      @BikingChap 2 дня назад

      Hi, thanks for the kind words. The all do in varying degrees. The XCP pro stuff, especially the orange can, leaves more like a thin wax than an oily film so sure if you use it in a place when it’s getting hit with lots of road dirt when you’ve just applied it, it will pick up a lot of muck. That said the others will tend not to be so bad because, frankly, they tend to rinse off relatively quickly.

    I bought a 3 year old 17 plate with a thousand miles on for a ridiculously cheep price from a private buyer who didn’t like it . I had test ridden a manual adventure sport and really liked it. The one I bought was a dct. I thought that it was an even better deal as the dct was over a £1000 more new. I kept the bike for 2 years and in my personal opinion I really didn’t like the bike I absolutely hated the dct gearbox I found the bike was top heavy and a real pain to get in and out of the garage this actually put me off riding it . And I ain’t no wimp I’m 6” 2’ and 17 stone and work on the roads for a living. My previous bike a cb500x which I had for 6 months I did 5000 miles on. The Africa twin I did 2500 miles in two years. When I decided to get shot of it I was extremely lucky and due to the Covid scamdemic there was a bike shortage and a Honda main dealer offered to buy it off me for more than I paid for it. I bought another cb500x a newer but used 20 plate with a 100 miles on with every accessory you can imagine for £ 500 less than the new 2022 model that at the time was a 6 month waiting list due to Covid. I’ve had it now for 3 years and many miles. It’s time for a change and I’m looking at a mid range adv. I’ve tested a transalp and I’m trying a v storm 800de on Friday. I won’t buy a new one it will be used with accessories as I’ve only ever bought 1 new bike and will never do it again as the first hit of depreciation is something someone else can bare so many people buy new bikes spec them up to the max don’t use them then sell them cheap.

    Why didn't you test a waxoil product? Just the same products as the Bennet's guy tested.

    • @BikingChap
      @BikingChap 12 дней назад

      Hi, my budget was a little limited, I don't have the financial backing that Bennetts do I'm afraid, so I tried to pick a representative group of products that covered most bases and the popular choices in the UK. That said the commonly found Waxoyl product we have here is quite a heavy wax (compared to the heaviest I test) and while that would make it a top choice for swing arms and frames it would probably be a bit unsightly for more obvious areas let alone engines etc. I personally used the black version on a black swing arm to good effect and it was barely visible. Hope that helps.

      @@BikingChap I'm in the UK too. I'm definitely going with XCP since it's so much better than the others tested. But I'm interested in how the Jenolite brand stacks up against XCP as they have a very big range too, and also Tetroseal Waxoil which is proper stuff and commonly found.

    Fantastic review. Thank you. Did you consider the Yamaha Nmax at any point? I've heard it fits taller riders a bit better (I'm also 6'2). It's reportedly got better brakes as well, but the panels are thin and flimsy and overall build quality does not seem to match the Honda I've heard. But they say the engine is great and it's faster than the Honda. I was leaning towards the Nmax purely for the height concerns but if the PCX is fine for us at 6'2, then I think the Honda is better. Forza 125 and Xmax would obviously be ideal but they're much much pricier.

    • @BikingChap
      @BikingChap 13 дней назад

      Thanks very much for the kind comments :) It's very much personal preference. Performance wise I think it's had to split them but perhaps pulling away from a stop, around town say, the NMAX has a slight edge. What finally put me off the NMAX was that I heard a few people had worn pistons / barrels at relatively low miles and even a local delivery guy had a 2 year old NMAX that left a trail of smoke and sounded terrible. I could find no such horror stories with the PCX. In short if I was going to do lowish miles and sell once the warranty ran out I might have gone for the Yamaha but I wanted the scoot for a long time so went for the Honda, good luck and thanks!

