Good comparison. One extra, but crucial point that should be considered when choosing between Miami & SD is this: the language barrier. In SD, despite being next to the Mexican border you can get by just fine simply by speaking English. In Miami on the other hand, you will have a hard time getting by if you only speak English. It’s actually easier to thrive in Miami if you speak only Spanish vs only English. Ideally you want to be bilingual no matter what state you live in, but one thing I noticed being in SoCal & SoFla is if you try to speak Spanish in Cali, then Native Speakers will try and help you. In Miami, if you struggle at Spanish, Native Speakers get impatient quick and even at times get rude at you for not being fluent. Once again, this is just my experience, but something I noticed.

Sweet analysis of both awesome cities. I live in Seattle but visit LA a lot & been to San Diego a few times. Like others have said on here, public transit got grazed on here lol. The Light Rail can take you just south of the Airport all the way to Lynwood with another line for the Microsoft/Bellevue crowd. This includes stops to the Stadiums, downtown, UW & South Seattle. With extensions coming next year. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure San Diego’s light rail doesn’t connect with the airport & is mainly a downtown/UTC trolley? Personally I like 4 seasons & the moody clouds during fall & winter are a vibe. The foliage, the coffee by a fireplace, the drizzly damp cool hikes through the forest are perfect for cloudy days. In SD, I would be depressed from missing the seasons & not seeing the leaves change colors lol. But you can’t beat the California Burrito, Mexican food, & better beaches that SD has! Also….Seattle’s not isolated at all. In Seattle you’re 2 hours from Vancouver BC, 4 hours from Whistler BC, a ferry ride away from Victoria BC, a 3 hour drive from Portland, a 4 hour drive to Spokane, & access to arguably some of the best National & State Parks in the country. Personally, I think SD is a little isolated, with only being near Tijuana & LA lol. Maybe Vegas & SF if you want to include them as well but that’s 5+ hours away 😂.

Power is 80 dollars a month here ( you neighbors will turn on their heat so do not turn on yours and the unit will heat up). Condos are around 500 thousand. Hoa are 500 a month but cover water sewer trash gym Internet. Pick a spot central to the county not the city.

Unfortunately how many of us middle class and lower class people really can enjoy housing close to the beach?!. Situation is so rough that more and more people keep moving inland where the heat is not much different than texas. SD, OC, LA all these counties are almost out of reach for the low and middle class to afford a house.

I’m so happy I’ve come across your page. I’m from New York but also spent some of my childhood and college years in Miami. I’m currently interviewing for a job that’s remote to California. Although it’s based in the Bay Area I can be anywhere and seriously considering the SD area. Also looking at OC do you have a video that’s great for families. We have 10 year old twins.

Live in Sacramento. We are more of a melting pot here. Is expensive. Not as cool as the coast as we are 90 miles inland. Bbut being the capital city, politics are heavy here. The best things about living here though, is 2 riviers with tons of trails. Being "centrally located", in 2 hours I can be in Frisco and play in the ocean or drive to Tahoe (referred to as Going up the hill). Depending on the time of year, I can go play in the snow in high country and body surfing on the beach in the same day. Or just go to wine country along the way. Wine is very popular here and we have many vineyards besides Napa county here. Along with all the micro breweries, its a connoisseur's delight here. There is plenty of Big city and Small town vibes throughout the valley and coast in NorCal.

I've lived in both. San Diego was love at first sight but I slowly became bored. Now I'm in NYC for the jobs and night life. They're both great but totally different.

I am definitely moving to a city close to seattle as soon as I get my B.S. everything is so insanely expensive and I don't even care about the weather as long as it isn't too cold or hot and let me tell you san diego has been getting hot recently. I like the rain and Washington seems like it isn't hot or that cold so it is perfect and significantly cheaper housing and taxes. I live close to san diego downtown like 50miles and the prices are the same. Cities 50 miles within seattle area has insanely cheaper cost of living prices and you can still drive to a big city if you needed to. I am taking advantage of free community college and cheap of free health insurance for low income people in cali. Otherwise I would have already left.

San Diego and Miami both are expensive. But in terms of temperature, San Diego takes the cake. The Miami weather is horribly humid and very hot. San Diego is the way to go.
