Motorcycles and Microphones: 1972 BMW R75/5 Engine Recording
Просмотров 4512 месяца назад
This is a video of audio recordings of a 1972 BMW R75/5 motorcycle. This bike is in desperate need of a tune up. We already opened up the carburetor on the right side and discovered a broken carb needle, so maybe we won’t need to do too much. 🤞 You’ll also hear some clanky transmission sounds as the transmission is in need of some mechanical attention as well If there are any other sounds from ...

Motorcycle ASMR?!? Yes please. Today we are testing out the Zoom H4n essential field recorder with a wind deflector on a 2019 Triumph Scrambler 1200XE motorcycle. We'll first test static (non moving) recording and then we'll gear up and do some action recording. Final thoughts: the recording is perfect on take off and at speeds under 60mph, anything over 60mph the wind noise starts to overpower...
Motorcycles and Microphones: watch as I try to capture the perfect motorcycle sounds.

Motorcycle sounds are music. Some music sucks, and some music is like mana from heaven. Today we explore a few ways to capture sound, through a field mic, video mic's, studio mics. And we get creative with some ways to kill wind noise...like a dead cat. Or a Fasthouse moto glove, if you're feeling MacGyver-y. Experimentation leads to enlightenment...so let's take a look while I attempt my first...

Another silly little video I whipped up for the kiddos and the kids at heart. This surprise motorcycle is G-I-A-N-T!! The biggest of its kind!! For some SEO purposes, skip the rest of the description if you want to avoid spoilers. Production Notes: This video is about a 2021 BMW R18 First Edition. 1802cc engine that is the biggest twin boxer engine of it's kind. Shot on Sony A6400, GoPro Hero 8...

