"Ironic" with accurate lyrics
Thanks to Alanis Morissette, we have a generation of people who think the word "Ironic" has something to do with death and inconvenience. It doesn't seem like Weird Al is ever going to rectify the situation, so I guess it's up to me. So here it is folks, my parody of Ironic: "Ironic, With Accurate Lyrics."

DJ Jazzy Jeff reacts to my tape scratching version of his Peter Piper routine
Просмотров 211 тыс.11 месяцев назад
DJ Jazzy Jeff was a special guest at my company's 2022 holiday party, and while he was there, I got a chance to share my own rendition of his famous Peter Piper routine, which I performed on my musical invention, The ScrubBoard. Sharing this with him and seeing his reaction was truly one of the highlights of my life. The only problem was that this all happened over Zoom, because this was during...

The result is a kind of "analog audio sandbox" with endless potential for performative experimentation. In this video, I'm have one pair of "read only" tracks fil...

Kitten plays fetch

Tape scratching the "Peter Piper" routine, using a homemade tape loop
Просмотров 26 тыс.4 года назад
To debut my fifth ScrubBoard prototype, I'm doing my take on DJ Jazzy Jeff's "Peter Piper" routine. The Scrubboard is a completely handmade tape-scratching device that uses two-inch wide open reel audio tape. It has a dry-erase markable surface on the tape loop so users can mark up their samples. It also features a foot-controlled transport motor, and can record live audio to the tape loop and ...
This DIY gear is a unique marriage of tape looping and turntablism!
Просмотров 3,1 тыс.5 лет назад
The ScrubBoard is a homemade musical instrument that employs a loop of audio tape instead of a vinyl record to create a wholly unique but surprisingly intuitive interface for scratching, beat-making, or just experimenting with sound. Want to stay posted on my quest to get it on to the gear market? Go to thescrubboard.com and sign up for the newsletter.
Scratch with any cassette tape -- introducing the ScrubBoard Jr.
Просмотров 20 тыс.5 лет назад
Here's my prototype, the ScrubBoard Jr., which is a feature-reduced version of my tape-scratching device, made to be the model for a Kickstarter campaign that I'm working on. My goal was to make something that will be inexpensive to manufacture, but still easy and fun to use. kickstarter.com/profile/jeremyseanbell
Monkey & parties & scratching & looping!

This is a sneak peek at a live set I've been putting together, featuring all my musical inventions. It'll still take some work before I'm ready to take this to a live audience, but until then, I hope you'll enjoy this video of my unique take on the Beastie Boys classic, "Brass Monkey," performed at Universal Audio's recording studio. It features a two-part vocal arrangement with lots of audio e...
The ScrubBoard: A tape loop with a twist

I've been using the facilities at Santa Cruz Idea FabLab to build a beta prototype of my tape scratching invention, the ScrubBoard, and at last it's done. I made this video to demonstrate what it can do. Among its features is the ability to record and play back audio from different spots on the tape loop at the same time, so I can grab the audio from a live vocalist and at it to my scratch play...
Doublestop Rocker: A guitar-mounted midi controller

In the throes of a creative frenzy

On February 6, 2017, after years of planning and months of work, I finally realized my dream of building a fully functional ScrubBoard prototype... sort of. I was vibrating with manic excitement, and I decided to capture the moment for prosperity. Things didn't go quite the way I'd hoped that night, but I think it's still fun to watch.
Kill the Killswitch -- with the DoubleStop Rocker
Просмотров 4,1 тыс.7 лет назад
I originally made the Doublestop Rocker because I don't like the feel of the standard guitar killswitch. A pushbutton is just not a very musical mechanism. Imagine playing a piano with buttons instead of keys! The Doublestop's rocker design is much more flexible and responsive, and because the rocker has two sides, you can use it not only for killswitch effects, but also to alternate between tw...

