Houston is the worst place to visit, but living is alright and mid it’s not a tourist city so don’t get your hopes high on attraction, natural beauty, etc. California has more natural beauty, attractions and scenery than Texas does.

I like your comparison I lived in Fl and have lived in the bay area for 20 years and planning on moving back to FL next year. I couldn't agree with you more on all your points. The only thing I wish content creators would do when comparing state tax to no state tax is people you are self employed because compared to W2 because the taxes will be completely different and own a home which is why if your self employed I believe you can save move money living FL and why I am moving back.

Want to get to know your neighbors and share some good times with friends and family, pick Tennessee. That said, I really don’t need more people moving in to ruin my life with their lifestyles.

I live in the Pacific Northwest which is a universe away from southern Ca.in every way. I live 10 min from the ocean,the other way I am 15 min from the redwood forest and 2.5 hours from skiing and two min from the river .The area I live in is very beautiful and magical.I was born and raised here in Ca.BUT…. all that being said as I approach retirement I cannot afford the taxes on the home I worked my entire life to pay off .I do not care for the Ca.govt or policies I tend to lean more conservative.People are usually friendly but not like other states where the it’s just a common courtesy to say hi to your neighbor .Nope not here .The older I get the more I want out of here

I lived in Tucson until I retired. Moved to Asia and now thinking about moving back to the US. Since I'm familiar with it, I will first move back to Tucson. Tucson city has changed a lot. The downtown looks rundown. The desert recreation is still beautiful (except summer days). The big issue that cannot be ignored is the cost of living in California robs me of over $1100k/mo, just from taxes. Rent is higher, gas is higher. I don't know about vehicle registration, utilities, groceries, health/auto insurance, etc. I'd rather save the $13,200/year and take trips using that savings. I'm sure there's other associated costs, but just the tax stops me.

Good comparison. One extra, but crucial point that should be considered when choosing between Miami & SD is this: the language barrier. In SD, despite being next to the Mexican border you can get by just fine simply by speaking English. In Miami on the other hand, you will have a hard time getting by if you only speak English. It’s actually easier to thrive in Miami if you speak only Spanish vs only English. Ideally you want to be bilingual no matter what state you live in, but one thing I noticed being in SoCal & SoFla is if you try to speak Spanish in Cali, then Native Speakers will try and help you. In Miami, if you struggle at Spanish, Native Speakers get impatient quick and even at times get rude at you for not being fluent. Once again, this is just my experience, but something I noticed.

Sweet analysis of both awesome cities. I live in Seattle but visit LA a lot & been to San Diego a few times. Like others have said on here, public transit got grazed on here lol. The Light Rail can take you just south of the Airport all the way to Lynwood with another line for the Microsoft/Bellevue crowd. This includes stops to the Stadiums, downtown, UW & South Seattle. With extensions coming next year. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure San Diego’s light rail doesn’t connect with the airport & is mainly a downtown/UTC trolley? Personally I like 4 seasons & the moody clouds during fall & winter are a vibe. The foliage, the coffee by a fireplace, the drizzly damp cool hikes through the forest are perfect for cloudy days. In SD, I would be depressed from missing the seasons & not seeing the leaves change colors lol. But you can’t beat the California Burrito, Mexican food, & better beaches that SD has! Also….Seattle’s not isolated at all. In Seattle you’re 2 hours from Vancouver BC, 4 hours from Whistler BC, a ferry ride away from Victoria BC, a 3 hour drive from Portland, a 4 hour drive to Spokane, & access to arguably some of the best National & State Parks in the country. Personally, I think SD is a little isolated, with only being near Tijuana & LA lol. Maybe Vegas & SF if you want to include them as well but that’s 5+ hours away 😂.
