JEEP 4.0 DISTRIBUTOR SWAP MADE EASY
Просмотров 24 тыс.3 года назад
I've been chasing a reoccurring misfire issue on my Wrangler TJ for months. I've changed plugs, injectors and wires. I was told to check the distributor for any wiggle in the bearing and I found some. So, I am replacing the distributor. I'll be doing it in a way that makes it easier for one person to accomplish. Watch out for the mistake I made. email: overlandmission@gmail.com
REPLACE YOUR PCV VALVE ON YOUR TJ
Просмотров 11 тыс.3 года назад
The PCV valve, positive crankcase ventilation valve, is important for proper fuel mixture and maintaining proper air exchange to the crankcase. Bad PCV valves can lead to several problems like poor fuel mixture which can cause misfires, fowled plugs and loss of power. They can also contribute to oil leaks, oil in the air filter and smoke out the exhaust. They are often neglected and overlooked ...
BARRICADE CLASSIC REAR BUMPER INSTALL ON TJ
Просмотров 8613 года назад
Preparing to upgrade tires means installing a tire carrier that can handle a larger tire and take the stress off the rear door of the TJ. Barricade makes a very affordable bumper with tire carrier and it also works with the Barricade roof rack that will be installed later. email: overlandmission@gmail.com
INSTALLING BADLAND 9000 WINCH ON TJ
Просмотров 3,9 тыс.3 года назад
The most useful recovery tool for off-roading is the winch. Winch prices have come down and they are becoming more visible on the trail. Here we are installing the Badland 9000 winch on our TJ. The install went relatively smoothly and should be an encouragement to those who are timid about tackling this mod themselves. The winch will earn its worth the first time it retrieves someone from the m...
FRONT BUMPER INSTALL ON WRANGLER TJ
Просмотров 3,7 тыс.3 года назад
There are several modifications made on off-road Jeeps that are very important. The front bumper is one of them. It does enhance the aggressive appearance of the Jeep, but its main role is to protect the front end and provide a secure retrieval system. This bumper does both. It is a Paramount Automotive Rock Crawler bumper with a winch plate and D-ring attachments. It is an easy install and a v...
TAKING CARE OF THE BOTTOM OF YOUR JEEP
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.3 года назад
The undercarriage of a Jeep gets more mud, rubs, bumps and abuse than any other part of the vehicle and yet it often gets the least amount of attention. The Jeep TJ, in particular, is subject to "death from below" as unseen rust and stress cracks silently bring the Jeep to a halt. Taking care of the dirt and rust under your Jeep is also a great opportunity to learn about and inspect your off-ro...
STOPPING THE RUST INSIDE THE TJ FRAME
Просмотров 16 тыс.3 года назад
Wrangler TJ Jeeps (and others) often are destroyed by an unseen enemy. The interior of the frame gets dirt and sand in it, which hold moisture, which causes unseen rust that eventually rots the frame from the inside out. In this episode we tackle that problem by gaining access to the interior of the frame, cleaning out the dirt and rust and coating the interior with a rust preventive product. e...
WHY DO ANOTHER OVERLANDING CHANNEL?
Просмотров 783 года назад
As a combat vet I have learned I need to be on mission or prepping for mission. Down time is not a good time. I have been on many missions since my 28 month tour in Vietnam. I decided I wanted to share my new Jeep build/Overlanding mission on RUclips. This episode will tell you why. email: overlandmission@gmail.com
How’s it holding up today? Wobble noisy?
Just sold it to get an FJ for more towing capacity. It was still as solid as the day I installed it.
@@patriotmission5631 nice congratulations! Thank you for the video Sir and the response!
Hey I have the same tag on the front of my jeep tj 716th MP bn
377th ARTY - Camp Eagle - Phu Bai, Vietnam
Thank you Sir
Seems like zip-tying a coat hanger or in-wall fish tool to the clear rubber line to give it some rigidity would solve all the problems. That's what I'm going to try. Great video though. Thanks for sharing
I did this exactly the same way but now I don’t have any power past 3,000
I don't know what could cause that issue.
Nah..the best way to straighten the small hose is to tape it streched out on the bench, then use a HEAT GUN CAREFULLY heat the hose and let it cool and repeat until it is STRAIGHT..works very well !!
It seems like you lose the rear center brake light (that is above the spare tire in the factory set up). Can you pass inspection without that light?
I had no problem. The light was gone before I got the Jeep .
Thanks for the real world view of how to do the job. I’ll be copying your method. Hope I remember the gasket. Well done. Thanks from down under South Australia.
You're welcome. Jeep on!
Looks awesome! Thanks my man
You're welcome. Jeep on!
Could I know please, for my 1998 jeep wrangler is cranked but no ignition, no voltage gauge showing? I replaced the distribution pickup coil, camshaft sensor, and ignition coil but still same. Thanks.
Sounds like you may have a broken wire somewhere. Electrical issues are a real pain.
stop using salt on your roads. sand works better, anyway.
No salt here. We’re in South Carolina. We don’t even need sand on our roads, we use it on the beach.
A sewer jetter would do a great job. Can be had for around $30 or maybe less
What is the name of the long tool with chain pieces on it that you first inserted to remove or break apart the rust?
It's a plumber's "snake" normally used for clearing clogs in pipes.
@@onmission316 Thanks!
Thank you!! Super easy to understand!
Glad it helped!
Thank you
👍
Love the content. Thank you
Had the exact issue and fixed it the same way. Good video. Mine had a little keeper plate that went over the base of the distributor that that same bolt held.
