Lindsay Walton, Professional Team Builder
Канада
Добавлен 13 авг 2015
Welcome to my sandbox! This is where I play, making videos about facilitation, my favorite team building tools, and otherwise just geek out about all things related to bringing people together and helping them excel in life together (seriously, no one should ever have to take on life alone). I'm especially excited about play-based tools because play is powerful. Play with purpose!!! And I'll be honest that this youtube channel is also a place where I challenge myself because I am terrified of talking to cameras. Hundreds of people in an auditorium? No problem. One camera? Terrifying! But I believe in doing things that scare you so this has been an opportunity for me to invest in myself and grow. Thanks for coming along on the ride and I hope you find something useful to you here!

Why Asking Donors For Money Causes Donors To Give Less
Просмотров 725 лет назад
Treating donors as members of a community rather than as individual units MATTERS! Traditional fundraising practices result in a terrible return on the effort put in because the fundraising campaigns are traditionally designed to gather one resource (money aka funds) when your donor community actually has six resources they want to share if you would only ask. Whether your organization is strug...

The Difference Between Conflict Management and Conflict Resolution
Excellent & very well spoken. Thanks. Would love to hear #2. I'm struggling with two rage-aholics 😢
Thank you for the video idea! Navigating rage is such a complex topic, but hopefully there is something here that helps. ❤ Please feel free to ask more questions or share your thoughts in the comments on other perspectives you think people need to consider. ruclips.net/video/n5XjRhzvudw/видео.htmlsi=rZ6bC2L5162IRz0o

#4 sometimes you cannot go to the source-when the source is abusive = brings more abuse.
That is an excellent point. There are times in life when the person we are trying to resolve a conflict with is abusive or otherwise dangerous in some way. If interacting with someone could lead to being harmed, wanting to harm them, or wanting to harm yourself, it is best to seek the help of someone who can assist in keeping everyone safe before initiating further discussions. This particular video focused on gossip is intended to address when people complain to others out of a lack of knowledge that speaking directly with the source of a problem is more socially constructive or complain to others because it is easier than facing the discomfort of having more direct conversations. I appreciate that you raised the broader concept of safety here. Conflict resolution skills are both simple and complex and built over time. Your comment helps to highlight the element of safety as a critical part of the process! Cheers!
Made it look so easy. Thank you very much. But I still hate these manikins
Ha! There are a lot of instructors who sympathize! It's such a distinct sound when a participant goes all out, drops their weight down extra hard, or rolls off the side of the chest and you hear that crackle of the joints coming loose. Or of the resistance coil enclosure cracking. So fabulously portable but also needs to come with a screwdriver and duct tape. :)
@@lindsaywalton hahahaha so true. I purchased the 12 pack when they first came out. I travel a lot, so it seemed they would work because they are so light, but the trade off of having to take it apart all the time is just not worth it.
2 minutes in and you still didn't explain anything except promote your linked in.
Hi Mel, thank you for commenting! At the two-minute mark I'm highlighting topics that I've addressed in greater depth in posts on LinkedIn including how to identify whether your non-profit is resilient or fragile, identifying if you have a Bare Bones or Spark plan in place (ie. Do you know how to take fears of closing your doors off the table for good), are you at risk of a class action lawsuit due to outdated legacy fund practices, etc. I'm definitely not promoting my LinkedIn (it's my least favorite platform :P), but it is where you can find critical information sooner rather than later as I haven't created RUclips videos on these subjects yet. If any of those topics are of particular interest to you, please feel free to let me know. I'm happy to prioritize content creation based on viewer interests! Cheers :)
Another WEF member I wouldn’t be surprised
Tiff Macklem is clueless. His ability to predict the future has been abysmal.
Far from, he knows what he's doing and what's ahead, by design
I think what you've noted is absolutely how a lot of people feel about Macklem's comments regarding interest rates and whether we're going to enter a textbook definition of a recession or not. That category of Public Relations speak (predictions/placating) is absolutely a lot of saying something while saying nothing and can make it look like the leader of a massive financial institution just keeps getting it wrong. What concerns me is that another role Public Relations plays is in regards to reduced liability, wording warnings in such a way that doesn't spark panic (so subtle the warning can be missed entirely), but also allows an organization to say 'we told you' or 'you were given warning', which is a game of liability. The fact that a Public Relations professional raised the *need to be prepared for a sharp correction* is notable. It's a different category of Public Relations speech. Predictions/Placating vs Now You're Liable, Not Us.
url is crazy 💀💀 N
Yes. The fact that removing part of the chain of steps leads to it going wrong.
Awesome great vid
Thanks , useful and wonderful video on facilitation
Very good! Thank you! This was all very insightful!
THANK YOU!

