Finding Your Grit Through the Enneagram
In this episode I talk about the gift of resilience that comes from adversity. I live in Arizona and every day I am faced with the beauty and richness of the Sonoran Desert, a place many people think is barren and dead, but in fact is filled with the richness of life. As I say to people, to live in this place, you've got to be tough.
The desert is also a metaphor for spiritual transformation in many traditions. In this episode I take a look at the idea of resilience and grit as it relates to the Enneagram. If we layer the Enneagram over the idea of resilience, we see there are 9 ways to be resilient.
I encourage you to share in the comments some of the ways you have found resilience and g...

Tension, Transformation and the Enneagram

In this episode, I briefly talk about my approach to the enneagram as a tool for transformation. My unique approach to this work is rooted in intuition, spirituality, and creativity and for some is a bit non-traditional. I discuss my beliefs about the wisdom of patterns, fractals, and sacred geometry and what this all looks like for a spiritual director who is also an acupuncturist, somatic bod...
Your Enneagram and Your Moon Sign
Просмотров 11614 дней назад
In today's episode, I focus on the moon sign and your enneagram. As with the previous episode on the rising sign, this approach not an exact science, but more of a way to stretch and grow into a deeper understanding of your personality. Working with the moon sign offers us an opportunity to work with the shadow. As the moon illuminates the darkness, we can only see so much with this luminary. W...

In this episode, I explore how the Enneagram reveals your core motivations and how your enneagram relates to your rising sign, which reflects how you present yourself to the world. There is overlap between the two, and although it is not an exact fit, there are patterns we can definitely see. I encourage you to keep an open mind as you view this episode and share your own experiences between yo...

Using Your Enneagram to Deal with Toxic People
Просмотров 762 месяца назад
It's easy to react when we are dealing with toxic people and forget everything we know about our Enneagram. How that usually manifests is we start exhibiting our shadow behaviors. We fall away from our true selves. We feel angry, frustrated, trapped, maybe even scared. We become disconnected. But if you can take a few deep breaths and remember the wisdom the Enneagram offers you, you realize yo...
Is the Enneagram a Rejuvenation Medicine?

The Enneagram is thought to be a system for understanding the personality. And of course it is that. However, as an acupuncturist as well as a certified Enneagram practitioner, I have come to see the Enneagram as having so much more of an impact on our experience, down to our biology. In this episode I discuss neuroplasticity and the brain's regenerative capacity. I also talk about oxidative st...
Mercury Retrograde and Lessons for the 9 Enneagram Types

The Enneagram and Parenting: Enneagram Type 3, The Performer
This video makes me sound like I'm depressed and self-centered and that I am not.
Don’t get tangled in the shadow, which is what I often focus on in episodes. If you’ve done a lot of work, you won’t express this way. But it’s still in the enneagram dance. Thanks for commenting. (And feel free to express what it is like to live out your 4 from a higher expression!).
@mariamandarino-wisdom-teacher upon further consideration, I realize that some of this is contingent upon one's personality type, so we react accordingly. I am an infj, for whatever that's worth, and I refuse to sit and stew in a pity party, and I focus on others more than myself, but I will pull the plug if I am neglected. I also don't do drama. Although once I've had enough it may come across that way. I admit, I am the definition of a walking contradiction.
Interesting. I am not into the astrological signs, though tension is surely running everywhere it seems... not just politically. Using Flower essences really helps this 6 /wing 5 not take the bait, but it is still a conscious choice, which is a very focused thing.. (Transform it!) Spouse is a 7/ wing 8 and is a forceful type. ( Oy veh...) Can't make the webinar, but appreciate your uploads.
Glad you are using the flower essences! Thanks commenting. (Also, if you can’t make the webinar, if you register, you will get the recoding emailed to you to watch later).
I liked very much how you separated what is a high expression in this type and what is a low expression.
Thanks for commenting. This is the essence of the enneagram to me… we are never just one expression; we hold all the reflections of our type. And when we are enneagram-aware we can better choose our expression (higher self over shadow self). Glad the information resonated!
