Leica R 35mm f/2.0 vs. Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 BMPCC6K – vintage vs. modern lens
Hi guys,
we had some spare time and thought we’d compare the good old Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 with the legendary Leica R 35mm f/2.0 (30xxxx).
The Leica has a really nice balance in terms of sharpness. It really gives your footage a unique and more “film like” character.
In some shots, I think the bokeh of the Sigma is even smoother than the Summicron R’s. The Leica leans more towards green and the Sigma more towards magenta (which I don’t like as much haha).
What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
Color Grading: I just applied a CST in Davinci Resolve and converted the footage to Rec709. I didn’t touch anything else.
Camera: Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K
Codec: BRAW 8:1
Export: ProRes 422...

BMPCC6K + SMC Pentax-M 28mm f/2.8 | Lens test on a trip to Metz, France
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.2 года назад
Hi there, one of our short films was shown on a german/french film festival in Metz and during that trip we shot some B-Roll with my BMPCC6K and an SMC Pentax-M 28mm f/2.8. You can get that lens for 50-70€ on ebay. Overall I think it is pretty hard to find a lens that is this nice in build quality and performance for such a small price. The best thing about the Pentax are the colors in my opini...
Pentax SMC K 55mm f/1.8 - fantastic vintage lens for your modern foto- and cinema camera

Hi there, in this video I am talking about the Pentax SMC 55mm f/1.8 (Pentax K). It is a great vintage lens and still very cheap with really outstanding vintage characteristics. Watch the video to find out about how it compares against a modern lens and why it is such a great value option. If you have any questions, ask me in the comments. Hi guys, in this small clip we want to share our thoughts on the overwhelming possibilities you have, when buying a new camera - spoiler alert: sometimes less is more... Moment Cinebloom 10% vs. Tiffen Black Pro-Mist 1/8 - various lighting situations!
Просмотров 36 тыс.3 года назад
Hi guys, in this video we compared two diffusion filters with each other: the moment cinebloom 10% and the Tiffen black pro-mist 1/8. In terms of “blooming” and sharpness reduction the moment seems to be somewhere between a pro-mist 1/8 and a pro-mist 1/4. The Tiffen holds the contrast much better (or more), especially the blacks. Also, the moment is more visible, but not to a point where it fe...

Fantastic lens for the BMPCC6K - Canon 17-55 f2.8 IS
Просмотров 8 тыс.3 года назад
Hi guys, I just got my own BMPCC6K with a Canon 17-55 f2.8 IS. We went out and (of course) did some testing. I was surprised at how nice the Canon lens actually looks. Of course i will do some more testing and an in depth video about the 17-55 - but so far: the image quality is really nice. Compared to the Sigma 18-35 it is less sharp (but still really sharp), less contrasty (maybe a little too...
That Leica R 90mm looks fantastic!
Спасибо за видео)
Great tests! Thanks!!!
Genialer Vergleich!!! Danke!
Just amazing, thanks for this video!
Thank you!
No nonsense, perfect comparison! Great video! I’m insta-subscribed!
amazing comparison
Thank you, first time I've seen nearly all the prized Zuiko f2.0 from 21mm and upwards what I have. By the way, Zuiko f2.0 is not anymore a budget option. Paid about $ 400 for mine, but the eBay prices have skyrocketed in the last few years from US 2500 to 7000.
A lot to unpack. I was really surprised by the FD. The 35mm FD! The OM 21mm F2.0 @2 I thought it looked great. I like a German stuff but nothing really jumped out at me has been spectacular. Leica R is expensive.
the Tiffen 1/8 just looks expensive, its the only bloomfilter id hardstuck on a production without having the feeling to overdo it.
Well done
Sehr gutes Review vielen Dank!
What camera did you use for real world footage with sigam 18-35?
Excuse me, but what`s the reason to compare lenses with such a different focal and aperture? There is similar to Canon lens Sigma 17-50mm F/2.8 EX DC OS HSM, just a litle bit shorter in focal, but with exactly same aperture as Canon EF-S 17-55mm F/2.8. That would be fair comparison.
Canon lenses look SO good on the sunlight
Everything I’ve read says the 10% is comp’d with the 1/4th. Not 1/8th.
Thats right. The time I made this video the 5% wasn‘t available yet. Also, the 10% seems to sit in the middle between 1/8-1/4. This is interesting for people that feel like a 1/4 is already too strong.
Can i use this lens with sony a7iii? Help pls😅
Yes :) you will need an adapter though
Thank you so much for doing this!!!!
Is th autofocus working with this lens on the BMPCC6K ?
Thank you for the superb comparison. Do you think the slightly lower sharpness of the Canon is a good substitute for something like a Cinebloom or Black PronMist filter? Or do you think such filters still have a place on such a lens?
Thanks for watching! I think they have a place but the lens already seems pretty balanced :)
I have a question, there are two varients of this 28mm lens. One with silver ring and other without, which one are you using here?
This is really good. Thankyou
Hey, does the Zuiko 50mm f2's front element rotate while focusing? IE would a matte box spin if one was screwed on.
It does not rotate:)
@@szenenschmiede Thank you !!
Well done comparison, I appreciate the different times of day and angles you used as well as inside and outside. Exactly what I was looking for 🤙🏼
Bro thx doc the video . I have a question , do u use here some filters on the lens ?) ND or smth different ?)
No worries :) yes, a Nisi IR Cut ND (Variable)
@@szenenschmiede Thx, its too expansive for me xd maybe I'll find smth for my budget )
@@temirlan999 try the ones from K&F :)
Really appreciate you taking the time to make this video. I have a Leica R 35/2 V1 (thinking of upgrading to v2) and the Sigma 18-35. I actually prefer the bokeh / oof area on the Leica R. I like the 'pingy' bokeh of the branches. For me the last shot says it all. The subject separation from the Leica R vs the Sigma is real. I heard it is the luck of the draw when it comes to the tint / temp of the Leica R since they vary due to the coatings. I personally don't like the pin flare but I prefer the Leica R flare over the Sigma in this case for sure.
I think I like the Sigma better, the Leica is a bit too green for me. But overall they seem pretty close to me
The green tint can be corrected in post The Leica's have a more pleasing image for me. The perfect blend between focus and sharpness (with a modern but also vintage look), whereas the Sigmas are just sharp The Leica's make him look like he's actually part of the image with a unique characterness vs the Sigma; looks like he's just slapped on top of the blurred background
The Sigma is adding a lot of magenta to the image , i have the 35 and 50 1.4 art and they both are adding magenta to the image, no surprise here with this 18-35 ...
Remember- lens don't change color in a creative way- but they sometimes have a slight tint, that is what you are seeing here. A correct white balance would remove any green tint you are seeing.
🙌🙌🙌
Good afternoon, 17-55 is the crunch of the stabilizer and autofocus strongly audible during video shooting?
Good afternoon, is the crunch of the stabilizer and autofocus strongly audible during video shooting?
Is this with a speed booster? Or straight? 28mm x2 =56 mm Full frame equavilent?
The crop factor on the 6K is 1,56. so: 28x1,56= 44mm roughly
But U havnt ralk about silent autofocus in 1755 mm
I love mine Leica R lenses on mine GFX. The colours are incredible and often the sharpness is as good as a modern GF native lens
They are really nice indeed 🔥
I really like my Leica R's on my S5. I need some wider lenses though. The widest I have is a 50mm Summicron...
a lot of people swear by the cinebloom but I don't thin I'm really a fan.
In my opinion, hardly any other lens brings so much charm to the table. I initially had it on a Sony a7 II, but now only use it on the Fuji X-T1 - in combination with the camera's sensor, I get goosebumps at times.
What film profile did you use??
BMD Film :)
They were the biggest selling cameras/lenses back in their day by a long shot. Consequently, the abundance on the used market keeps their prices in line.
Great comparison video. Thanks!