I don’t gossip, but I work with young children and I suspect that by making humorous observations about them, that I may have crossed a line that gives the impression to two other people that I am receptive to hearing gossip about other adults. This video makes it clearer that I have two important things I have to do; stop commenting on children’s “antics”, and intervene when two adults in particular at work, criticize other adults I have to work with. Thanks for the “how to” video. Big Help!
Thank you for this video it made it clear I'll keep this in mind
Omg🥺thank you so much I just realised I always participate in gossiping even without my knowledge. Most grateful for this video and I definitely will work towards having good and clean conversations about other things other than others
What do you mean by deedee? That you mentioned in the second point? Thanks
Glad you asked! I've encountered people of many faiths and referred to the Deity they believe in rather than referring to who they may follow specifically.
Very inspiringand beautiful.. you are amazing.. that's exactly what hope is.. I feel energetic and there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks Lislndsay.. keep up the good work 👏
Thank you I wanted clarity on this
Thank you! Sharing this with my high school students.
That's great! Hoping fabulous things happen for them and for the dynamics in class and the broader school. Cheers!
Thanks good one
Thank you! This cleared up so much for me. I’ve been hurt by gossip numerous times, but it’s also all I’ve known growing up. This has helped me differentiate sharing from gossip. Thank u
Im a Christian and I want to thank you as you have helped me following the Lord better
Woow I will try this
Thank you, I had just emailed Prestan when I thought to check on here. I knew there must be an easy save since still had the prongs. Thanks again.
Now l know why people talks about sports
I really do only have other people to about.... sigh
But if you consciously recognize that, it means you can do something about it! Make a point of making your life and what you think about more interesting. Pursue the things in life you are curious about and you'll be able to talk about new ideas and skills and places, all that have to do with what You are up to. I think you have some fabulous new adventures ahead of you <3
What if you don’t know WHO to speak to DIRECTLY?
That's a really good question. Sometimes expressing your boundaries and expectations out loud to others in general helps to put a stop to things when you don't know the specific source of a particular problem. When people in your circle simply hear you express, for example, that you expect people who have an issue with you to speak with you directly about the problem, the unknown source can end up changing their behaviour as a result when word reaches them, putting an end to anonymous notes being left taped around the office. We often create change in others' behaviour by changing our own and it's nice to know that we can trust that process when we have no idea who to approach directly to start a constructive conversation. I hope that helps. If I've misunderstood your question please feel free to let me know and I'll see what else I can share.
@@lindsaywalton Good. Thanks Lindsay.
Im here since i just had a break up with a very valuable friend. And i feel so fucking guilty and never ever going to do it again.
Thank you so much for your time and providing this review!…Have you read anything from John Maxwell?? I would like to know your opinion of this book against the leadership messages from John Maxwell
The name John Maxwell doesn't ring a bell. I'm always happy for recommendations and will look into him! Any particular book(s) you would say are priorities to check out?
@@lindsaywalton hey Lindsay! Thank you so much for your generous reply and offering! Well; it’s a big book but you could check out www.goodreads.com/book/show/815716.The_21_Irrefutable_Laws_of_Leadership Or maybe a short one called How successful people think; it can be read in an hour.
just came across your channel. I just realised that I am an active participant in gossip and I always land in trouble. From now on I'll remember this question so that I'll not get involved in this kind of situation. thank you so much for this valuable information for sharing. subscribed to your channel. Love from India.
Stop gossiping for oneself is great self development. Love it.
1. Shut the hell up 2. Refuse to give an affirmative 3. After second-hand, less 1/4 the truth 4. 'trust-worthy' means lying if you leave first 5. Be blunt or, brutally, blunt. --play answer machine, don't check *Gloss v gossip -> eye catch, eye lock Intimacy problems are not laughing fun. "Or or whore" 6. Don't tell people what you're interested in. Kporwer soap notes
I speak the truth no gossiping because gossip is painful for everybody...nobody needs this ,it only holds people back.....if somebody needs to vent because people are hurting them or have hurt them or are continuing to hurt them....that's different....see if you can strategize a way to get them the help they need...weather it be a new place to live away from threatening neighbors or a church group to help them feel more protected in there inner circle...dont think they are crazy for acting scared or feeling anxiety and crying....they are hurting .....be compassionate...I'm sure if this was you needing help they would do there best to help you and your family.......God bless😇❤❤❤❤
Thank you
Such a great video 👍🏾
The best way to stop gossip is in its tracks. A lot of hard feelings and misunderstandings could be prevented if people didn't repeat everything they hear.
Thank you so much, You are the best
Bravo. I 'hope' to see much more.
Thank you very much Lindsay Walton, this video is very insightful and I will definitely put it to good use at my workplace.
This clown actually thinks u can say this robotic shit in person
I am thinking about 1 simple anti-gossiping tool. Make a team agreement that if anyone wants to share some information about a team member then that member has a right to hear it. So, basically they get cc’d into the conversation.
The idea of creating a team agreement is an excellent one! It sounds like you already know about the concept, but if you would like to learn more you can Google how to create a team contract, full value contract, or group charter. These are all common names for that process of inviting everyone to say what they want and need in order to feel like their work/school/etc is a safe place to be. The facilitator can specifically raise the subject of gossip and ask what the group's expectations are on the subject. On a side note, I'm glad you mentioned email! The BCC function is for newsletters only, but many people use it to blind copy someone on an email which allows them to share private information without other people on the thread knowing, which is a great way to have situations blow up. The CC function ensures everyone sees exactly who is participating in the conversation and seeing the email contents which supports the healthiest problem solving and team dynamics.
