Finishing the Tower and Dropping Cabins | Model Demon Drop Project Part 2
I'm building a 1/33 scale model of Dorney Park's Demon Drop ride and I just finished the tower. In this video I'll explain some of the mechanisms to control the motion, explain how the rest of the tower was built, tell you how I made it look like the real deal, and show you a dropping cabin.
This as a whole took nearly two months to construct between the two parts. The tower itself took about four rolls of filament and went through three design changes during construction. It is four feet tall and can move a ride vehicle through the structure nearly identically to it's real life counterpart.
Thankfully the run out section has way fewer parts and should be easier to build.

Building a 4 Foot 3D printed Ride Tower | Demon Drop Model Part 1
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.Месяц назад
Demon Drop is a free fall tower located once at Cedar Point and now at Dorney Park. I am creating a 1/33 functional model of the ride. In this video I show how I designed the ride, how I determined the dimensions of my model, and how I was able to 3D print a four foot tower. Stay tuned for more as in the next video I'll show the mechanics of the ride and start dropping ride vehicles! This model...
This Will Be My LARGEST 3D Printed Creation!
Просмотров 8942 месяца назад
I am building a functional scale model of Demon Drop and this video is to announce the project and share a little information about it! When completed the model will be 1/33 scale size. Not every single part will be perfectly scaled down, but I have made a considerable effort to try to make it look just like it's real life counter part at Dorney Park. Because this is such a massive project I ha...
3D Printing Even Bertter K'Nex Trains- April 2024 Update
Просмотров 5 тыс.8 месяцев назад
This is an update to my custom K'nex train project. If you haven't already seen it then I highly suggest checking out the original project video I released. ruclips.net/video/Lc223hkxOhs/видео.html I first showed off my design for custom trains in 2022, but I had a couple issues with the design. In this video I'll be going over what those issues are, explain how I fixed them, and briefly talk a...
3D Printing Roller Coaster Track | How to make K'Nex/Printed Hybrids!
Просмотров 10 тыс.Год назад
I've been working on a K'nex compatible track design for over a year and in this video I will show you how I design and manufacture it! I first showed off this track design as a part of my magnetic braking project. When that project concluded I began to refine the design and manufacturing processes shown in this video. I wanted to create a stronger track than the K'nex track that would also req...
Braking My Roller Coaster
Просмотров 9 тыс.Год назад
Who could have thought that the boring parts of coasters can be interesting too! I built a magnetic braking system for a K'Nex roller coaster as both a hobby and academic project. It is fully automatic and is an add-on to the trains I created in the past. My braking system uses a set of magnetic eddy current brakes to slow the train enough to coast onto wheels in the track. The project took six...

Rocket Run is a launched K'Nex roller coaster. I've automated it using two Arduinos programed to behave like a real roller coaster. The custom launch rockets it's trains at a top speed of 55 mph and up a 4.5 foot tower. You need to do a knex swing launch like top thrill 2 the mechanics have been delaying mine for about half a year 😂 the scale i need is also just stupid
I'd like to build a Top Thrill Dragster or Kingda Ka as my next project. I know others have built both before, but I'd like to build one with an air launch. I started working on it last May, but got busy with unrelated events. It'll probably be TTD because I don't think I have the ceiling height to build Kingda Ka. I'm going to get back to that when the Demon Drop project is over!
You make designing this look really simple. Nice work!
It’s so cool to see this project moving along! The small detailed mechanisms like those trap doors amaze me. Do you come up with them yourself or apply previous knowledges to make them?
Thank you! Some of the mechanisms are replicated from the real ride, but most are original. I've got no prior knowledge about the ride other than what's available on the internet. I'm an engineer so it's not too far off what I do professionally.
@ that’s cool! I want to pursue a career in engineering!
How’s the Mk IV working for you? Was about to pull the trigger on that printer, well, soon will be the Core One.
I love my mk4s. It does have a couple of quirks, but overall it's been a super reliable workhorse that I can depend on. It's a night and day comparison to my old ender 3s. The core one is super tempting and I'll probably buy one as a second printer.
Always love when you make a video, we have to wait so long between them! will you be moving towards 100% 3d printing content or will you go back to doing some knex?
