Altona Salmon Run Kayak Fishing
In this video I was exploring the waters of Altona when I noticed a lot of bird action, so I though wait, just maybe the Salmon Run was on. I've driven past my local beach so many times and I have seen the seagulls congregating on the water, but I have never been out on my kayak when it is actually all happening.
There was a lot of bait fish in the water and there were black patches everywhere. And lurking under them we some nice salmon. It is an amazing adventure being smack bang in the middle of a feeding frenzy. The noise of the fish and birds really took me by surprise.
Clearly this is the most excited I have been catching fish.

      Yeah it's a new rod for me, as I lost my 1DFR when I flipped over awhile back. The rod is a Abu Garcia Veritas 6.6 1-3kg, whilst it is a nice rod, I think I like the 1DFR better. But I don't think they make them anymore, well not in the white colour anyway. But if you not fussy with colours then I would go the 1DFR. I personally like the white because it contrasts well the backdrop of the ocean, which is good for filming.

      Hey, normally the EPA shut the beach down when it is polluted to point of danger for people. There was a lot of people down here over the last few days and in the water. It has been smelling strongly over the last two weeks up near Apex park. Given it has been pretty choppy for a number of days the water is dark at the movement, the last two days have had calm conditions, it was like glass out there this morning and for most of the day, plenty of Kayaker out too.

    Love most of your video's, not this one. Tying on the front hook like that will delay the effectiveness of any strike as the lines pulls up the hook and stops at the sinker part of the jighead, destroying any plastic if you don't hook up. Why not just tie it on as normal and then tie a line from the eye of the jighead to the second hook? Far more effective and less risk. Just a thought.

    • @hookinmouthtackle8508
      @hookinmouthtackle8508 10 месяцев назад

      Hi Mate, thanks for that, never tried it your way, I have seen the jig heads that have the extra loop hole at the bottom which would be perfect. The method I used in the video, I use all the time and it truely increased my catch rate. But now I am keen to give your method a shot and see if that increases my catch rate even further. I appreciate that! Thanks for watching - Snapper and Jews bite well at night and the wind conditions are usually lighter in the late evening. Double my chances of getting a good fish. :)