Depression is different from just being moody - even if you mean very very very moody. We are a little too stubborn and passionate IMHO to develop depression. It's not deep depression, it's despair and it gets rightaway (self)destructuve. We can get lost in our fantasies for hours on end (4s on the unhealthy spectrum), but we ride an emotional roller coaster to get stuck on one thing alone. Depression (clinically) means being somehow stuck, not being able to feel anything, or to change a feeling that swallows oneself and so things get slow mo. We get slow motion from despair, but that isn't depression. Great God! We DO feel things and I mean a LOT of them. Fast changing emotions. Even if it means getting from grief to joy and then grief again and then sadness. Our slow motion, I repeat is desperation, which you happened to mention right afterwards. I'm getting concerned with this mixing of notions, though you were pretty good at explaining everything else. Depression is like being tied with an elastic - it always pulls you back to the initial spot; being a moody 4is like riding a jumping ball jumping from here to there from thorns to a surface of heated iron, to something itchy etc., causing us feel pain. I recommend 'Melancholia' by Lars vonTrier, for a better understanding of what being truly depressed is.
It’s all a spectrum and of course context matters greatly. Appearing depressed doesn’t always equate clinical depression. For instance the fast changing emotions has validity and I agree with your assessment, but it also depends where on the 4 spectrum the 4 is and how much work they’ve done, not to mention wings, stress and security types and subtypes. One thing you’ll never get out of my work is solid absolutes. The enneagram is fluid. Thanks so much for commenting!
Please provide time stamps for each type. Thanks!
Thanks for the suggestion. It takes a lot to run the channel and my private practice without a staff, so at this point, it’s not likely I’ll add time stamps to episodes. Also, there is context in the material and I hope people will watch the full episode for this reason too. I do aim to keep episodes short enough and I list the types in order (unless otherwise noted), so it should be pretty easy to track anything you’re looking for. Thanks again for commenting.
"How the hell do I properly Articulate this" >>>>> "Who could understand this." That's how I experience it
I can see that being a real Type 4 experience. Thanks for sharing that insight!
Thank you, Maria, for sharing this information on RUclips and in your seminars.
You are very welcome! Glad you are enjoying the content!
Very interesting. I think my main point of conditioning is 4 but I relate to the 9 and 5 as well. Interestingly, my moon is in Cancer and I have a Libra rising which you mentioned the 4 and 9 explicitly in relationship to these signs in the moon and AC
Glad the episode got you thinking! If you lead with 4 you may have a 5 wing since you relate to some of the 5. And 4s can often seem like 9s. The key difference I’d say is 9s don’t care about being unique while 4s do. Thanks commenting!
Thank you.
You're welcome!
First time here! Very interesting. I would not have thought of mixing enneagrams with rising signs. For your added knowledge, I am a # 2 with Libra rising. Keeping my giving: people pleasing, in balance. Being pleasant to go with people pleasing. As an aside I discovered along the line, that my two spouses (I’m currently 74.). Are my wings: first spouse was a #8 - very bossy and my beloved second ( & current) spouse is a # 4: romantic with abandonment issues. So I view my Libra rising as helping me keep these two tendencies of mine in balance. Love the freshness of this new, to me, framework of looking at personality.
Glad you found the episode interesting and that you see the correlations between your enneagram and your rising sign. Interesting connections you've made too between your 8 and 4 lines and your spouses! Thanks for commenting!
Hi I have just seen u today for the first time. I didn’t know anything about my enneagram type. Hmmmm….freedom, beauty, will have to work out my enneagram. This video is fascinating. Subscribed ✔️
Wonderful! Happy to hear you found the channel and are inspired to explore your enneagram. Thanks for commenting and for subscribing! 🙏🏼
I'm a 4 (w5) and I don't necessarily see that strong a connection with the Taurus rising... The 4 is a heart type, it's community oriented. Taurus is an earth sign, "community" isn't exactly one of its top priorities. I would have guessed Leo or Aquarius for the 4, since they do care about the way they present themselves and how much they stand out or blend in with the crowd. Now, I am a _solar_ Taurus, but that's the part of me that wants to be left alone so I can do my own thing at my own pace (which is a very 4 thing, for sure)... But my Leo moon + rising are the ones pushing me towards seeking authentic and meaningful connections with others. And also, I'm currently wearing my hair purple, which is a stereotypical marker for both the Enn4 _and_ the Leo rising. I promise I began dying it before I learnt about any of these things LOL (all I knew was my 'zodiac sign' and I HATED it) Thank you for the video!
