Gringa Tries Mexican Snack Chips for the First Time!
I have been warned about those bribes/road checks 13:00 I guess it would be a good thing to keep a ''little'' extra few pesos when driving. I can hardly wait until you do a cost of living etc on Huatulco. Safe travels. ☺♥
Thanks Joan. Now I carry a dummy wallet that has a few hundred pesos in it along with my ID and driver's license. May help to limit the amount that they ask for. The cost of living will probably drop in about 4 weeks. We have the bays trip, the trip to Zipolite and then the restaurants that will drop before the wrap up video.
@@GringosRUs Happy to hear that you do carry some extra funds etc. Hopefully you will never need it again. Sounds like a fabulous time coming up in this trip ☺♥
What another excellent video. I love how Mark said to "Adapt" Accordingly - k to Mexico's culture". So true. Respect!! I have watched Cindy & Fred before and really enjoy their videos also. Hope to join y'al soon.
Thanks Joan. We try to act as if we are guests in this country, because that is what we are. They are the most hospitable people here and we love it so much. Cindy and Fred were great and we also have been watching for years. Come on down, the weather is great and the people are even better.
@@GringosRUs I have been in Mexico 4 times so far in my 60+ years and I'm hoping to spend some quality time there this winter to get away from the cold Canadian weather. If I get the chance, maybe I will have to ask you or Cindy for some help.
Hi guys, I'd love to hear about the cookware. I've been on a mission to replace mine with something good.
It is Kitchen Academy. Green with white speckles. Gina looked it up and it was very affordable. I think she has stored the information for when we finally settle down.
Awesome video. I will be following you for at least the rest of this trip as Huatulco is on the top of my list so far to retire. I prefer heat over cool/cold. ☺♥
Thanks Joan. Glad that you enjoyed it. We can see why so many people have Huatulco so high on their list. There is a whole lot to like about the area.
Don’t miss Jalatlaco and Xochimilco barrios. They are wonderful!
We will keep that in mind. Thanks.
Am very familiar with Oaxaca..would love to know what neighborhood you are in and hope you do a walk through of your new place. LOVE Oaxaca…will be there soon for a few months! Enjoy! It’s such a special place. Do an “En Via” tour…wonderful organization that gives no interest loans to women who start businesses. They give tours out to the villages where these women speak to the small group. Oaxaca Lending Library is a great source for info all about Oaxaca, They give great lectures and wonderful tours.
Thank you so much for the information Cathy. We are in La Noria neighborhood. We actually are in Casa Ancestral de La Noria, which was the hacienda that was the center of this part of Oaxaca. It is great. We are here until early November, you going to be coming before then?
Wait? What? You don't have your own bathroom in your room? You share bathrooms with other guests? Is that right? No plumbing in the kitchen either? Oh, well that's different. Yes to Induction. Once you have cooked using induction, you will not want to cook any other way.
No there is no bathroom in our room. But there are no other people here in the house with us so that is not a privacy issue at all. It is sort of like going glamping, but on a very glorified way as this house is very well thought out. The wet room is only inconvenient when it comes to wanting to rinse your hands real quick while cooking. We solved that with a bowl of water by the stove top. And yeah, induction has us sold.
How common are benzos like Clonazepam (Klonopin) or Diazepam (Valium)? I know Xanax is common there but that's not what I am looking for.
They are readily available though they do require a prescription from a Mexican doctor.
@@GringosRUs Pretty sure they just send you to a nextdoor doctor's office and you pay for the script? At least that's what I read online. I'll be going to Tijuana and I know there is tons of so called "tourist pharmacies" there.
@@wejvi32 That normally is the case. And the cost for most of these doctor visits are very affordable.
Or darn! Missed you again!!
All good. Wednesday the 18th is the next one. We hope to see you then. LOL
Thank you for the valuable information! ❤
We are glad that you found it helpful. That is why we produce these videos is so that people get information and maybe entertained a little along the way. Thanks for watching.
i stayed at the holiday inn for a week last april and loved every day of it
That is a great area right there Charlie. Lots of tiendas and restaurants. We enjoyed that beach area as well.
I’ve stayed in Santa Cruz area. I’d recommend Ocean Park Condos and Real Marina Blue. Both are walking distance to the beach and close to everything.
Thank you for those great recommendations.
I was wondering if you all would run into each other in Huatulco! Thanks for sharing!
We are glad that we got to meet them Cynthia. They were great people and we learned a lot.
Just visited Huatulco last month. It’s been a favorite destination spot for the past 20 years. Bought many alebrijes in “ Artes Pacheco “ on Flamboyant st. Literally the best in all Huatulco 😊
We liked it a lot as well. It was a little humid while we were there, but we wanted to be there when it was at its worst and we got to experience that. But the vibe in the city is fantastic.
what a lovely conversation. pero... donde carajos se encuentra Huatulco?
Thanks. It is on the southwest coast of the state of Oaxaca. South of Puerto Escondido.
@@GringosRUs I will keep watching your videos, they're cool
Huatulco is a beautiful place! Mexico is the best place in Latin America for expats, Americans and Canadians and one of the best in the world!😀 Climate has changed worldwide!
