The A595 trunk road in Furness will soon be changing. Here we take a wee drive-through the current road path before it all changes - just as a visual record of what it was like.
Often things can change, and in a year or two one can be hard-pressed to accurately describe and convey what it used to be like. I hope this video will help us all with that. As we drive through, I highlight a few historical landmarks that may pass the casual traveler by.
This video is not really entertainment, more of a time-stamped record of how the land lay (literally) before the forthcoming changes are ...

Thanks for this...its my 'patch' at work i love this area. Hooe youre well, been a lack of vids of late. Thanks again
@@stuartunderwood4577 Thank you kindly Sir, I am well with plenty of footage in the can so to speak. I hardly know where to start on it all, maybe over the winter? Kind regards.
Hi, I dont know if this info is of any use to you after 4 years but that's not snail tracks on the leaves it's actually a worm tunneling through the leaves. They are called Leaf Miners. (Link included) I cant help with identifying what the plant actually is but my Grandma had a vine that looked like that, it produced weird spikey fruit that looked like Lychee's. The spikes were very fine, see-through, and extremely painful if one stabbed you. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leaf_miner
Thankyou kindly Sir. Another contributor suggested it may be a melon plant. Kind regards.
That whole wall is a mess and needs complete renovation. Grind up the red brick clippings to duct, to blow onto wet motor if you face up the spalled bricks with mortar. Better to dig out and replace tho.
In due course I intend to grind out the beds, replace the spalled bricks, then repoint using lime mortar. Thank you for taking the time to comment. Kind regards.
@@onanysundrymule3144 It’ll be easier than you think, as the old lime motor will easily come out. Good luck!
Your video popped up whilst searching for the long gone Major Hext's railway at Coniston. Pity the bridleway is not longer. Stay safe young man.
Thank you kind Sir. Yes the bridleway would have been superb all the way into Torver and Coniston, and imagine riding across the 5 arches viaduct at Moss Side (when the structure was still there). Kind regards.
Does it take any brand bags or is it just for thule ones?
If you at part 1 (#1) of the Wasdale and Eskdale E bike tarp camping series on this channel, you will see the panniers at around the 2.00min timestamp. They are generic all in one bicycle thow-over panniers ie, both bags incorporated with a common saddle bridging strap as a one piece set. You just need to be careful to rig them such that the bags cannot interfere with the wheels. Thanks for watching.
Hi! Can you suggest a good trailer to add to the carrera ebike? I've just bought one and your set up looks great. I have disk brakes and wondered if you have the same and if so, how to attach it to disk brakes? 😊
If you look back through my channel videos you will see one called "Bicycle Trailer and Gimmick Tents". In that video I think I show how the trailer spigot-plate is attached to the end of the rear wheel axle, and held there by a dome headed nut. I don't know the make of my trailer, but if it is for camping only in your case, I would recommend a box/cargo trailer instead of the child trailer you see here. Kind regards.
@@onanysundrymule3144 ok thanks I will check that video out. It's mainly for transportation of my dog, safely and dry

