Yes, these films must be seen/appreciated through 60's eyes. The time period when these films were made was...well, let's just say a little "wild" and fancy free. Anything goes for the most part. They can't be taken too seriously I believe, they are "period" pieces and artifacts of a bygone era and state of mind. There is certainly enough to enjoy (I do) when you see them for what they are. Your observation of not much plot is certainly right on. They are almost skits woven together with a very loose theme. But I enjoy them for what they are and still get a kick out of them. Certain "refreshments" can help! lol Great reviews and commentary...thanks Chlozy!!!!

Beatles 64 was poor. The Beatles footage was mostly all seen before, and the new material was bizarre, for example, the interview with (the artist formally known as) Terence Trent D'arby, who was 2 in 1964, and the Jack Douglas' bizarre trip to Liverpool which meant nothing to this documentary. We got the cliched Beatles healing America after JFK's death at the beginning (which was followed by some horrible cover version of 'All My Loving'), the cliched Beatles championing black artists piece and the cliched Paul story about playing She Loves You to his dad for the first time; all heard for the million time. Also for a movie titled 'Beatles 64'. what happened to the other 11 and a half months? And why did we get a 1965 (note, not 1964) performance of Smokey Robinson singing Yesterday? The whole song!! Absolutely pointless.

This was up there as maybe the best night of my life. Thanks for documenting it so well ❤️

Sometime around 2009, I was driving to a gig I played at an Italian restaurant. I was listening to the just released Deluxe versions of the Monkees albums put out by Rhino. I was in a duo with Kim (guitar vocals). I looked over at the people waiting to be seated and there was Micky Dolenz! He was with a blonde lady, and I went up and shock his hand and said, "Thanks for all the great "energy" you gave in the 60's. The lady he was with said..."SEE??!! (not sure what they had been talking about). He smiled and said Thank You! I told him I had JUST been listening to the deluxe album releases (what a coincidence...right?) and he said..."They did a great job didn't they?" I asked him if we should play any Monkee songs and said..."NO, keep playing the Beatles!" lol Well anyway, someone else saw him in the restaurant and requested "I'm a Believer" so I had to do it. lol He was a really nice guy!

Thanks Chlozy! I loved this album when it first came out (I was a teenager). I think Ringo's voice is well-suited for this material...it's laid back and has the "I'm doing this for fun and having a good time" vibe. The arrangements are fantastic. Your background facts are great, and it made me realize something I never had before. Quincy Jones has made some "negative" comments about the Beatles as musicians...though I think they are taken out of context. He's obviously used to working with top notch studio musicians etc. and it would have probably driven him crazy to sit around the studio for hours while the Beatles (in their later albums when they could) experiment with sounds etc. etc. That being said, He probably didn't think Ringo's voice suited that song and purposely "buried" it a little in the mix with the background vocals (though it does blend nicely as well). When you were providing the background info., it made me realize that, though this is just my opinion of course. Anyway, I love your channel and comments, info. etc. I LOVED your review of Wonderwall (loved that album too) and will comment on that as well.

Fantastic video. It's incredible the way the people of all ages all around the world are absolutely spellbound by Sir Paul. In years to come the audience will realise what a great privilege it was to be there on that night (assuming they don't realise it already).

Just watched Beatles ‘64 on Disney+, every quote used in this documentary-even every word used-serves a purpose; the footage of the Beatles and the other performers featured in these moments of music history is superb; it is heartbreakingly sad to only now hear and see pristine sound and video footage of the American acts that influenced the Fab Four. Interesting topic that not too many people cover. Family influences have a big impact on people especially famous ones. Most of the Beatles families seem like normal ones with good and bad. They have musical influences. I know my mom and dad influenced the music I love. My mom one time when I was a teen came to my room and wanted to hear some of the things I was listening to. I remember playing her Your Mother Should Know and then a Stones album I liked called Black and Blue. Guess what? She liked Your Mother.... but not the Stones-go figure! Anyway, I love your videos. I realized from this how much I really do like The Monkees, I grew up on reruns of their show and later got into their albums. I was able to come up with a top 20 too. What a disappointment that Beatles '64 documentary ! It goes all over the place, and very little music and performances. Also I can miss the talking heads about their memories. The dvd The Beatles First US Visit is SO much better !

I thought it was ok.The best thing about "The First US Visit" for me is that it ISN"T narrated. You're basically a "fly-on-the-wall", taking in the mania firsthand, and left to make your own impressions. The interviews in Beatles '64 by the people who were there, Smokey Robinson, Ronnie Spector, etc, are interesting, as are the interviews with the fans who were actually there... good stuff. But interviewing people who were no closer to the actual event than I was adds nothing of value, and just distracts from the focus and flow. Speaking of flow, the pacing was sluggish, to be kind. The whole thing needed a lot more of what we all love The Beatles for in the first place: the music! All imho, of course, ymmv...

I have the DVD of the Beatles first US tour and love it, also have a DVD of the Ed Sullivan, Beatles performances and I have a Disney plus sub for when the grandkids visit, only ever watch it myself for Peter Jackson's, Get Back. I've watched the intro to Beatles 64, will find a quiet my time to sit down and watch it all but in no hurry,

i think "The First U.S. Visit" is great. you can clealy see how the Albert and David Maysles footage influenced "a hard day's night." from the train trip to the press conferences to the night club scene the similarities are astounding. i wonder if Alun Owen, the screenwriter of "a hard days night," was present during this visit and that's where he got most of his ideas and dialogue. i can also see where i think paul becomes depressed during this visit. by the end of the documentary you can see his ethusiasm has seemingly drained by the end of the visit. he may have been overwhelmed by all the attention. a depression will often follow a "mania" as the initial thrill of a wonderful event kind of deteriorates. it is an excellent dvd and i, too, highly recommend it. thanks for the smile.

I found a torrent of it, so no Disney + BS for me.. Now I can watch it anytime I want. 🏴‍☠️ Now if they get smart and release it on Blu-ray, I'll definitely buy a copy... Physical media for life, if I can help it! 🍻

I just ordered the "The First US Visit" DVD because I keep hearing good things about it and I haven't seen it. I enjoyed "Beatles 64" for the most part, knowing that it was most likely intended for very casual fans and newbies. The new footage was great fun to see and the performances sounded great.