My next project will be an air launched knex/printed coaster! Knex projects are faster, but I enjoy 3D printing projects too.
@ModeledCoasters yh I'd love to 3d print more for my builds but it takes sooo long 😂
I totally understand, but I've gotten better at it! It only took two months to design the demon drop model. Printing it only took a couple weeks. The holidays have slowed construction down. I design 3D printed parts nearly every day for my job so I've gotten pretty fast at it. If you need some help just let me know!
@ModeledCoasters definitely worth giving you shout outs in videos and links in my descriptions in return for trains designed 😂
I can probably help you with that. My email is modeledcoasters@gmail.com if you want to talk more.
This is looking fantastic.
Thank you!
These are super cool! Could you let me know what bearings you use and where you purchased them from? Thanks!
Thank you! These are 10x5x4 mm ball bearings that I believe are intended for RC cars. They come with a rubber shield and are packed with grease. I've removed their shields and the grease to decrease their resistance. I purchased them from Amazon, but they are also available from RC car websites or AliExpress.
@ awesome! Thanks for the quick response! I’m looking at making my own 3d printed model coaster soon, and was trying to find some bearings for the bogies that will be appropriate lol. I’m going to be using PFTE tubing as the “track” and will be 3d printing some track spines for it. Anyways, cool project and keep up the good work!
Can you release the files
Great job! Highly impressive! Keep up the good work!
this looks amazing! cant wait to see it working :)
Im glad I came across this video, it’s very satisfying to see this project come together. I’ve been working on a functional drop tower (similar to those of S&S) for about a year now, with school and stuff I’ve been pretty busy, and I’m relatively new to stuff like electronics which I have been teaching myself. You’ve earned a new sub and I can’t wait to see more!
That's awesome and I'd love to see a video of it finished! I'm considering making one too as my next side project. I totally understand the struggles of balancing school, hobbies, and life. It makes completing these projects even more satisfying.
@ there will definitely be a video and I can’t wait to see more of your projects!
Yo love your vids
Thank you!
Are you planing on Sharing the STL files ? And If you don't mind me asking what do you do for work? And how do you have this much time ???
I will not be sharing files simply because there's way too many and I don't have the time to make instructions. Also many parts are too big to fit on standard hobby printers. I'm a mechanical engineer for my day job. I use a similar set of skills when I design parts for work, so that helped me complete the designs as fast as I did. It took two months to do the design work. I can practically design 3D printed parts and machines in my sleep.
Looks great holy cow and I see that knex coaster in the back round what's that?
Thank you! That's a coaster I built a few months ago to test some custom trains for it. I never finished it because I got busy with other projects, but I like keeping it up.
@ModeledCoasters sick I would love to try making a fully 3d printed coaster but my skills are no were near this level I'm going to stick to knex for now but in the future the collage I'm going to offers a 3d printing coarse and I might have to take it.
@@knexrecreations6875I did MODEL a fully 3d printed SS train compatible coaster, but only printed a 3rd of it and then took it apart.
what do you use to move the breaks like you do at 18:00?
These are cheap linear solenoids. I used them because they were cheap and easy, but when I redo this project in the future I'm going to use a different system.
My largest 3d printed project it my pipe organ! This looks great!
Actually, it is my 3d printed rollercoaster model using K’nex SS trains and tubing. It’s just two turns and a corkscrew right now.
Both are super cool! Do you have a video of the pipe organ working anywhere? I'd love to see it
I’ve been on it at Dorney Park. Incredible.
absolutely insane dedication and quality. Amazing work!!
Cool! I've never been on Demon Drop but it's an intriguing ride to me despite not really enjoying typical drop towers. Looking forward to following your progress on this project!
I also am "meh" with normal drop towers, but the old freefall rides always intrigued me. I'm super excited to share more!
Sorry I didnt catch what that ride is called from the commercial😆
So cool!
Thank you!
That's insane, I have made a working model inspired by the raptor track and I could only make the launch and the first hill, and it took me 2 years ( I'm still in school and have lots of projects). Man keep doing your thing have fun don't burn your self out!

Where I can buy them??
Do you have an email, IG, messenger? I'm designing my first roller coaster and would like to ask your opinion if you can help.
My email is Modelecoasters@gmail.com. Feel free to reach out and I'll try my best to help!