We thoroughly agree with that statement. We love it here and are so glad that we made the move. Thanks for watching.
Is this an old video?
Nope. It just dropped on Saturday.
@@GringosRUs ok cool! Thanks for the great info!!
@@suwitzig4544 You are so welcome. Glad that you enjoyed it.
Myself and husband moved to Cholula Mexico in February from Cabo San Lucas, and are so surprised how cool it is in July and August. Our CFE bill for August was 630 pesos for 2 months, gotta love that. It was about 7000 pesos per 2 months in Cabo during may- September. We love it here we are 30 minutes from Puebla
We have noticed a difference since we came to Oaxaca this past weekend. Much cooler. With no AC I am sure that the CFE bill would be substantially lower here. It is very nice to wake up in the morning and need a hoodie to sit outside. Thanks Peggy
hola Mark.
@@GringosRUs Hola Mark y Gina! Remember that it is illegal to smoke in public places in Mexico. It's a relatively new law so I'm not sure on how strictly it will be enforced. BTW- I've stayed at a few of the smaller hotels in Las Crucecita when I come down there to surf some of the places on the way South towards Salina Cruz and it's always been steaming hot. I've also surfed in my birthday suit while visiting in Playa Zipolite that's just South of there. It's close to another small beach town called Mazunte that are both great little beaches to visit and you can always smell smoke in the air but it's not from cigars or cigarettes! If you two ever decide to make it to Ensenada look me up and I'll show you around town and treat you to lunch at the World famous La Guerrerense seafood stand that Anthony Bourdain claimed as being the best in the World!. Its 74 as I type this and it has only gotten up into the 80's a few times so far this year. It usually warms up here in late summer and the forecast says it will be up into the 90's next week. We'll see...Being a Weatherman or Weatherwoman is a great gig, you can always be wrong and still get paid! Mucha suerte desde la hermosa Ensenada!
The reason everything is more expensive it’s called “Expats Gentrification”.
That is but one part of the reason. It is a multi-faceted problem. The increases in the minimum wage here in Mexico over the last several years has also had a large contribution as well. The influx of foreign money into near bordering manufacturing are another factor.
I love Cindy and Fred! Their videos are so helpful and informative and I'm sure her book will be the same. I was stunned to hear about the concern about how things look to others, that is something that lots of folks in the states are proud to not care about, the complete opposite of Mexican culture - and a good thing to know! I'm looking forward to Cindy's book!
Thanks Cindy. Yeah, they are a very interesting couple that we garnered a lot of valuable insight from.
Back in the pre pandemic days. I looked at Condo Pacifico. Ground floor for 70k and penthouse for 100k. They are three to four times that now and not worth it. Cost of living is too high there now just like Puerto Vallarta
Yeah, it seems that this is occurring all over Mexico as well. It is an interesting predicament that is very difficult on the nationals trying to afford living here in their own country. Thanks for sharing that.
I just got to the greater PV area this summer and last week on the real Puerto Vallarta News, they reported that PV has fallen out of the top 10 safest cities in Mexico 😮 and, that out of all of Latin America, Puerto Vallarta is the MOST EXPENSIVE CITY IN WHICH TO RENT. Not so great news, but very noticeable everywhere. Being the only expat out where I live, I feel as if the locals are thinking "OMG, now they are even coming out here". Not helpful, even when you try to speak Spanish. I shop local and truly enjoy the fresh foods, meats, etc. for the flavor and the lower prices compared to the USA. I, personally, will be looking to move and hope to fit in and feel more comfortable elsewhere. 😢 (I have a lovely place, but have been asked several times already - you live there alone? Only one person? And you have pets? I was scraping by in the States, and now feel guilty for having a nice home here.) I have seen signs in Queretaro and Guadalajara "Gringos Go Home", so, where do you go next?
Thanks for video, great information, we are coming in January 💕
We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 months there in Huatulco. If it wasn't for the heat it would be a great location for us. We are still considering it though. You will love it there. Thanks for watching Elaine.
Finally was able to each it all.
Yeah, it sort of went on and on. LOL Sorry about that Wilfredo.
Wanted to ask Cindy and Fred if locals ask them for money? We live in a predominately National neighborhood and we speak passable Spanish. We get a knock at our door at least weekly with someone asking to “borrow” money. We love helping people. But it’s getting out of hand for our budget. Any suggestions.?
That is a very good question. Hopefully Cindy will chime in on this. It bothers us as well, as we hate to say no, but we also hate to be seen as an ATM. There is a fine line. We saw a lot of able bodied people in Huatulco that were consistently on the same corners asking for money.
Hi Guys and dolls. To begin with…The word “préstame (loan me) is their polite way of saying “dónate to me”. We prefer to give a fishing pole and teach the person how to fish. It is of no help to them to hand out money and they have no hope of a future thru a new income and self worth. Offer a fruit, cold water, cheese and bread sandwich. “Te ofrezco una torta, huevo, fruta, agua fria) “no hay dinero, lo siento” And do not fall for the prescription and they need money for medicine. They can get the medicine from a public free clinic.
