Improvisation Experiment N° 8 // Music Box & Kalimba
This is a completely improvised musical experiment, recorded in a single take with no planning. (Thus, my apologies for the haphazard framing.) I am using the arpeggio sequencer on the Teenage Engineering OP-1 Field to control the Music Box with MIDI over BLE. The amplified kalimba is being processed through the TX-6 Field Mixer, also by Teenage Engineering.

The first patch on my Voltage Research Laboratory from Pittsburgh Modular. This patch mostly involves non-traditional interactions between the two oscillators and some Frequency Modulation Ring Modulation. The texture and arpeggio at 3:30 is a direct result of that modulation.

I'm a white guy from Canada. I have visited Rwanda maybe twenty times. It will be the country I live out my years. The most exciting country in the world.
The "Million Voices" song was a sound track for a movie called, hotel Rwanda which gave the whole sneak peek into the Rwandan genocide of 1994 between Tutsis and Hutu tribe in the country. But the song in a sense speaks to the whole of Africa to rise up and unite; put an end to ethnic bigotry.
