While I am waiting on my cylinder issue that seems to have suddenly become damaged after being told it arrived ok by smedspeed - I am getting on with other things while resolving this issue to carry on. Far from happy and will most likely not use again and deal direct with Heiden Tuning for the rest of the build and support.

Screaming Turbine Helicopter Reverse Take Off | UK Military Show
I may have missed it but...what size sprockets are you using? Did you vary from stock? 18t front?
Funny you should say, just re looking at that now. I'm running 17 32 but will be buying an 18 to run 18 32
Absolutely beautiful work here. As soon as I saw the battery box, I said "wow". That is really a demonstration of quality work. Also, the camera work at the beginning was certainly quite stellar. Thanks for putting in the time to add that bit in because it did pay off. Just brilliant all around.
Thank you very much, very kind words. More to come, I'm looking forward to doing the rolling open road footage.
How much was the 277 cam?
Was it really as easy to do, as you made it seem?
Yea the bottom end is far more straightforward than the top as you just need to follow assembly instructions. The top end however can be done many ways and different specs that make it much more complex.
The motor looks great. Good work mate.
Thank you
Great eye for fit and finish,,your making an excellent job
Thank you, long old road but getting near to the end now.
Love it mate , but the only thing i would change is where your starter button is too close to the horn button and it only takes a second for you to hit the wrong one and starter is going while engine is running , just saying but quality of build is second to none mate 😁😁🤘🤘
Thanks mate, yea I did also have this concern. When your on the bike, and feeling the button, the starter one is angled up and horn angled down, so it makes that situation slightly better when pressing, but it's a valid point especially when you normally only use the horn in a hurry.
Vision+Drive. A steadfast grip on what should be achieved, you were not f#£@g about with the quality end product for sure! Watched them all and only commenting now, should have had more views/subscribers from the XS devotees. I put a stock xs in a 90 gsxr 750 slingshot frame and one hard mount vs rubber mounts was straight forward but head steady required too much thought, too much control then not enough, gas struts or " bumpers" heat expansion and over bracing etc etc = Give up. But in your case- Excellent 👍 and enjoy your build (it really was yours and you claim the trophy) Now, rest and repeat! Best wishes
Thank you very much. And I'm glad you have been following the build. I'm just currently sculptureing the seat foam and will hopefully have another vid soon.
I'll go over the build again soon and look forward to future stuff. Thanks for response 👍
Do you know the dimensions of the original battery. Looking to get one but wanna make sure it fits in the plastic housing. Much appreciated
I'm sorry I don't, I haven't touched it sins making the video. I always keep it disconnected when storing and it seems to be fine still.
How do you enlarge it, my image keeps coming up small.
It's been a while now but I put the projector at the distance I wanted and then set what they call the key (size of screen) to how I wanted it and it has stayed the same. It comes on large then shrinks to what I set it to once booted up.
@@danryan4997 Thank you. 👍
if you care about this engine, use different air filters. Watch a video by a RUclipsr who’s channel is called project farm. He tests effectiveness of different types of air filters, sifting flour into a box and sucking air through the filters, the filters that had the highest airflow rate, we’re K and N filters, they also Allowed 10 times more particulates to flow through the filter
Hi mate, watched this series with great interest. Really like what you did to accommodate the rear tire. Is it possible to replicate this i.e. do you sell any of the parts you've made? Cheers and happy riding
Hi Mate, oh great that you like the series. I don't, they are all one off parts that I had to bribe my engineer with money and plenty of biscuits to do for me.
@@danryan4997 a familiar process 😭. Thanks for responding and ride your machine in the very best of health!
Did you jump from 14" to 20" at what age each?! Thanks
He had the 14 probably from 3 to 5 the 5 to now for the 20.
Just found your channel,,cracking build so far
Thank you, its taking me a while but coming into the last stages now.
You spent some time and money on that build bro , looks the Dog's Nut's cant wait to see it finished 😎😎🤘🤘🇹🇭🇹🇭
Hello, the fork covers, how did you do them. Thank you.
That is f-ing beautiful, mate.
Really nice video, we will check out this Bike for our son soon and probably also get it. Great informative Video - thanks mate.
Thank you, we enjoyed making it and the bike is still going strong.
Again nice work. I seem to remember reading that these engines tend to develop cracks in the bottom end above a certain HP. I don't recall what that number is. You may want to research this. You've put in too much work to have it wrecked by having " Too much" fun.
Hi Ed, I did lots of research on these motors before starting the build and they are very bullet proof with many sidecar racers taking these to 880cc and higher BHP. My 744 will vibrate much less also than a stock engine as its rephased.
The details on your bike are top notch. Looking at your bike, I feel compelled to go for a brushed finish on my engine, sliders and cast wheels. It never really stops does it?
Thank you, for me when looking at anything intended to be nice the detail is what makes it for me. Yes the brushed look in my opinion gives it that high quality finish.