Moto Vlogging...in the dark on the BMW R18
Loved. Two cylinders to dominate them all....
Fun fact: EVERY company that tried to make rotary motorcycles using the motor in this either died or just barely avoided death
Did you watch that @fortnine episode with this motorcycle?
@@MotherMotos yep
Yeah, only suzuki survived
Looks like a lovely old bike. I have a 90/6 myself
How does it ride?
It’s a museum piece at the Lane Museum in Nashville, TN. You can find a Fortnine video of him riding it on RUclips. m.ruclips.net/video/-3HBAvkc4a0/видео.html
Its a rotary engine
Obviously, it's a bit fluffy. That said, it still sounds great. Music to my ears, actually. Those top ends were always noisy. You might quieten this one down a bit, but if you can't hear it, you've done something wrong, especially so in the warmer months. The gearbox does sound a bit clunky, even for one of these. You might find that you can shift more precisely, post tune. You also might find that a disgruntled Massey Ferguson owner wants his gearbox back! I've ridden a K100 that was just as bad and then some. My mate's Moto Guzzi is exactly the same. At the end of the day, that's one fine looking bike that you have. I am envious as all get out. Give it love! You deserve it!
This machine is awesome when it’s tuned right. And it’s amazing that when one thing isn’t tuned right it domino effects some other things. New jets and some carb parts are on order and hopefully that will get it right. We had a K75 for a bit and loved it, but yes, clunky gear boxes are the norm with these bikes it seems. But doesn’t keep us from riding them! 🏍️💨👍
@@MotherMotos It does sound like your carbs have seen better days. If parts don't entirely sort it out, spoil yourself and just buy brand new ones. If you do go that route, make your you keep your old carbs for jetting references. My mate replaced the well worn out square bore Dellortos on his '73 Guzzi a while back and it ran like new, afterward. Jetting was a PITA and he did have to seek a professional to sort that out, that's why I keep your old carbies. Another friend of mine had a K75. He rode that thing like a GP bike. With a whopping 350,000 km on the clock, it still ran like a Swiss watch. But yes, the transmission, not so much so. Good luck with your project. If per chance you do get sick of it, please send it to Australia. They're pretty rare here, these days, and that is one of my dream bikes. Green, I am.
Nice!🎉 Imagine no 4cyl., Watercooled... Ah!, Bikes w/ soul!
🏍️💨👍
great idea, can't wait til the tuned version! Really nice filming and everything, looking great!
Thanks! Ordering parts this week and should have it tuned soon! 🏍️💨👍
i subbed because of the title
slip a plastic bag over your sock, before you put it in the shoe. It will block the wind, and keep you feet dry.
No matter how hi viz your gear is or how loud your pipes are remember, ride like no one sees or hears you. By the way love the videos
Agreed! Thanks! Working on some new content. 👍
can someone tell me if this is a rotary motor ... kinda looks like one
Yes! The Wankel!
Thank you for your video you completely help me with my issue of not wanting to buy from Teemu but definitely not going to pay $200 for a pair of overalls so now I'm going to buy just the overalls from tmu and then you and I can go ride someday
I didn’t want to buy Temu but also didn’t want overpriced dirt bike gear I know I’m going to get dirty. Temu is risky and who I bought from might not even be the same as what is on Temu now.
That $250 is hard to justify... Being an occasional rider.
For sure!! I’d rather wear riding pants and a jersey tbh.
That’s a neat perspective. Is this the BMW?
It’s the 1972 BMW toaster tank. 👍
That looks fun! Where is that?
Iron Mountain in north Georgia.
You're wrong the state of Georgia requires a 25,000 bodily injury insurance learner's permit or license you have to have insurance!
Avesome recording of the sound. I would like to ask you what configuration are you using on Zoom H4N
I haven’t played with any configurations yet, this is just straight out of the box recording. We do have some plans to add mic set ups to the Zoom so that will be in some later vids. 👍
@@MotherMotos Thanks for your response! I'll stay tuned for other videos!
bMW has not recalled the bike in your area to stop the renverse function until they upgrade it ?
Had over 10,000 miles on this bike, no issue w/ reverse. Not sure about the recall, sold the bike back in December 2023.
Thank you for the detailed explanation. Ill be subscribing to your channel. ❤
This is so satisfying to watch
That’s where I camped a few years ago 😭
It’s a good spot!
I don’t think your theory is correct about the manufacturer reselling trash product. Chinese companies are knocking off quality American products and selling them “as” the real thing. If you compared them side by side with the real thing, I think you’d be surprised at the differences. Sometimes the differences are obvious like the gloves, sometime it’s hard to tell. But the point is, every time someone chooses a product on Temu instead of buying the real thing, they are supporting patent/copyright thieves.
Yep you’re right. But until I have $200+ to spend on the real ones, these ones are getting tested on the trails. They are a little warm for summer time so they are on the back burner for testing. I’m not a big fan of Temu and think they along with TikTok Shop needs to go. If you know where I can go and bring my “knockoffs” to compare (cycle gear maybe?)
