Dave is far more talented musician than Kurt - a fact Kurt and Courtney would have noticed. He’s better at guitar, vocals, and we all know he destroys the drums. Kurt was a miserable little prick.

I think Kurt just brought in a drummer that wasn’t a close friend right when he was about to make it big on never mind, after the songs were already written, so that Dave would have to use Chad’s drum parts, and then he could just treat the new drummer like crap and feel like the big man he was. Kurt just needed a dog to kick, so he got the most talented, unknown guy he could.