Thanks for sharing
What size bolt is it? I’m having no spark on mine and I tried a half inch wrench and it just cams out when I use the open end of the wrench
Great video! Question. Did you close up the access holes you created after you were finished or did you leave them open? If you closed them what was your process?
I left them open ... primed and painted.
Thanks!@@onmission316
LOL, the TJ has no PCV valve.
They would likely be easier to remove if the engine was heated up for a bit.
6:35 in and you are giving me a panic attack. If it's breaking on top it won't take much to break on the bottom. My mechanic can do it or I'm pulling the cover and doing a general inspection anyway
Sorry for the panic attack. 😬 Risk/reward thing always challenges me to move forward. lol
Thanks for the video! Great DIY on what I need to do on my LJ
Hey I have a question that I thought you may be able to help me with. So I have two tj’s. One with a distributor (99) and one with a coil rail (01). I know the spark advance is set by the pcm, but reading the spark advance with a scan tool the Jeeps read two different results. At idle the 01 reads around 8-11 with little dips below and above, And the 99 reads around 14-17.5 with dips above and below. Is this normal for the distributor 4.0’s to have that spark advance at idle? I can’t find any vacuum leaks anywhere and since you can’t adjust the timing I can’t find any spec info on it. It’s been driving me nuts!!
I have no idea but would recommend joining the Jeep Wrangler Group on Facebook and posing the question. You will get an answer. 3.8k members with all kinds of knowledge.
@@onmission316 I’ll check it out. Thank you 👍
Thanks for the video. I sat there for 30 minutes taking it in and out and turning the oil pump with a screwdriver because every time I put the distributor in, it would be a hair past my mark. We’ll I said screw it, cranked it up, and it ran good so maybe it’s just the new gear and less slop? First time ever changing a distributor.
Congratulations! Yeah nothing is perfect. If it's off, it's off a good bit.
@@onmission316 awesome thanks again
Appreciate and enjoy your videos but you made this much more complicated than need be. Buy a Clog Hog that attaches to your pressure washer and clean from the front. Buy tubing and cut the one in the box and extend it. Tape that to an electricians fishing rod and paint away. Job done in hours, not days. (just have to wait until frame dries before painting.
Thank you 😊
IM GONNA TRY THIS I HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEM THANK YOU!
It's not a hard fix. You might want to check the crankcase sensor also. An even easier fix.
Just subscribed, and I really enjoy your content. Hope you make some new videos.
Thanks. Don't have the TJ anymore but am building and am on mission with a FJ Cruiser.
Thank you hombre. I am sharing in your Jeep Aches 👍🏽
That's how I replaced my Distributor. It was easy. Good job!
Thanks.
Very important to stay on top of this as preventative maintenance. My 2019 JL is showing signs of light rust, especially at the welds, going to tackle this when the weather warms up this spring. Cheers!
What is that spray
It is a degreaser spray … brake cleaner type. I don’t have that can anymore. I get my stuff in the Walmart automotive usually. 😉
On your rear body mounts where every wrangler rots is a box where a welded in nut sits. For some reason it turns into rust. I haven't done it yet but the next wrangler I buy I'm going to fill those boxes with something to seal it tight. Like oil, grease or what ever. Give it a look. Just recently found your channel and I think its really cool. Thanks for helping vets and keepers alike 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
What kind of grease did you use?
What's the part number or name of the tube you broke off?
Part Number: 2329-02024125 Engine Crankcase Breather Hose
But off course BIG at front chiquito rear 🤪
I used your video and replaced the distributor in my TJ just now without any issues. Thank you.
Awesome. Glad to be of assistance. 🙂
Good video. I just installed one of these on my truck and found that it's much easier to do all the connections BEFORE mounting the winch on the vehicle. As a 76 year old Vietnam Vet I found that the biggest difficulty is the weight of the whole thing! Also, I mounted the winch as a portable to that it can be used on the front or back of the truck, because of that I used heavy duty quick connectors between the battery and the winch so that it's easy to connect/disconnect the winch if/when I need to move it from front to back (using short wiring for front and 25' cables to the rear).
Wow. Good job. Welcome home, brother.
Great video. I've been troubleshooting what sounds like a very same issue with my 98 TJ. Looks like I'll be looking at the crankshaft position sensor now. When yours would misfire did it seem to do it more when the engine cold or at normal operating temps?
Normal temp mostly.
How NOT to change these two vents
Wowzer think ill just check the ccv & replace the engine looks to be easier lol
😂
Great vid man! Thanks
Thanks.
thank you for this.
Hi James, I just binged all your videos, and I think it's great stuff. Looking forward to more videos 🤘😎
Very helpful, thank you. And your plate says disabled veteran, so thank you for your military service.
You're welcome. Thank you.
Assuming who ever installed the first one wasn't off a tooth?
Great how-to video. I was curious on how long you've had your jeep. For a 98 it looks to be in really good shape compared to the ones I have looked at. I'm new to the channel so I would like to know more about your jeep. Did you happen to do a walk around video when your first started your channel ? I'm anxious to see your upcoming videos. Thank you for your service.
I've sold the Jeep and have a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. I needed a little more towing capacity for my overlanding rig. I've taken a break from filming but the FJ is just as much fun and project worthy as the TJ was. Thanks for the comment.
I use a piece of a coat hanger and tape the hose to hanger works great you can shape it how you need it
Good idea.
This is why I haven't messed with mine! Tried once for a few mins & stopped! But its time, '02 with 123k miles.
I just purchasedv this same winch today and plan on installing on my 98 TJ tomarrow. your video was very helpful. Thankyou.
It's a great winch. Glad to be of help.
