's landing gear on a takeoff roll, what's to say he wouldn't just shoot him out of the cockpit as he slowly rises straight up?
The green flashes are gonna give someone a siezure
Project Wingman anyone?
I actually liked the OVA design much better…. It just looks so much nicer.
Oh yeah, that's undebatable.
Seeing an F-4C/D with a HUD is.... Infuriating
$30,000 for an entire mission? If these guys are having to pay for their own aircraft and maintenance, $30K would even cover a single flight hour in most modern combat aircraft! To make it profitable, I'd guess $120K-$150K (per aircraft used) plus expended ordnance costs would be a more attractive option!
More than likely, although at least it makes more sense that they all used outdated Vietnam-era fighters at this point (I think some upgraded later on to F-5s but idk yet I’m new to the series) since there’s no way they could afford running F-14s or F-15s (although I’m not even sure if the F-15 had made its debut when this show started) That said I figure maybe ordinance is covered by the base since that’s kind of mission-critical especially for air-ground ops
@@ATFprdepartment if I remember correctly from the manga, there were F-15s but only the Royal Asran Air Force had them. F-14s in real life are very expensive airplanes to maintain, I think this was referenced in one of the OVAs where Mickey's bill was double that of Shin's. Then we see a F-16 flown by Charlie in OVA and some no name redshirts fly F/A-18s in the final OVA.
You could say, a rather creative idea to Shin & Kim. Shin giving Kim ALL the AA missiles, and using the Harrier's distinctive VTOL ability, then tucked away in the oasis, and as a result, Kim's Harrier becomes a makeshift SAM site.
who got those shots all ready
Hope Shinjo got the $30K
Man. Kitori is such a bitch to kim.
Area 88 predicted the Simps of nowadays.
Song ?
There is no official name for the song, and the english dub soundtrack isn't available. It's unfortunate, cause it's actually a really good song
The one at the end is Pain and Possibility by Marcus D, or at least a variant of it
ace combat 7 has a mission similar to this
The Ace Combat creators cite Area 88 as an influence on the games, there's a few references as sort of easter eggs relating to Area 88 in the games, they also use some plane design inspiration for the X02 Strike Wyvern from the anime Yukikaze, the plane is called the FFR41MR (sexiest plane in sci fi), definitely check the show out.
I hope it gets remade one day
So do I.
Ah ive been trying to find this song