Thanks so much for your observations and expanding the conversation! Taurus is an Earth sign, but ruled by Venus, and so the sign is deeply tied to beauty, nature, elegance, value. So that’s the thread I pulled there for the 4. But I agree with you about Leo, especially the hair! I wonder though about the Fire of Leo (maybe more 4w3? Yet the Leo pride can also speak to 4w2). Subtypes will count for a lot on this one. And I can see Aquarius as well… 4s are so innovative and have a unique vision for humanity. So yes! Some good observations! Thanks for commenting!
What about Pisces rising?
Since I focused on the types first, there were only 9 signs I covered. But I’d lean toward Type 9 for Pisces Rising… there’s the dissolving of boundaries and of course Type 9 wants to merge. So there is similarity. But remember this is not a one for one approach since we have 9 types and 12 signs. This isn’t an exact science, but an approach meant to make us stretch and find new ways to understand who we are. Hope that helps!
I’m a 497 tritype and I’m Cap rising Scorpio sun and an Aquarius moon. I also have a Libra stellium so maybe that’s the nine. Very interesting video
Glad you enjoyed it and it got you thinking. I would agree on the 9 and the Libra stellium. Thanks for commenting!
This video was so interesting and I liked seeing angles of these rising signs that I might not've associated immediately with some of those Enneagram numbers. I'm a 4 (451 tritype) and my rising is Aquarius, which I feel relates to the individualistic and iconoclastic energy that 4 and 5 create often together. I have my Chiron in Taurus, though!
Glad you enjoyed the episode and glad it’s gotten you to make new associations! I agree about 4s also having Aquarian qualities! Yes! Thanks for commenting!
You have to distinguish waking up or essence work from self development which is oriented towards being more successful in the eyes of society or the ego which is basically more safety or status and this is not spirituality in AH-Almas sense or gurdjieff or any other spiritual master because the great work is not about success or being more efficient in achieving what the ego core needs are in attaining external goals to fulfill internal object relational needs the holes or wounds are only filled from essence which is soul embodiment it’s totally different kind of work they are not contradictory but they should not be confused and you have to be clear that no matter how much “ brave “ you get it wont fix the core issue or the roots i even read its far more dangerous to plunge into chaos and the unknown without having a good body-mind connection because the chaos got disintegrate and make the type worst The great work is psycho-somatic inner work on all levels and then the soul descend if the seeker cleared the vessel while self remembering to assist the seeker if they cross the threshold sincerely with surrendering their will to god or source or the universe
I can’t disagree, which is why much of your comment is beyond the capabilities of a basic RUclips episode. The inner work is what we do in private session. Thanks for commenting.
The idea that 5s are unemotional is not true and isn’t even indicated by the Enneagram. (They are not robots.) Instinct is repressed in type 5, emotions scramble with the intellect. Many 5s are sensitive - it’s true that a lot of 5s disconnect from emotion in real time but that’s not a sign that they are unemotional. This sort of analysis causes a lot of 5s to mistype.
Much of what I talk about in the episodes has to do with the lower side of type. You are correct though, 5s don’t have easy access to the Heart Center (except through the harmony triad). So emotions are difficult, often overwhelming or even awkward, and require processing later. The level of emotionality also has to do with whether they are a 5w4 or 5w6, as well what their subtype is. Many factors come into play. The episodes can’t cover it all. That’s for deeper, personal, and more individualized work. I think it’s interesting you see 5s as mistyping themselves. My experience is most 5s land pretty solidly on their type and are pretty resolute about it. Thanks for commenting!

' They dump the work that they haven't done onto those that have...' ... 'It's NOT my job to fix/help/comfort/lead/etc. this person... who needs to be doing their own work... or, never do their own work... they may be hear just to teach other people to do their own work.' WOW. Sobering.... So many of us want to help, share, encourage, inform, etc.. others on their journey... but they are just 'toxic vampires' who want to suck everything out of us who are doing their own work... and want a 'hold' on you. Yikes. (Stay away. Stay far, far away. Disengage. Walk away.) Great upload!