Kissimmee 😊
I absolutely love your videos!!! Rewatched every one of them like 3 or 4 times x3 Y'know... I'd love to see an inverted coaster or a wing coaster train. Just something that would feel so cheeky to have on knex track. :)
Thank you! I'm really happy that other people are enjoying them and I'm working hard to get some more out! I've gotten a lot of requests to do both and I'd love to get to them eventually. I'm working on an air launch for a k'nex coaster. I could make winged trains for it while I'm at it!
Those trains look amazing hoping you get more ones so you can build better and longer layouts
Thank you! I have a second one that was printed in red filament. I hope to use both in my next project that I'm working on
@@ModeledCoasters also really looking forward to the pneumatic launch would you add the retractable brake fins like on maxx force ?
Long shot here but do you know the kind of bearings you used?
I watched the video scratch that
I am currently looking into 3d printing a working scale model of Millennium Force at cedar point. Do you have any tips for how to design the trains?
That's super cool and I look forward to seeing it! Designing trains is surprisingly complicated. I highly suggest checking out both my original video of my train design and the recent update video of them. By far my biggest suggestion is to create a design that is forgiving of track imperfections, but not too forgiving. If the parts are too loose or allow for too much movement then it makes them perform poorly. A good 3D printer and quality material for it is extremely important. Finally, the size of the model will have some impact on the complexity. If the scale is too small then creating and printing functional parts becomes more tricky. This is why I haven't done any projects with micro knex.
@@ModeledCoasters thank you for the advice
you should make custom supports instead of rmc truss supports everywhere!😂
The truss supports are the quickest way to build a structure. I would keep an eye out for my next project. No spoilers, but I plan on using custom supports for it!
Now upscale this by a large margin and you have a real rollercoaster. On a serious note great video, do you have any tips as i would like to do it myself?
Maybe someday I'll have the space and money to do that! My best tip is to give your designs some "wiggle room." The printing process is never 100% accurate to the computer designs, so building in some adjustability saves you a ton of time and materials. This was something I learned the hard way pretty early into the process. Also use quality materials and glues. The super glue I was using didn't hold up very well and that doomed the project.
In the beginning the way how that coaster moved Real wooden coastr
Any chance of releasing these files? I'm just getting back into making K'nex coasters, and would love to print these on my own printer
Could you release the file?
with the magnetic brake fins on the trains you could probably do an LIM launch like the ones found on older premire rides launch coasters like Mr. Freeze.
I'm actually hopeful to build a LSM launch someday in the future. These trains sit higher off the track. With the added height I've been able to squeeze some magnets underneath for roll back brakes on my air launch project. I'd like to try to use the magnets for a LSM launch at some point in the future.
I was just watching your previous videos a month or so ago and was wondering where you went after that last one. Glad to see it is still on.
even bertter lol
I'm excited to see new debelopments on the air launch!
I'm super excited to start sharing the progress! It's been a project I've been wanting to do for a while
These trains are crazy give this man a raise
Hope this gets more views
dam nice work! I too have re designed the wheels, atm Ive just finished fixing the front axle to work just like hyperia / hyperion style
That's super cool! I personally modeled mine to look similar to TT2's trains. I can't wait to see the final product!
Great job, the new trains look quite modern!
These trains seem like a significant improvement and I’m excited to see how you’re next project turns out!
I can't wait for the airlaunch project! Wanted to build this myself, but can never find the time :(
I'm super excited to start sharing the progress for it. Its definitely going to be a huge time commitment, but it's also a project I've been wanting to do for a while!
This is one of the reasons why I consider this one of the best knex channels NGL
Wait, really!? 👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
Yes
PLEASE POST THIS ON THINIVERSE 🙏 THANK YOU
Do you sell any of your 3D models or know anyone that does as I would definitely be interested in purchasing! I’m not sure how to 3D print and I struggle to find any standard coaster cars in the UK
I'm planning on selling a couple batches of my trains once I finish the next generation of them. The design is nearly finalized and I should hopefully be sharing more information by the end of February! I wasn't really intending to sell any track models as I don't have the capacity to make them. But if there's enough interest I can look into it.
@@ModeledCoasters Amazing! I’ll check back regularly for any updates. Thank you
