The Trauma of Tourists to Hollywoodland

Neighbor Joe Montagna made this film about the negative impact of the unfettered access of visitors to the 45-year-old Hollywood sign. Though the names of our city leaders has changed, the problem remains dangerously the same. In five years since this film was made, the problem is still being ignored by city officials in their effort to promote tourism over everyone's safety.

Neighbor George Clark edited the captures of his backyard camera trap into this entertaining short. We must never forget this is an ecologically sensitive area and needs our protection.

The community of Hollywoodland in Los Angeles kicks celebrates its 100th birthday celebration with this exhibit by local artists.
Just watched this after learning about peg Entwistle...these two people sound like the kind of people that would complain about you playing ball out in the street...it.maynot be the original sign but it's an iconic sign all over the world...and just like anything iconic to see it and touch it is normal...you both sound like you have no interest but to complain and poop it's history...negativity is all I got from this.... do you live by it?...annoyed of visitors and tourists maybe...awful just awful..and I'm not even from america!
LOL... who are these two people talking? Can someone tell me so I can go find them and personally tell them to STFU?
I never realized we had a direct line to the stables to order delivery of a morning mount!
I liked the original Hollywoodland sign❤
Gawd, u take it all sos eriously.
They are seriously obnoxious... they live up there near the sign from what it sounds like and what they have to complain about is how people come there to see that sign??????? Ya know, with all the money they have to live there plus the cost of their homes, they could easily sell it and MOVE! But instead they want people to NOT come see the Hollywood sign because it's not actually 100 years old???? I have to know who these two are. I will go to their front door to give them a piece of my mind.
My fathers company, Pacific Outdoor was the contractor who rebuilt the sign in 1978. My brother and i worked on that project that summer. Quite an experience....
What a fabulous historical video of Hollywoodland. Thank you.
Many thanks!
Thank you for this, and the great photos. Love to learn about Hollywoodland history.
Glad you enjoyed it

Lived in LA loved it worked in movues
I love love love love watching videos of old Hollywood there's one picture that I've seen several times it's a picture of an old car that's going up a real windy road towards the Hollywood sign on the east of it and then there's a big house that shows between the sign and the car I would so love to hear about that house the picture is always around
to have been blessed enough to have and still live in a John Lautner house is so amazing. obviously this gentleman could have built his own house seeing all the skilled work he does but meeting Lautner and having a family of people that all had homes designed for them is so extraordinary. we are also blessed with Helena who still keeps to architecture and history of these houses in tact. it couldn't have been done so well had she not been the best partner someone could work with. I really miss her Roscoe glass house as well one of my favorites. its been so neat to hear and meet the Mr Williams for the Lautner Williams house. I've known the house via pictures but to meet the man. amazing thank you for sharing your home and life with us. we love anything connected to Lautner without you he would have never built this house. you sir are half the story and we appreciate you as well. cheers

I hate how the interviewer treats him like he is a child.... very unprofessional
Beautiful!
What a gem Harry was
Yanno what would be fun to do is a video of all the stars who have lived in Hollywoodland
I live in Oxford UK and have, for several years, been interested in the early years of the Hollywood Hills. I had no idea that the gates to 'Hollywoodland' remain intact and that there is so much information and interest in this topic. Does anyone have any idea of the approximate proportion of these early houses that remain standing? Many thanks!
Hello there are approximately 120 original Hollywoodland still standing.
@@christineobrien2259 That's incredible and most impressive, especially given the propensity, during the 1960s and '70s, to raze anything of some age to the ground. I hope they're all now protected buildings!
Someone asked who the voices were...I don't know about the dude, but the woman sounds like Ellen Burstyn.
I love L.A. history. Thank you for posting this.
I would sell my soul to live in L.A. in that time period. Just paradise. I finally left L.A. in 2015. Too much crime, traffic, bums/gangbangers/illegals/druggies/homeless/fruits-nut-flakes/taxes... all a result of insane Democrat policies. Listen to KABC John Phillips Show at 3:00 EST for the latest rundown on "The City of Angles"
You are such an amazing liar.

California is a jewel, a beautiful place. Hopefully one day it will return to normalcy.
What a cheese bag way to make a video. Looks like a bunch of 10 year olds tacked up a bunch of pictures on the wall
Then move on, punk.
@@twistoffate4791 punk off chump !
George Clark produced this wonderful video. It gives the viewer an understanding of why we have such lush wildlife in Hollywoodland. If you view a map you will see tract 6450 is one of the few Los Angeles neighborhoods immersed in the openspace. Unfortunately, the city refuses to recognize the sensitivity here despite it being a SEA.
Nicely done, but who are the voices?
Chris O"brien is the woman don't know who the guy is.
As much as I would love to live there, I would hate to live there when I see how awful some people can be! I hope things continue to improve for those lucky enough to live in this incredible area. ❤
Great video. I love the sign so much. ❤❤❤
Interesting….. the poster in the beginning was photographed from the roof of our family home. The photos of a kid climbing on the sign at about 6:50 and 7:00 was me (pic by Miles Hochstein). My father almost died cause an ambulance couldn’t reach his house and yet he was always adamant that everyone and anyone who wanted to visit the sign should be able. A special place for me. This is very very cool! What a unique claim to fame! ❤❤❤
Our research identifies Electrical Products Corp (EPC) as the source who electrified the sign. They could have also designed the sign since the lights were installed afterwards and that task needed an understanding of the construction. In addition, EPC was a large billboard company who owned a patent for neon and constructed many large signs/ billboards in CA.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and The Hollywood Sign Trust are not representing our community.
People need to stop destroying history, buildings, landmarks. Everything was beautiful back in the day. Nashville is slowly becoming Los Angeles
@beauturcz6775 Portland Oregon is also becoming San Francisco with It's Homeless Tents along the City Streets. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Excellent history lesson. Maybe it should be mandatory viewing for City Politicians who can’t seem to differentiate between opinion and fact.
How beautiful! The soul at work!
Forget about the sign, people, and learn more about the environs surrounding it. Thanks for clarifying.
Thank you for the very nice video, history, and descriptions
Thanks for this
What a great exhibit! I’ll have to go check it out.