Glad the episode spoke to you. The key to change is always within ourselves. Doesn’t mean we can’t help. It does mean we can only do our own work.
Nice upload. As a 6... and one who journals... taking flower essences has helped me in a whole different level than I thought (ha!) possible. Was told by my alternative doctor to take Aspen ( "Don't think about it... just take it for a few months", she said.) Indeed, it has helped calm and quiet the 'unknown fears'/quivering in my soul' that was going on. But like a tissue box, more emotions pop up and there are flower essences that help deal with whatever it is. I haven't taken Scleranthus, but would be nice to have on hand, just the same. ( 'Be prepared'...lol... have all 38 + essences on hand to help others and self.) The essences don't do the work for you, but they support you through it so gently and without shame/blame for having the thoughts/issue. (Ahhhh...relief!) The issue/emotion is just temporary... and taking the flower essences, soon we are on the way to feeling and thinking healthier... with faith.
Aspen can be a great remedy for 6s! Depending on the nature of the fear, Mimulus can also be helpful. Glad you are using the remedies! Thanks for commenting!
@@mariamandarino-wisdom-teacher ... yes, have and use Mimulus, too... (and a bunch of others...lol)
I love your word: Narcitising... 😂 I have a word: Soulution ...
I think you may mean narcotizing. It’s a real word… in this context basically means numbing out and falling asleep to yourself. Soulution is a fabulous word as an antidote. 😊
Yes. I'm 7. Mercury rising, Leo. Sun conjunct Jupiter..
Which Mercurial sign? I’m guessing Gemini? (Virgo is also ruled by Mercury). Leo Sun conjoined Jupiter sure sounds very Type 7! Thanks for confirming my hunch!
Fabulous video
Thanks! 🤗
a LOT of this resonates with me, but the emotions part is not really accurate for me. I do feel them fairly strong, is just that there is a detachment from them. INTP type 5 is different than INTJ type 5 Joining mbti paints a more complete picture to me. - INTJ 5w4
Yep, I was going to say that sounds like 5w4.
Authenticity, thank-you, thank-you; all I saw was Drama...
That can happen too. It’s the difference between a healthy 4 and an unhealthy 4. Big drama in the unhealthy 4. You may want to look at my other episodes on Type 4. And if you want to see a really integrated Type 4, I recommend viewing my episode with Rodrigo Caldera. Thanks for commenting! 🙏🏼
Thank you for your insights Maria. I am a type 2w3.
You are welcome! Glad you enjoyed the episode!
The confusing thing about type 6 is that while "safety" is always a huge priority for us, what "safety" looks like to us is very different depending on subtype, wings, level of health, and individual experiences. The stereotype of a hypervigilant person who is always prepared for any kind of physical danger can be highly inaccurate. For example, an sx/sp 6 is going to find safety in being attractive and in having close relationships with others. Throw in a counterphobic streak, and you have a person who might throw caution to the winds and lose themselves in a toxic relationship
Yes, subtypes and countertypes add filters of complexity to all the types. Here I pretty much stay with the basics (and not just enneagram basics for that matter). I get into deeper layers when I teach and work privately with people. But you are absolutely correct about the subtypes making a type look entirely different. The counterphobic piece also adds a fascinating nuance to the 6. That’s true of any countertype though. Thanks for commenting.
This is great information. Just learned I'm a 6. I've dealt with NPDs my entire life. This information would have been so helpful. Fascinating about going to either 3 or 9 to cope... My last relationship was with someone who I think was a covert somatic NPD. And very likely a 7. I think even a non-NPD 7 isn't going to be a match for me in a close relationship. But an NPD, secretive, lying 7... wow. Ultimate torturing pain.
Glad the information was helpful. Hindsight is always 20/20, so be easy on yourself. Keep your eye on the path ahead and use what you know now. Thanks for commenting. 🙏🏼
@@mariamandarino-wisdom-teacher Thank you so much for reading and replying. Yes, I definitely know so much more. I will post the following in case you could direct me in the right direction for information about this. I wonder if my theory is correct: After learning a bit more, I actually think my ex partner is a type 3 rather than a 7. If being "impressive and attractive" was in the form of being "cool" and/or "in need of rescue/sympathy" (for attention) and "always ready to be included with anyone" rather than a stereotypical over-achiever in career, hobbies and materialistically. To "being impressive and attractive" I would also include "being impressed by and attracted to" as a key part of my ex. What if a 3 was a porn addict and sat at the bar silently, but made eyes at people until someone approached and wanted to hook up with them? That would be the essence of my ex. (My ex would never admit to being addicted to porn, but I always suspected something like that was going on). This person seemed to be a maladaptive daydreamer and seemed to pleasurably absorb people. It was so creepy and odd, and I have no proof of any of it.