    Thank you for the prompt reply. I appreciate your unbiased approach. About me, I own a 2019 Africa Twin (Standard). I purchased her brand new from a dealer in 2021. I am particularly concerned about the quality of the switchgear and the ignition switch. I don’t seem to have problems with any of the aforementioned components, however, I intend on taking a proactive approach. Currently, I’m in the information gathering phase. My primary focal point is my ignition switch as I have heard that internal corrosion is an eventuality. I’m exploring the possibility of using a spray on electrical cleaner followed by a lubricant. I’m hoping that periodically spraying a generous amount of both into the keyhole will do the trick. Regarding the switch gear. I’m thinking that I can open both the left and right handlebar units up and perform the same electrical cleaning and lubrication but from the inside. I’m hoping that doing so yearly as part of regular maintenance will do the trick. I’m curious about your thoughts.

    • @BikingChap
      @BikingChap 14 дней назад

      Thanks for reaching out. I know the switch gear, especially on the left side, can have issues where replacement was required but without researching I'm not sure what the reason for failure was. With regard to the ignition switch, firstly they're a lot cheaper to replace but better still you can invariably take them apart and restore / clean them. I had to do this on a previous Honda project and I bought some plastic grease, some contact cleaner / lubricant (Servisol Super 10), and some 'brasso' to clean the contacts. It took a little while to pull apart and put back together and I needed a 'security' screwdriver, but it's still faultless years later. Hope this helps :)

    I am so tempted to change one of my bikes for the NC750. Choosing between the manual and automatic version is more difficult than it may first appear. I like the engaging experience of a manual gearbox but I can't deny that DCT makes a lot of sense in urban areas. One thing that happened to a friend of mine who opted for the DCT is that he was moving the bike on foot while switched on and inadvertently gave it some throttle. His first reaction was to hang on to it in an attempt to control it ... big mistake! It just dragged him along with it and into a parked car. I guess there are times when you need the bike to stall. Great video!

      @@Censuwine thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. Sales have been split pretty evenly from what I’ve seen but the manual and DCT are very different beasts. It’s a very personal decision rather than one being ‘better’ than the other. Good luck!

    Nice review of an interesting bike. Unfortunately it is difficult to judge the drive limitations with regard to the rider posture . Nobody talks about that on internet. Are there any NC750 riders out there taller than 1.90m? What is their comfort experience? Any (serious) adjustment done with leveling up the seat? What is the max seat height realistically achievable with after market gear? Thx for your thoughts. Ron

      @BikingChap Месяц назад

      Hi Ron, thanks for the feedback. I'm around 1.9m and I'll be honest I didn't ever feel naturally comfortable on the NC, let me explain. I quickly found I was getting pain in my hips and while I could never be certain as to the cause I think it was a mixture of the slightly cramped peg to seat distance and that the seat rolled your hips forward. The bars, for me at any rate, were fine. What I think I would try is to lower the pegs and to adjust out the slope of the seat (along with some more padding). It wasn't the most uncomfortable bike I've had but it was certainly the only one to give me hip pain problems. I hope this help at least explain my experience. All the best, Jon.

    No one ever talks about how changing your exhaust could have major reduction in fuel economy. It’s been my experience over the years.

    • @BikingChap
      @BikingChap Месяц назад

      Hi Roger, that’s a really good point and, hands up, I didn’t check it. I have to say that because many modern bikes have a cat AND an initial silencer under the engine (the NC only has a cat) the rear can is often mainly for aesthetics and removing doesn’t make them massively louder, an MT-10 being a classic case. On these bikes I don’t believe just change the rest can will make much difference to sound, performance or economy. Where people replace the cat or cat a pre silencer then, performance can improve but absolutely fuel economy can take a tumble.

      Hi, ok easy question first, the engine is silky smooth, it really is, so no issues there. As to your height, I'm ok on it at 6'2", the lack of comfort after a while comes from all the weight being on your backside. I think the issue for you, especially if your height is mainly from your legs (I've a 32" inseam) will be your knees touching the handlebars as you turn. It's marginal for me and in the beginning I caught the left grip on my knee once or twice. If you can sit on one and with one foot on the board make sure your knee clears the bars when turned lock to lock you should be fine. Good luck!