Very nice work! I love how you cleaned up the area around the battery box and what you did with the rear swingarm. I hear what you're saying about doing a job, re-doing it and then doing it again. I don't know how many times I've redone my wiring but I have to do it again.😊
Thank you mate, I'm really happy with how the battery box turned out. I did a few cardboard designs and kept testing for fit etc. I had one template made from steel, then the final one made with alterations and powder coated.
Nice! Like the details. Is there a build topic on some forum to follow?
Thank you, yes I'm well into the details and enjoy putting them together. Here and their you cand find parts of people's builds but mine is only on YT
Beautiful,attention to detail,hard work,my brother,and myself, are restoring,a xs2 650, 1972,to concours standard,attention to detail is paramount,your bike will look superb,regards,Mike, Derbyshire Mike,Derbyshire
Thank you Mike, much apriciated and I wish you and your brother well with your build.
That is one beautiful machine - I cannot wait to see the finished article. Gorgeous m8. 😍
Thank you. You and me both, its been a long road to get here.
Omg such a great build!!
Thank you :)
This bike is going to be amazing…
Nothing bodged on that bike, excellent work and attention to detail!
Big dollars on that bike !! Very nice build.
Cool build!
Outstanding build! May I ask what firm you acquired the fork shrouds from?
Really outstanding build! May I ask, where you acquired the ignition covers and the fork shrouds?
Thank you, Analog Moto for ign covers and Omega fork shrouds.
Beautiful work. So nice to be able to build engines at one's own pace. During the mid-seventies, when I was a 20-year-old 2nd-year pro and had just moved up to 750s from the 250s, I asked a well-known builder to put an engine together for me. The engine ran, but was down on power, so I started working on it myself. Upon inspecting the cases I noticed that he'd made two small holes in the oil gallery than runs through the front of the crankcase so as to allow oil to, I supposed, cool the pistons or to direct cool oil to the rods. Never had a chance to ask him about that, though. However, when Suzuki released the GSXR750 much was made about the 'piston cooling jets' that directed cooling oil to the undersides of the pistons, a practice that many others have now copied. Anyway, one more thing to ponder....
Thank you, the whole process has been a good and challenging experience.
If i send you mine can you have them sorted please
Few people are aware that the cylinder head design on the XS650 comes from the Toyota 2000 GT sports car, the engine of which was a highly modified Toyota straight six developed by Yamaha. (The car was featured in the James Bond flick shot in Japan, Dr. No?) The steel skull which forms the roof of the combustion chamber is also pretty trick, as it makes for stable valve seats and retains more heat (more combustion energy) than an alu combustion chamber would (not sure how much difference that makes though....). The engine is absolutely bullet-proof. I raced a Champion-framed XS on dirt tracks in the U.S. during the mid-seventies and never had an engine failure, nor did I ever see or hear of one letting go. That engine you built is a beauty! Re. the starter motor: one could fit the exhaust valve depressor used on the XS-1 to make it easier to turn over.
Thank you for sharing that information 👍 I had never heard of that car and what a lovely looking thing it is! I hope to have this build finished in the next few months and will have an update video soon.
I like it.👍As long as the motor is still torquey it should be great.
Oh yes, the whole engine setup is low end Tourqe biased
How about dry plate racing clutch!!???? Extra metal plate. Heavier springs. Open to the air. Takes extreme abuse.
Looking to build a "End of the World" motorcycles. No computer chips. EMP proof. Looking into your channel. ✌️😎👍
This was great!!!! Please keep up the great work!!!! ✌️😎👍
Have 3 XS's. (650s) Gonna make a 'real' street tracker/ cafe'/ and a scrambler. Pulling the engines apart through the winter. Got a lot in common. You have a subscriber! Gonna watch all your videos. ✌️😎👍
Just: Wow! Bought my new XS650 in '81. Still riding
Would you buy this same bike again or something different?
I would definitely buy again if the next size up is as good as this. Although the next bike he may want front suspension and these only come with rigid forks.
So you like RC cars too!🤔 maybe we can trade one of my RC cars for the bike 🤣
😄
One of the best Twins to come out of Japan.Lovely work!
Do you happen know an exact kick stand that will work with the Rip rock 20? I have no problem taking it off when we hit the trails, but for the standard neighborhood riding, it would be nice to have a kickstand on and would help take care of it. Specialized doesn't make one for the riprock 20 and I can't find an after market one that is compatible. Do you happen to know of an after market kickstand that would work?
Hi, I don't sorry, I understand though as you don't want them just chucking it on the floor. The bar ends are rubber so I just tell him to lean it by the bars or wheels.
Looking very nice indeed!
Coming on nicely very neat cant wait till its finished an running
Thank you, coming together quick now. So much effort went into the sub assembly's it seemed forever to get to this stage!
Hi, did you ever look into upgrading the motor/esc/battery?
Hi, no I never got around to it, in top speed setting its plenty fast for my 6 year old 😄
Looking good ,some great improvements, can not to hear it running . Richard
Hi Richard, thank you, in pt 8 I have the engine running in that video. The intro engine sound at the start of the video is the actual sound also.
@@danryan4997 ok thanks, I will watch that one 👍 I have got a xs 650 flatracker .
Super nice❤❤ Great work!!