yes!
Thank you Max! Really appreciated this. 1/8 BPM for me.

Something interesting to know as well... The Sigma is not weather sealed, but somehow "sealed" to make dust etc harder to enter the inside of the lens, the Canon is 100% unprotected, by far the worst dust pump i ever had and i had already a lot of lenses from super cheap to more professional grade.
Skin tones on the Leica R are better on almost every lens.
Shoot on 6k or 4k?
6K :)
@@szenenschmiede do you think it's worth taking it for 4k camera? i mean 17-55? feeling that the sharpness is not enough for this resolution...
@@user-mp9uv1bj3k I use it on the R7, downsampled from 7k to 4k (4k fine setting) its looking very good. Sure its missing a bit sharpness compared to a sharp prime or macro lens but i would rather say 6k+ is unnecessary for this lens, but 4k is just fine for wide open aperture. For 6k you better use F4 or F5.6 I also tested a 16-35 2.8 full frame lens on the R7 and the 17-55 was NOTICABLE SHARPER than the 16-35 at least, but yeah its an old FF lens of the time where 12MP was considered high resolution. I would not care about the sharpness of this lens too much to be honest, especially not for video! More interesting problem at photos shot at 2.8! I use it sometimes even for wide angle astrophotography when i dont have my manual focus primes with me (with only bad looking corner stars due CA, not sharpness)
@@harrison00xXx thanks for remembering me, lol, now i have fuji with fringer adapter for canon, as an option in the future I planned to take bmpcc4k, there really is no oversampling as far as I know. thank you
@@harrison00xXx hello ! i have the same Canon R7 with the 16mm f2.8 but still thinking to buy this 17-55mm , do you think is better than the 16mm f2.8? autofocus sound, stabilitation works fine ? need your help! haha
I use the 18-35. I never have to re-balance if I change the focal length on my Glidecam.
Great side by side, thank you!
This video is awesome! Thanks for sharing some high quality footage! So whats the verdict in your opinion do the leicas live up to the hype? They seem a little too clean relative to superspeeds? But relatively affoardable.
I also saw that you have the Super Takumars (correct)? I have them and I don’t really like the color rendition and vignetting and different color shifts between my set. You think it’s worth it to upgrade to the leicas?
Hi man! Thanks a lot :) I actually can't compare them to super speeds as i have never used them. I wouldn't call Leicas "clean" although out of the vintage lenses they look kind of modern but not in a bad way, i think they are just very versatile so you can use them for every project. they are definetly overhyped in my opinion although i am the guy that owns the leica set, my friend owns the fds and olympus lenses. I gotta say that every set has it's unique look and i would not call a set better or worse, just different. That being sad, the leicas are really (REALLY) nice lenses :D. There are some leica lenses like the 35f2 which is insanely nice obviously and totally worth the money imo. Oh and: I used to have a couple of Pentax SMC-M lenses which are really nice for getting into the vintage lens game because they are still so cheap and produce a very nice and retro image. In this case i have to say, that the fds, oms and leicas play in another sphere though.