    Can you share some details about the anti-rust treatment, what exactly have you used? I had a '22 PCX and the whole exhaust and backside was starting to look a bit bad after a winter of food delivery work. I sold it after 1,5 yrs and i regretted the decision so much i bought a new '24 model which im currently enjoying, i should put on some anti-rust on it. A few things i learned after 12,000kms on the '22 bike: The engine somehow breaks in at around 7-8000km, it will become noticeably smoother and more silent, also the fuel consumption will go down. From new it was around 2,4-2,5l at the pump, goes down to 2,1-2,2. I'm 1,90m and 110kg and i rode it very hard. The front brake pads were gone after 8000km, i paid 15 euros for a new set. I had a matte blue which started to look worn after awhile, rain, touching it when getting on/off etc, so this time i went for the pearl jupiter grey color, i also recommend the pearl white, they look like new after years and years while the matt colors will fade. It's amazing for the city, super nimble and economical, good enough for a commute on normal roads but i dont recommend it at all on the highway. I went for a test ride 200km away of pure highway and above 75-80km/h it just vibrates and revs too much, it can do 90-95 constantly but it hates it and you just battle it out with trucks at that speed, it was very annoying and not suited at all. Then on the way back i got a strong headwind and could barely get above 80 and the fuel consumption went up to almost 4,0l, that's what a tall rider in full headwind does haha. I changed the oil myself every 3000kms (twice as often as honda recommends) as it's just 1L, super cheap and easy, just one bolt thats easy to undo/screw back on. All in all ive had zero issues, aside from the fuel cap thing and holding my bluetooth earbuds in the same pocket as the key which made it not work for 5 minutes once. Also i found the underseat storage to be cavernous, can fit my flip-up helmet, combined with a handlebar hook for bags and a backpack and a topcase means i can do all my shopping with the little pcx, no need to start the car and get stuck in traffic, which is a huge time saver. It's also just 12hp but quite decent at running errands with my 50kg girlfriend on the back, it's not as quick but still very doable at city speeds, up to 60-70kmh. All in all an amazing product and it made me fall in love with the small economical scooter concept for the city.

    • @BikingChap
      @BikingChap Месяц назад

      Hi, thanks for the long and detailed comment. Firstly with regard to the anti rust treatment I used XCP Pro for the rear of the bike and that has worked well though it does attract making it look messy. Like any other of these products though this will be no use on the exhaust system and even after 1,500 mine is starting to corrode. For the exhaust I used a product like this previously www.demon-tweeks.com/uk/vht-flameproof-very-high-temperature-spray-paint-7000879/ and that proved far longer lasting that the factory paint. Like you I find it a really great option for just pottering around town. Where I do find it's limitation is on hills and there are many in my area. On hills I do find I hold normal traffic up but with a 350cc scooter costing £5,500+ I think the PCX is a great compromise, I just take my time and don't worry about any traffic behind me :)

      Absolutely and it’s so ridiculously easy on these I wanted to encourage people to have a go. It’s done around 1,600 miles and had its first service at 600 miles so the oil had around 1,000 on it. I thought it was quite dirty for such little use but it may still be bedding in. Certainly wouldn’t want that in there for thousands more miles.

    I have both models and I find it difficult to decide in favour of just the one. The simple handling Honda NC with the high-torque engine and the practical helmet compartment. Good, a little less power when overtaking. Very economical in consumption. The thoughts ? Decelerating riding and the thought that you really need more to ride a motorbike. Then the Honda CRF 1100 DCT from 2020 good chassis, the engine with some tractor character, enough power for everything with some weaknesses in the lower speed range not as strong as the Honda NC. I am still drawn to the Honda NC, perhaps out of habit and the great practical benefits. Besides this AT incredible handling and more power.but too much electronic gimmickry. Where is my way going ? feel like vohannes 🙃😀 I love to ride through German towns at 30 km without jerking on the NC that doesn't work so well with the AT CRF 1100 DCT

    • @BikingChap
      @BikingChap 2 месяца назад

      I get it. Most twins these days are fussy low down, probably down to emission limits and the NC, driving effortlessly from idle, does stand out as different. It's almost like an old school twin, a Guzzi almost. There's nothing else quite like it and good though the AT engine is, it just doesn't feel simply like a bigger NC.

      The NC engine is very different from the CB or Vstrom so make sure you get a test ride to see if it suits you.