After ten damn years lol I can finally get one...
The irony of the Morissette version is that she's singing about ironic but what she's talking about isn't irony. The song is ironic like isn't it ironic that she's using the word wrong
😂🤣😂
What a dream come true! Jazzy Jeff is such an icon and a class act to be sure! Awesome!
Sorry I missed the Kickstarter! I’ll keep an eye out for the next one!
@@foldingthemap3823 it's cool. The fabrication costs have come down so next time I'll be able to charge less and hopefully reach my goal! 🤞
I find it really interesting how Jazzy Jeff went "wait, with cassette?" and you went "no, with open reel". Then for the final product, you are using cassette tape. How does it get unwound from the shell into the new reels for the ScrubBoard? That seems like a potentially pretty interesting mechanism (I'm imagining VHS inspired, though perhaps manually-operated).
Ok so if this is real shit... that's some pretty amazing shit!! Nuff respect due!
@@brianmitchell5043 Thanks! And yes, I assure you it's real.
Mate! I can’t get enough of you channel. Best thing since sliced bread.
Brilliant ❤
well here we go again, and I guarantee yu this is gonna be the new wave of djing but only by FORCE, just like they forced serato on ppl and charged an arm and leg for regular vinyl records to make yu purchase serato, traktor, recordbox e.g. aka Blaze
Nice cuts 👍
😮😮😮😮😮😮
Wow man i'm really impressed. You created a new head for cassettes, this means you could make a new portastudio...
nice
I originally supported you years ago in your first crowdfunding effort to get this off the ground, But I was gutted when it didn’t take off.. I’m so glad and happy for you that you have eventually got it to fruition bro.. I will definitely be preordering 👌🏽😎 I even made a primitive version of it for a uni project for my ‘experimental music’ module and based it on your original idea… good on you for eventually getting it off the ground bud! 😎👍🏽
Thank you for for hanging in there @uk2chinanback583! Looking back, I think it was probably for the best that my original kickstarter campaign ten years ago didn't get funded, because the concept wasn't ready back then. I still had a lot of research and experimentation to do. But now I have all my ducks in a row and it's ready to go! Thank you for your support!
thats awesome

the results were unreal!

Good going getting it ready to sell!
And that is how you WON'T get that Lamborghini.
Now I want to do this with The Smallest Church in Saint Saens, i'lll be the biggest thing in Revachol.
Please send one to Dj Qbert
cool
I know that any LP can be “scratched” or scrubbed… I think there are LPs that are produced just for scratching that don’t have any real music content, but rather loops or sounds. And yes, Serato decks do have a timing LP to scratch MP3 files… I was curious to know if there was any dedicated scratch loop tape cassettes? Are they available with this kit?
Yes! Scratch tapes are available in the add ons!
Looks awesome!! Wonder if you put a motor with speed control. Just a thought. 🤙
I was just thinking of this the other day! Glad to see it's continued development.
pretty sick!
Congrats on getting this done, looks really fun! Does it also have functioning transport buttons for changing the section you’re scrubbing without having to remove the tape by hand?
I wish I could have included a transport motor, but that really proved to much more daunting than it might seem. That's why my other devices use tape loops instead of reels of tape. Tape loops are so much easier to motorize than reels.
The sound: funky The look: slide guitar
I'm really curious about this! Great idea!
This is just cool as funk wee project I'm keen on , sure i seen u demo'in it to jazzy jeff or someone of that calibre who too was blown away with if my memory serves me right, Anywhooz loving it, keep on keepin on X Ish!Ish! x
In a parallel universe this is what DJs are doing on big stages, while vinyl is a fun little art project.
This is pretty cool
*Be thankful it's not a sex toy. A mini computer product I invented (complete with an OLED display!!!) that functions as a BLE peripheral to use with HMD products was sadly not allowed on shitestarter, so had to put it on Indiegogo where there are much less customers sadly.*
First time saw that. AWESOME! LOL. So surprised I didn't see that before or try that before.
that‘s how the djs in the gdr used to scratch because there weren‘t any turntables availiable
Ooh! is there anywhere I can read more about this?
This has to be the dumbest thing in the WORLD. If you want to play tapes, get a good or great cassette deck and for God's sake, don't touch or pull the tape out of its shell. Record a great vinyl record to the tape, or maybe even a CD that is starting to get disc rot and won't be playable in a few years. Scratching is useless ghetto noise. You can drag a stick on the ground or across a metal roof to make "Scratching Sounds".
good luck, this looks and sounds awesome.
looking clean my man! so happy to see you making this a reality
I've been watching you do this for years. I am impressed by how far you have taken it. Good shit dude.
