Jericho Rhapsody
Jericho Rhapsody - Morton Gould (1913-1996)
Jericho is a name as newsworthy today as it was in biblical times. In the late 1930s, Morton Gould chose the city as his subject for what was one of the first major works written for concert bands by an American composer. In
the 1930s, original works were scarce and bands relied heavily on transcriptions of orchestra standards, novelty numbers, marches, and solo accompaniments. Although Jericho Rhapsody was difficult for high school and university bands, it was hailed as an important addition to the fledgling band repertoire. Gould wrote the rhapsody for the Pennsylvania School Music Association in either 1938 or 1939, and he utilized two spiritu...

Powhatan’s Daughter - John Philip Sousa (1854-1932) This march, written by Sousa in 1907, carries the name of the Chief of a confederation of some thirty Algonquian tribes that populated the area of what is now central Virginia. Powhatan was both a brilliant warrior chief as well as a skilled negotiator with the Jamestown Englishmen with whom his people traded and fought over land and resources...

Played many Sousa pieces in high school 68 years ago. Our band director was a Marine Corps WWII Vet, Mr. Clem Emile Toca👍❤👍❤May he RIP🙏 for introducing us to this fone music!!✋
´Fue una pena que esta grabación se hiciera cámara fija y desde tan lejos.
makes people become spiritual by listening.😊

Intonation of the group is barely acceptable. the trombones sound like they are sucking the horns and do not know what proper breath support is. THE dynamics are poor but that could be you tube. Flutes and clarinets are out of tune also. Tell the trumpet players and trombones to hold their instruments horizontally and quit pointing at the floor. Where are the Euphoniums hiding in the first piece. A little better on the second number. These people need to listen to the Dallas Winds , North Texas Wind symphony and to the standard THE President's Own , The United States Marine Corp when the Colonel is conducting. I Give up the Elephant of the fly are just to much I give up. Especially the piccolo.
Who died and made you Concertmaster?
-@@Chromedome38 He is right though
The fact that you feel the need to compare an entirely amateur community band based in a region with a population of 500k at best, with two of the top professional wind ensembles in the country, plus the acknowledged masters of the military band world is I suppose a backhanded compliment of sorts. For a bunch of amateur volunteers rehearsing once a week I think this band does pretty well, and to be able to put on a show of this sort to celebrate 50 years of continuous operation putting on FREE shows for all is remarkable. If you cant see it for what it is its probably as well you moved on.
Mr. Perfect NO-It-All, your punctuation is lacking in the last two sentences. Give should NOT be capitalized. A period should follow 'up'. There's a typo after elephant & the correct form of 'to' is too. Again, a period should follow much. Have you ever been hit in the back of the head with a trombone slide?
Wow. How difficult it must be for you to live in a world that's not up to your standards of perfection. By the way, you're fly is down.
How many mamories. Great!!!
Wonderful concert. Thank you..
Very great musicians, from a retired Euphonium player
happy very much
Fantastic, thank you!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Was hoping for Souza marches. Semper Fidelis was performed as well as any I've heard, so was disappointed to not hear more Souza marches.
❤
I was a Marine and a Naval Academy grad and have marched to this many times. I’m ashamed to admit I just recently learned the title of it is Semper Fidelis.
Vækker mange gode minder fra et skoleorkester, 43 mand stort i Esbjerg, DK. tilbage i 60-erne. Glad musik ( ; =))) 😊😊
Expectacular
Отличный концерт... The better concert❤
Great sound, gang! You make this former member proud!
Excellent!
Nice job band!!