@@MotherMotos I was going to buy some during Fasthouse’s latest sale, but they sold out so fast. I saw your video and thought maybe I’ll just get some in here and see how they are. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet though. Cyclegear has them listed on their site so maybe! It would be an interesting comparison, it would make a great video.
Did these not have the leather patches on the inside of the knees?
No leather on these.
they dont want us being able to buy bidenomics gas for 5 bucks and getting 114mpg
"May not use limited access highways or other roadways where the minimum speed limit is above 35 mph." only roads i know where there is a minimum speed limit is the interstates. all speed limit signs are just the zones rated maximum. which im doing 40.
ps. this its any road with a minum ristricted speeed greater than 35.
I agree. I currently am being harassed by one cop twice now for impeding traffic.
Do these have stretch material?
Stretch on the straps and a little bit on the back. I rode in them all day for an enduro event and they were great.
@@MotherMotos this is what I was curious about. Real riding feedback.
Can you please share your height and weight! Thank you!
Hey! 5’5” and about 150lbs. Usually wear a size medium. 29” waist.
By far the best bike ive ever owned is the Zero SRF the grin factor is of the scale
I need to ride one again. I think I like the DSR the best. I’m a fan of plush suspension though.
I'm on a 2019 too and am just on the other side of the mountains in Tennessee. Sorry about the leak. I bought mine in 2020 used and have put about 10k on it. I've ridden it pretty aggressively on and off road, and it's been a beast. Only problem I've had, which I caused, was I broke off the menu thumbstick when I went down while riding off road. You can't replace that piece...have to buy the entire control collar, which was about $180. Bought a $15 tool required to swap them out, and after much cursing, took it back to the dealer and paid them $100. ...so an almost $300 whoopsy for a little thumbstick. Check with a non-dealer repair shop if there are any near you that work on imports to get a second opinion or a second quote. Not moto related but we just work done on my wife's Subaru and it was 1/3rd the price quoted by the "steal" ership. I haven't seen a lady rider on an XE live or on RUclips, but I ride with a lot of adventure bike riders on all makes, and though the seat height is tall, the overall bike is sleaker and shorter than most adv bikes. I look forward to more of your experiences on the Scram. If you ever come towards the Smokies and want to try some good but not too challenging gravel and dirt roads, I can make some recommendations.
We are keeping an eye on what they thought was a leak but the verdict is that someone used spray polish on the engine and it was like white grease. I’ll have to make a video about how some mechanics knee jerk when making a diagnosis. 😜 So, woohoo, expensive mechanic work avoided by just a little deep cleaning. That menu thumb stick is a delicate piece for its handlebar placement. Sorry you had to deal with that. My husband and I will be hitting up Gatlinburg area next month and spend some time around Cade’s Cove. Are you around that area?
350dollars for an oil change! 😮 Holy S$%t! There are so many videos on RUclips on how to make a service on your own on the scramblers, get a Haynes service manual and your golden, there is no rocket science about it, at that water leak that you mention, tell that mechanic that he is full of Crap, if it had a leak by now you would know, the motor would act funny, Beautiful bike and a very nice location where you ride btw.
Respect, i am trying in my garage and can only get a few seconds here and there, it's so exhausting.
Surprisingly harder to do in a garage! Tires in dirt give you a little more grip. Have fun with it!
@@MotherMotos for sure harder, I posted a video on my channel of me balancing in the grass, you should subscribe I'll be posting videos of the riding in my area soon.
I meant 390 not 900. So sorry
Hi Mother, I wonder how you compare this G310 GS to KTM 300DUKE. Best regards
You’d want to compare a 310 GS with a KTM 390 Adventure. The 390 Adventure costs more than the 310 GS but is fully equipped with all the bells and whistles. Are you wanting a strictly on road bike or some off road adv riding too?
I’d vote for the 390 A over the 310 GS.
Looks like it was fun
It was great! Good pace for new riders. If you have a chance to try it at Barber this year, do it!
Thanks for the review 🏍️

Kinda what we are going for!!! 🥳
They are partners wit KTM and sport mode is night and day from eco i have had my 700 sport for almost a year and i been pushing it to It's limits and is still holding up 0 issues so far
Yep. A few things about CF vs KTM that differ but it’s the creature comforts that you end up paying for. Engine is great. Seat and instrument panel not so much on the CF.
Agreed 👍 you can fins something not to like about with any bike though and for the price I really can't complain
@@christophersegura5599 definitely! Enjoy the ride! 🏍️💨
Why would you buy a Chinese bike lol why lol k why
I didn’t. I personally wouldn’t. It felt a little cheap. But they’re marketing hard in the US market.
Awesome ok. So stick to my Duke 200.
@@CaliDad619I’d stay with a KTM. India makes some amazing machines. But if you’re trying to make an anti-Chinese stance then you may want stay away from the KTM 790, it’s Chinese.
Keep both hands on the grips you’re asking for trouble