@@coach_amy great question. The thing about the enneagram though is we don't type other people. And here's main reason why: we can never get into the person's psyche and know the motivations beneath their actions. The enneagram is an inside job, as Helen Palmer says -- our own personal inside job. It's not about theories or about being correct or figuring out what makes another person tick. The enneagram is a sacred method for exploring our individual personal growth. Hope that helps.
Thz for sharing flowers/plants that r good for each et#.
You’re welcome!
I just recently realized I'm a type 4,,,,all these years. I thought I was a 9 Is that common for a 4 to think they're a nine?
It definitely can be! Nines love to merge. And 4s love connection. The distinction is 9s do this with the goal of creating harmony (if they understand you, they can meet your needs and avoid conflict). Fours do it because they really love going deep… it helps them feel seen, as if they have a place with someone who gets their depth and unique way of looking at life. One of the considerations is are you seeking harmony (9) or are you seeking depth and connection (4)? Lots of other factors, but that’s a good place to start. You might check out my type 4 and type 9 episodes for added insights. Thanks for commenting!
I thought I was a nine too. Than misidentified as a two and only like two years ago found my place.
I must be a 5w4 as a graphic designer. I identify with this, but I'm able to connect more with my emotions and honestly don't have a problem with multitasking. I definitely need to decompress. If I have a weekend where I need to have people over, I feel like I didn't get a weekend. I need at least one day a week where I can be alone, or just with my SO.
Thanks for commenting! Definitely sounds like 5w4!
Thanks Maria, I am a 5w6. You are on point.
Thanks for the feedback! Glad you liked the episode!
I am a 5 and had a narc at work who did everything they could to turn people against me which included lying and sabotage. It was easy because I am hard to get to know. BUT, I watch EVERYTHING and I keep RECEIPTS. Needless to say, I had the proof of what they were doing and they are gone. I felt something about them was off from day 1.
Well done. Type 5s will always keep the records!
@@mariamandarino-wisdom-teacher Yes. Once I got the vibe that this individual was not trustworthy, I kept everything. Every email I wrote was done with the intention that it might be seen by Human Resources. So, I would ask for confirmation of their understanding and their lack of response was duly noted. Ha ha. I wing to a 6 so I do find some humor in this too. Although it was stressful at times, I could also laugh about the ridiculousness of the situation.

Hi, I’m a four (wing 3) here, and I love your description! Every single thing about a four, both unhealthy and healthy, I have experienced. One question I have, though, is, as an artist, and someone who loves acting, singing, storytelling etc, I often do live in a fantasy world, and I don’t think that’s something that’s necessarily unhealthy. For an artist, it’s part of who we are and vital for our work. I believe it can be unhealthy if it controls our way of communication, if it causes us to constantly be introverted, effects our mental health, if it causes us to not get things done, then, yes. But most successful artists in the world always have a fantasy place that they go to because at the end of the day, we do feel like that is where we feel most seen and understood and some of the greatest works of art come from those deeper darker moments, and sometimes more lighthearted, fantasies and moments. And I don’t think that is something that will ever go away, for a lot of us who embrace it and use it for self expression. What do you think about that and how can fours still allow themselves to feel all of these deep and dark feelings, create these stories and ideas in their head without letting it cause them to spiral into a depression or deep loneliness because I have definitely felt that and sometimes it is really hard to get out of. I often feel like I am lacking in my relationships where I can express these things and connect on a deeper level and that is really tough for me. I’m thankful to have a couple of friends who can tolerate it and relate to it. I feel like I go between healthy and unhealthy in different bouts. But the more I work through it the healthier I feel like I am becoming in general. Another interesting thought is that, I definitely have a sense of self-righteousness when it comes to my type, and the way I believe people should be. Some of that comes from my type one father, and my deep sense of morality that I get from my relationship to the type one. But on the other hand, hearing how many other types genuinely lack connection to self, lack self awareness, lack emotional depth and expressing it , etc., I do feel that objectively type 4s do have something a little bit special and unique that we offer to the world that helps the world heal and reflects humanity. Just looking at the amount of art that has helped the world, and help people heal. It is frustrating when I am trying to get my family to understand me and trying to get them to open up their hearts more, and through the Enneagram, not only have I realized my own downfalls and theirs, but I have also realized how many other types are truly lacking in the self awareness and emotional depth and ability to heal that the type four has. I have struggled a lot with my family in this way, and while I feel bad for being overly critical at times, and overly dramatic, I also feel like it’s coming from a true place at the end of the day. The world will be so much healthier and safer and more loving if everyone were more in touch with their intuition and emotions, in a healthy way, of course. What do you think?