@@lifeinhuatulco Thank you Cindy for those valuable tips. And you are right, money doesn't aid the situation at all. It just further propels into asking the next person. We have found that a lot of the Mexican people are proud and want to sell you something for the money. For that we have no problem, even if we don't need it as we appreciate the fact that they are trying to return a service instead of just charity.
I watched Cindy and Fred for years before making the move to Mexico. I got away from their videos because I found my heaven in Mexico. They’re great people and have lots of stories. God bless them both!
A very down to earth couple that are living their life to the fullest. We were so happy to sit down with them. We learned so much. Thanks.
what do you do when you go to buy things to make your food because the people there not speak english i think so?
We use our limited Spanish skills to their fullest. It can be done with some studying and some use of technology. Thanks for watching.
Global price inflation is part of Mexico's issue, but also English speaking people who moved to Mexico are a major factor. When there are about 3 million Areicans living in Mexico not including other countries spending large amounts of dollars in Mexico. If a doctor in Mexico on average makes 50k US dollars per year in Mexico then in reality they still could not afford a home that starts at 200k. This tells me that these home prices do not make sense. There are only so many foreigners who can buy homes in Mexico. This means that home prices should reflect what Mexicans can afford. It is a shame that people want to out price their country's people. Mexico is beautiful in its own way like the United States, but let's be real before paying US prices in Mexico, I would spend that money in America. Every foreigner should respect the people of Mexico by not out pricing Mexicans from their home land. Let's be responsible to our fellow humans.
Very true. It is a shifting economy here in Mexico for a variety of reasons, which you appropriately touched on. Thanks for watching.
@@GringosRUs enjoy watching.

Our pleasure Wilfredo. We had a great time with them.
I like their realistic perspective. They love Mexico but they didn't make it sound like come one down it's heaven on earth.

Thanks, we had a great afternoon with Cindy and Fred.
New sub here. Looks like mark has lost some weight since moving to Mexico. Do you guys feel you are more healthy in Mexico?
Thanks for joining us. We do feel healthier. The lack of stress, healthier foods and more walking. All good things for us.
I started out watching Fred and Cindy over 4 years ago... They are so sweet! I loved the stories they told and the many " how to" videos.. .really just sharing their own experience with getting their documents apostilled and getting residency in Mexico. I also tried some of the recipes they used to show and learned about a few foods I hadn't heard of before. THANK YOU for doing this interview!!
You are so welcome Diana. We enjoyed getting to know them and it was a fun time. Such a wealth of information.
USA PRESCRIPTION WORK IN MEXICO PLEASE E MAIL BACK
If it is a drug that does require a prescription here in Mexico, then you would have to have a prescription from a Mexican doctor. A lot of pharmacies have a consulting doctor right next door. You probably could bring your US prescription and the doctor would probably right you one here based on that one. Visiting the consulting doctors is very affordable and also quick. Go to the websites of Ahorra Farmacia and you can see what requires a prescription and also the normal cost. Hope that helps.
ben the rule no good watch out
Thanks
Im so confused because I don't see a cigar in Marks hand. lol Thank you for the video it was great.

Going to take care of that one this afternoon Eric. We have our family fantasy football draft. It is always a fun event.
I went to their website but not finding any info on her book......Would you share how to get it please?
Please keep checking back. She told me this morning that she received the file for the book cover today. She will be updating her site soon.
Will do. Thank you 😊
@lifeinhatulco let us know when info for the upcoming book is ready, por favor. 😊
hopefully you protect your pictures you are posting online ... people can do so many things these days ... you are very talented and your work is beautiful!
We have encountered that in the past Karen. We found t-shirts coming from other countries that had used Gina's drawings on them. All we could do was send a cease and desist letter. They would take it down and open right back up on another site. The global protection of copyrights is a joke as there is no real way to enforce that if all countries don't participate.
@@GringosRUsman that's terrible
@@KarenJ214 It is a reflection on society's desire today to make money, not earn money. It is a sad state of affairs Karen. But one that we don't dwell on as we can't change it so we just roll right along living our dream. LOL
Then no reason to travel there
I can agree on Tulum. We didn't really find any reason to ever go back. Thanks for watching.
Hey gringos! Watch yourselves there. It's now the peak of dengue season in Oaxaca (although I know people who got it at the coast even in Dec. After 22 months (I'm a mosquito magnet...they bite me no matter what I spray on) of worrying about dengue I now HAVE it. Been feeling crappy for about a month and sick and in bed on and off and finally went to the village doc (100 pesos) and he said I definitely had been fighting off dengue. Fortunately one of the milder strains (there are 4 types) and good news is that by the time my son finally said "enough! you need to go to the doc" and I went it's now in the end stages. I know more people in Oaxaca who've gotten it than other states we've stayed in so be careful at peak hours and use DEET if you have exposed skin.
Dengue is a no joke disease. Glad that you are getting treated and getting better. Now that we are here in Oaxaca, we are undertaking some serious anti mosquito tactics. Due to the configuration of this Airbnb here, there is a lot of open area and it could be problematic, but we are doing what we need to do. Thanks.
