The sound of your Fender guitar sounds incomplete, as if the neck adjustment is off-key Squier sounds really good, its empty strings never sound missing

I have a DG20 and an SL20 set. Both are phenomenal. My Gibson SG is my go-to guitar, but only because of the weight and my bad back. And like you, I put them in Squier guitars. A Classic Vibe in black for the DG, and a red one for the SL.

Just bought a Sonic Strat , I've been playing for over 30 years and owned dozens of guitars , I can confidently say that my Sonic is the easiest playing and most fun to play out of all of them , would definitely encourage anyone to buy one 👍

Why on earth are you going to modify the Squier, it sounded better than that Black Strat, your gonna change the pickups, change the tuners, change the nut, etc so you're obviously not pleased with it, just leave it as it is, it sounds great, everyone seems to want to change everything, by the time you've spent all that money on parts, you might as well have bought a Fender, I despair.

I love mine. I ended up putting a classic vibes neck and tuners on and changing the bridge to string thru body. Think it was a bridge off a fender Tom Delonge model lol. So much better!

would it not be easier for you to carve out a cavity underneath and cover it with a black plastic cover fitted with s couple of short screws for that battery? Then you would not have to actually take of the pickguard every time the battery dies... doesn't seem convenient to have it where you left it to be honest :\ I guess that pickguard is for Fender Strat, and that your guitar is not a Fender ? I would cut that plate flush, would have made me crazy to just leave it like that to be honest :) Hmm you said Squier, weird how it did not fit, but then again I had to drill holes for my Squier Affinity Headstock to fit Fender tuners so I guess they just do that on purpose! The Fender Strat neck fit right in though

Funny, I bought all my pickups and upgrades with my own money hehe 😀 What is that plate attacked to the pots? That looks like a plug and play system for when you want to change pickups to something that comes with connectors like that. Man the upgrades I've done has cost me a fortune though not gonna lie..

Fender Strat sounded cleaner with better note definition but considering price difference the Squier held up well. I have a Sonic Mustang HH. Pretty much full electronics swap including pups, pots and caps. Now running a humbucker sized Alnico 2 P90 in neck and Alnico 2 57 style PAF in bridge. Frets filed and polished as were a bit sharp and gritty, fretboard oiled. Some frets were choking out so adjusted height, intonation and truss rod. As a total beginner I hadn't appreciated how much luthier learning and effort was going to be needed. I love it now, versatile and characterful tones, smooth to play. Definitely bonded with it whilst overhauling it. Glad your Strat was no where near as painful as my Mustang was to get sounding right.

Any guitar that is comfortable to play and well set up is fine by me. I think it is largely preference on looks and feel that really set a guitar apart to an individual or feeling some connection to the instrument. My favourite bass for example is a parts jazz bass (made from some awful quality parts) not because it’s the best but because I know every nuance of that instrument and how to get the best out of it :D I have a custom shop p bass and I often pick my beater jazz over it.

First off, in no way am I bragging on what I currently own or have owned in the past. With that said, I have owned $3,000 strats and $3,000+ PRS’s $3,000 Gibson’s….. I currently play and prefer the HT Squier Strat with a custom neck. These guitars are absolutely fire. You need to know how to work on them and be comfortable modding and fully setting them up to truly enjoy them.

These are the kinds of comparisons that YT needs more of. Thank you.

I didn't know anything about Squiers. I came upon this used Squier "Standard" Srat. (not a "sonic") in a local music store. I loved it. The guy says "make me an offer". I had no idea what it was worth...so I said $240.00. Best two hundred and forty dollars that I ever spent.

I recently bought a surf green squire sonic strat and love it especially for $180. But recently I’ve been looking at the squire paranormal offset telecaster in Olympic white. I don’t know how it plays but it’s one of the best looking guitars out there

There is a trend happening with the reissue of the old Fender Sonic Series: a funky sound and great playability for less cash. This could be Fenders antidote to the decline of the guitar in popularity. Since the Boomers adopted the guitar as the voice of their generation...the generations just after the Boomers have not done the same. The guitar reigned supreme from 1958 thru 1985. Will the guitar do it again?