I do agree that the fantasy world of the 4 can make for talented artists. I think the key is how wide the extremes are in the 4's behavior. If the 4 is spending most of their time in Shadow, that's not ideal. I would caution against using the enneagram to get others to understand you. Helen Palmer teaches that the enneagram is an "inside job." The enneagram is really for us, and for our own evolution, not to prove who we are to those around us. Those who don't "understand us" may have their own work to do (and none of us can make them do that).
As a 4(w5) myself, who's studied enneagram off and on for almost 20 years, you're falling into a dangerous type 4 trap. The enneagram shows that everyone has something special, not just type 4; we 4s just particularly like feeling special. Everyone has the ability to heal, everyone has the ability to create art. I wouldn't even say we 4s are more creative per se than other types, rather that we're unconventional and therefore our creativity is more easily noticed. Back in the days of chatboards (they're still around but not so much) you couldn't go to an enneagram board without some not so healthy 4s trying to out 4 the other 4s. You write "The world will be so much healthier and safer and more loving if everyone were more in touch with their intuition and emotions, in a healthy way, of course." I think this line inadvertantly shows what the enneagram needs that most ennenthusiasts are too scared to touch... intersentionality. Because being out of touch with intuition and emotion isn't a problem, it's a symptoom... of capitalism and colonialism. Think of the most common bullshit line used when the pigs gun down an innocent Black man or woman, "I feared for my life." It may be bullshit (always is bullshit) by the pig who uttered the line, but it is a rationale based on one's feeling state. Now there are indeed benefits to being self-aware, and I think to think I'm pretty good in that department, but such self-awareness has done a damn thing to stop the IDF from murdering Palestinian children. Hard to heal when you're dead.
@@mattdouglas1050 I think you’re misunderstanding what I’m saying. I agree that every type has something special about them, however, the reason that type four often do feel so misunderstood, is because we are the most in touch with our emotions and capacity for depth, and healing (since that is the root of it) more so than any other types. It could be different for you being that you have the 5 wing which makes you more logical. My friend is a 5 and she’s very aware of her emotions but struggles to actually express them and connect with others (another part of healing). Therefore, it can be hard for a lot of us 4s to connect deeply to others. Because others aren’t interested in that. Generally speaking. After studying psychology and therapy for the past six or seven years that I’ve been in it, being able to tap into that part of yourself is absolutely crucial. And obviously, yes, colonialism, and the fucked up world we are in has made that extremely difficult. For myself included, we’ve all been affected by colonialism. But I’ve been the first in my family, and out of most of my friends, who are all different types, to dive into that world within myself to work on healing, and now I am helping my family heal. that’s exactly what I’m saying. It’s harder for a lot of other people to do just because it’s based on their personality type- and emotional depth and expression is part of healing- confronting our traumas. I think that’s where the type four really can help heal people. We help people open up. Just naturally, not with any kind of degree or studying needed. Other types, and I know them all, that’s not necessarily their forte, although there’s other areas where they are better. But fours are most naturally acquainted with the human connection, which is where healing begins, and with our emotions and helping others tap in to those. so even people are going through trauma, whatever they are, and whatever that trauma is, having the ability to confront those emotions and self soothe and work through those is a gift honestly. Not every type has that natural ability, but obviously is capable of going to therapy and finding out how to do that for themselves. I just think for fours- as she said in the video- Are the most natural and intuitive when it comes to that and I believe that something that all types should try for because obviously, knowing yourself emotionally and being able to grow and heal in that way is vital to knowing ourselves and knowing other people. It’s actually a lot of what’s fucked up about the world. Lack of sensitivity, lack of emotional awareness, all of that. This is why the majority of actors and artists come from the type four category. Art really changes and heals the world. Artists aren’t afraid of their emotions and telling those stories.
