    My 6 year old grandson and I just watched this. His comment was, “It looks so peaceful to ride on the train,” this coming from a child who’s flown multiple times. I took the train recently from Ottawa to QC and my sister recommended upgrading to Business. Thank you for recapturing that experience. I live in TN and look forward to an encore.

      Thank you very much for your support. I hope one day your grandson can be a rail fan too 😉 Train travel in North America was once synonymous with majestic views and exceptional service. Although passenger train service in the US and Canada has suffered greatly since the advent of the jet age. It's always a relaxing and stress free way to travel. There are still the many long distance lines with breathtaking views, whether in the USA with the California Zephyr or in Canada with The Canadian. Perhaps one day you could invite your grandson on a coast-to-coast train journey where he will experience the peace with his own eyes rather than through a screen 😇

    Thx for the video. Do you like or dislike the PE hard shell seat? I am trying to learn from others' experience before i book China Airline.

    • @NotYourAvgTravel
      @NotYourAvgTravel 3 месяца назад

      If you can reserve the first row of PE, that could be fantastic. Otherwise, it is a soso product on planes in general (not just with China Airlines). The main problem is not the seat, but the seat pitch. The seat moves forward and compresses your leg space. The only exception is the front row, which is why I asked if you could find an available seat in the front row. That being said, I've also seen many hard cases with a "correct pitch" that provide a great experience. However, most of them are on trains and not planes, where seat spacing is not a big issue.

    Very good reporting. I’ve been flying this route in PE to Bangkok so many times for years that I lost counts. Overall, very comfortable seats, very clean, very good service, and pretty good food. I particularly love the hard shell seats which preserve my personal space. If you’re unfortunate enough, like I’ve experienced many times, on EVA for example, to have a jerk (jerk because he/she would not adjust their seat even at dinner/breakfast time) sitting in the row before yours extending his/her seat back all the way that it is almost in your face, you will appreciate how important your personal space is. I understand that it may be uncomfortable for really tall people, but you will have to get use to how to handle the seat setting. I’ll choose the hard shell absolutely any time over the other classic way. To each his own. Japan airlines, among others, has the same hard shell seats in their PE section, which I very appreciate.

    Interesting. I thought LRC trains had been replaced with more modern ones a long time ago. Via Rail have announced brand-new trains for this year if I'm not mistaken. I'd prefer that you include a voice narration with optional sub-titles, rather than just on-screen text that can't be turned off.

      Via Rail has just unveiled a special livery with the 18th Siemens Venture delivered. This means, out of an order of 32 trainsets, 14 are still in production (or not yet delivered). Thus, LRC will still be used along with HEP cars on some routes. www.trains.com/trn/news-reviews/news-wire/via-rail-canada-unveils-specially-painted-corridor-trainset/ For my videos, I prefer to keep my anonymity. I always wondered why Via doesn’t have food in the lounges. It wouldn’t make sense if it’s because they give you meals on the train because Amtrak does the same but they have food in their lounges

      I think it is a budget or a service policy issue. Via don't have that much business traveler compared to the Amtrak NEC. So, I guess for Via Rail, fruit and granola bar is enough as there's will be a meal on board.

      Montreal Central station is fully underground. So, there's many entrances. The access by car will be via 895 de la Gauchetiere West. Otherwise, by foot there's an entrance at the corner of Mansfield St & René-Lévesque Blvd W, 800 René-Lévesque Blvd W or many underground connection with Place Ville-Marie and Bonaventure metro station.

    I just took this exact flight last week - Montreal to Atlanta on a 717. I was curious about this aircraft because I think this is the first time I've flown in one. No IFE, even in First Class? We did get a "bistro meal" though, which was sufficient for a flight that short. Funny thing, you think of Montreal as being really far away (from Atlanta) yet the flight is somewhat shorter than a flight to Denver which I have made many times.

      MD-95 is quite an old plane and I think Delta simply don't want put too much money on these old short haul planes as they are about to be replaced by A220. I'm happy to hear that the service standard is now back to the normal.

Via Rail trains have a luggage rack for a larger bag at the entrance of the car and for smaller idem, you can store them in the overhead bin. The only complain that I have with Via Rail is the speed. Back in the 90s, Toronto-Montreal took only 4 hours, while with the modern day Via, it is now more than 5 hours. If Via Rail wants to be actually more competitive and more appealing. Then, it should be at least faster than driving not the same speed.

    That's actually really strange about them compensating you on flight in economy that doesn't offer meal service. Those flights don't get meals in economy and I'm not sure even in F. It's only a 2.5 flight. You got the service to be expected on such a flight. You got this way wrong somehow. The 717 doesn't even have ovens.

      It is great only if people drink reasonable. Unfortunately, in every lounge, you can always find a few passengers go beyond their limits just because the alcohol is "free". Nevertheless, I do believe that 99% of the people in lounge are just here to enjoy their rest no matter they come in with a first class ticket or credit card perks.

    Thanks for the video and commentaries. My main concern is the fixed hard shell seats that don't recline. Rather, the seat cushion slides down and out, but your head remains somewhat upright (the headrest doesn't usually slide down at the same angle), which can result in an uncomfortable position, especially for sleeping. Was that a problem for you? Was your head not aligned at the same angle as your body when the seat cushion was fully "reclined"? Was it awkward or uncomfortable for you to sleep?

      You are absolutely correct about this problem. The fact that headrest don't move will eventually put pressure on your neck during the flight. I think it is also the main reason why no one likes slide forward seat. My solution is to reserve a window seat so you can rest your head against the inner wall of the aircraft.

      @@NotYourAvgTravel I hate hard shell seat for the reason that you said that it sacrifice leg room. Moreover, since the seat (the portion where your butt is) just slide, but no tilt, you tend to slide when you "lean" the seat down. ANA has the same thing. My flight from LAX to Tokyo was codeshare between ANA and American. From LAX to Tokyo, American premium economy was the tile style so it was comfortable. From Tokyo back to LAX was this hard shell seat, and I had a hard time sleeping. EVA Air is a non hardshell seat, so it's better.