@@mattdouglas1050 Also - I’m obviously not talking about Palestinian children who are being murdered right now, nothing will save them except for the bombing to stop. but I will say that a lot of people who go onto to help others and share their stories with the worlds are the ones that are most in touch with their emotions and not afraid of the healing process after trauma 😭 works that way too. Whether they’re Palestinian, black, or white.
@@mariamandarino-wisdom-teacher Yes that’s exactly it…the eeneagram is definitely helping me understand my family so much better. It’s been so enlightening for me. And it’s also helping me explain myself to my family and some of my bad habits like being in a fantasy world for 2 long, how that can affect my relationships and feelings of being misunderstood. I want my family to heal because it’s caused problems with our relationships….so Iven been sending them some videos about their type and I’m hoping that will help them heal a little so we can be closer as a family. I’m the only one in my family who has truly worked on my traumas and am able to confront them so it makes for an emotionless family connection ya know? I have also felt the extremes of the unhealthy 4 behaviors and they can be dark. It’s important for us to be connected to our craft and creativity but in balance like you said.
Hi Maria, I would be interested in both the monthly group and episode interview as well.
Awesome! Thanks! Can you send me an email through the website (www.mariamandarino.com and I’ll touch base probably next week to schedule a time for the interview? Also let me know what type you lead with (and wing and subtype if you know it). Will keep you posted about the group… it’s been a slow response, so that one may take a little time.
As a four, this is making me glad I didn't have children. Sounds like we make terrible parents!
Disagree… In their healthy state, 4s are soulfully deep connectors and highly authentic people. They can sit with someone in their darkest hour. They are highly creative and imaginative. These can make for a wonderful parent! With the enneagram it’s about the inner work. Any type in shadow is going to struggle with parenting. This is why we are doing this series… to show the red flags that point to shadow behavior and help redirect people out of shadow and into their higher self. No one type has a special edge when it comes to parenting. It’s all about awareness, monitoring, and adjusting. 😊
Thank you for that, and I agree!
Im a type 8 enneagram, INTJ on the myers briggs.. Shit that bitch had me fucked up ,i grew up inthe hood and yes i did give her a taste of her own medicine.. I never admitted to her i was hurt.. I told her i created a victim Taylored to her and that I was doing a case study on narcissist because I worked for the government and we were doing a database to register all narcissist so they wouldn't do damage to our Future Society... she went absolutely nuts😂😂😂😂...
Am not a 3, am a 4, but here is my 1st like for this video. First time I hear about the herbs/flowers for each personality type, even though I know all these things r a thg(I know they have some work, together with many other details of life). I would like it if u could share a list of all the herbs & flowers useful to each #. Thz.
Thanks for commenting. There’s really not a “list,” but patterns and correlations. Flower essences and enneagram work is more individualized, which is what I do in private sessions with clients.
This is not an excuse, but I want to clarify something to the 4s. You r all right when u feel that u lack something that everybody else has: every other number has more EGO than we do. & some specific amount of ego is necessary to live. Am not gonna develop eveeythg that is link to this, but yes we have a way smaller ego by far. 5 is the underground, but they r in the them of those who believe themselves to be bigger than the world, which are 5,2 & 8. We have less ego than 5s too.
It’s not really an issue of having more or less ego. It’s more about the development of the ego. For type 4s, seeking equanimity is key to this.
I’ve watched several videos and read a couple books about enneagrams recently. Until your video, I didn’t think I was any type. Most enneagram “experts” have a negative, almost visceral view of type 5 people. They all describe us as robots who suck the joy out of a room. I don’t feel that is me at all. You are the first content provider I have heard who seems to have some compassion for the 5’s, which seems to me to be the biggest redeeming quality of using personality typing. So, thank you. I am curious though. I am absolutely in my head, but I don’t think I use it to avoid emotions at all. I am typically more aware of my emotions than my peers. I don’t mind feeling them at all. I do, however, seem to experience life on so many levels at once that it is rare that I react to a situation solely on emotion. And I seem to feel more than one emotion in any given situation. For instance, if there is an emotionally charged situation, my friend might feel a tremendous amount of righteous indignation, and that guides her reaction. I might feel righteous indignation, compassion, confusion, concern, disgust, and fear. In the same time it takes her to rant, I have assessed my emotions, facts, possible sides, and several resolutions. I look like I have not reacted emotionally, but that’s not true. The only thing I haven’t done is rant. I get that many people really want me to rant (or cry or do a dance). I don’t understand what the payoff is, but there seems to be one. I guess I tend to be more curious about emotions than ruled by them, but it does not mean I don’t have them or run from them. Nor does it mean that they aren’t possibly more intense than those of my demonstrative friends. It doesn’t mean I can’t sit with sorrow or express genuine joy for those around me. I suppose the head part comes in knowing when that is appropriate or helpful and not just a way to meet my own needs. I am rather cold when others force themselves into my internal world (including emotions), and it feels like it is for their own ego rather than my benefit. I can be warm and open if I sense someone is genuine in their intent. And I get enraged when people attempt to emotionally manipulate me. I guess I’m just asking any 5s if you can be a 5 and have a rich emotional core.
Thanks so much for commenting and also opening your questions up to other 5s. I hope to see some answers come in on this. I think 5s are hard for a lot of people to understand, especially if they lead with one of the Heart or Body types. People seem to think 5s are complicated, and yet (I think) we are pretty simple. Don't invade us and respect intelligence and we'll get along fine (I'm joking there, but it's kind of accurate 😉). I agree that as a 5 I don't use my head engird to avoid my emotions. I dive into those, but prefer to do it either alone (so I can "hear myself think"), or with someone who really gets me. I don't know if that might resonate. I also get what you describe about feeling more than one emotion at once. For me that's something of a sorting process... I feel all the things, and my energy goes to sorting them out to perhaps label and definitely to understand them. This happens later though, not while I'm actively in the situation. The feelings need to go into their proper bins in my mind. There is also pattern differentiation: this emotion is like that experience. If I can figure out the patterns, I understand the feeling. I agree... that's not avoiding emotions. It's how we understand them. Because it's hard to feel alll of it in the moment. We need that distance to step back and assess it all. So, also, after writing that paragraph, I may be willing to concede that 5s are a little complicated. Because when I'm doing that it seems perfectly normal and simple. But re-reading that? Yeah, a little complicated maybe. LOL. As to the rich emotional core you mention, I'd be really curious to hear from the 5w4s on that because I'd bet they'd have some interesting words to share. But as a 5w6, I can still relate to all of what you said. So let's open it up to the 5s out there... what do you all have to say about how you feel your feelings as a Head type? How would you explain it to the other 8 types trying to understand the inner 5 world when it comes to emotions? Thanks again for your comment. And for the kind words. I'm glad that not only did this episode hold meaning for you, but that you were also able to land on your type!
I am a 5w4 with sexual subtype. I actually have quite deep emotions, but I am extremely reserved in sharing them (or the information in my head in general!) unless I can fully trust the other person. As of now, I truly crave that special someone in my life 😢. I reccomend watching this video on the subtypes : ruclips.net/video/-C61apTNHWk/видео.htmlsi=gJRYNzIudS4Xl1AJ
My description before knowing Enneahram is that I feel my emotions but I don't react to them. The common for is to react and express emotions, even if destructive but people allow, judge and forgive this approach. Non-reaction is seen as robotic. I have always struggled and assume a lack of imagination in other people. They can't imagine something is felt and not emoted. I always expect that everyone has emotions they just may or may not show them in a stereotypical way
I’m a 5w4 and a retail manager. The bombarding amount of questions that customers have for me can be overwhelming, but I’ve taken it as a challenge
That’s funny… in my clinic I occasionally I get patients who hammer me with questions about ailments they never included in their intake. And I’ll joke and say, “well, I love a challenge!” I never thought of that as being rooted in my 5, but probably is! Thanks for sharing!