People may be surprised to learn that this area used to be in Lancashire until 1974.
That is correct Sir, 'Lancashire North of the Sands'. Thankyou for that nostalgic reminder.
Thanks for the comment mate . I have something big to announce soon Rog
I have spent enough time in the new one with no past no convictions and spent 80 hours in the cells. ^^ and still fighting Rog
Yes it is and yes I have saved the facade without grant monies promissed and will open the Bar Continental again for the Euros Bigger Better and with decent toilets . Rog
That is not ctually true, I have been arrested 9 timesince complining about the town hall.Dragged from my bed three times in ghospital 3 times and eighty hours in the cells . Also you will never read anything about me in the local rag as They are frightendof me a`nd in the councils pockets. I will not keep quiet. I might be 66 but have the heart of a lion Thanks for your support Tell your friends. Rog
I have now been arrested by the police spent time in the clls and now I have elected for crown court to get a fair trial
I forgot to mention that the red brick building behind the railway station was demolished by the guy who gave you permission to film. Peter Cairns He then used at and all theland behind it as storage. When I had the House of Lords cleared Iwas told to store all of the bricks , Which I did behind the railway club once Peter cleared most of his bricks etc . However after a few deliveries the guy who carrying out the demolition work at the HOL Mike Marsh stopped taking the bricks to the railway and stole all of them .He also left the HOL in a hell of a mess . I have reported to the police but so far nothing. Not even interested. I have reported to the owners of that part that I don't own Steven Horrocks and Dave Cross but they are not interested either. They did however come and arrest me for breaking My gates ( I have the receipt ) When Peter Cairns tried to stop me going to my property to store my bricks . Closing the gates and placing his truck in front of it . I hired a dumper off the best mid size plant hire in the world Luscombe hire in Ulverston. Pushed the gates open and moved the truck.. Far from investigating anything else . The police are chasing me . Mind you I am not getting the best from the police at the moment am I . Rog
You are not having much luck at all Sir, my empathies to you. If the police are chasing you, you may need to adopt the following strategy; Drive down any residential street, at any Speed you like (ie at 50 or 60mph in a 30 zone, say), with or Without an exhaust pipe even (it just doesn't seem to matter), then the police will totally ignore you and let you carry on! This has been their strategy for about 5 years as far as I can work out, ie, to ignore speeders and noise polluters, that is. If you do see an actual police officer in person, hang on to him/her, it may be the last time you ever see one..... they are so rare as almost to be a fairy story from the past theses days. 'Believing' that you are seeing an actual police officer may however just be an illusion, or a delusion, or a dream/nightmare ..... they are so rare! I think David Attenborough did a program several years ago on the BBC about them becoming an endangered species of late. In fact, so rare are they I believe in some parts of the country - hereabouts included - that the children of today may only ever get to see one in a zoo amongst other barely extinct species like the Panda, a useful Labour party, and an MOT testing station that actually checks exhaust noise levels. I think they (the police, that is) will often be found as potentially effective breeding pairs around (ie protecting) rich persons gated communities in Richmond, City of London, MPs second homes and duck Houses, and the like: and perhaps it is hoped that if numbers ultimately regenerate, then they will "Re-wild" some young police males and females into these northern forested areas! I hope your troubles are soon resolved. Kind regards.
I own the Railway station and have gone through hell wigth Barrow council They are trying to buy it off me cheap . My plan is to develop it and keep all the origional stone work brickwork and marble . There are two collums that match those collums tht match outside the House of Lords that has burnt down. The council wanted to demolish it but I have saved the facade .I am afraid you are too late with the building opposite it has been demolished but you are right . The railway station is about six feet under the ground where thw railway lines still exist, The trains only came in on one platform. As for the rest you are 100% right. Roger Mckimm
Thank you for that detailed information Sir. The House of Lords.... is that where the Bar Continental is (next to Ramsden Hall baths)?
Wonderful to see you two back again and lovely to see a bit more of Poppit, look forward to the next one 😊

Thank you kindly good Sir.

Thankyou very kindly Sir.

Thankyou Sir.
Sorry to say this but that was extremely painful to watch😂! The fuel calculation I did in my head in a few seconds so how on earth could have taken you soooooo long on video?😂. Well done though for doing it at such a time. For context though, my R1200RS averages 60mpg some 15 more than bike mags tested it at but we all know how they ride. Suzuki VStroms are great bikes, much under rated. If I could only keep one of mine it would be my 17yr old Veestrom650. It makes more sense in todays traffic on UK roads and riding conditions than just about anything else. Japanese middleweights are really some of the most versatile and dependable bikes made.
Well thank you Sir for watching. Yes it was a bit of a long one, a bit of road ambience and scenery, a bit of dialogue re fuel types and also the rationale and definition parameters of the fuel range test itself, not least the differing road conditions deriving said result. Kind regards.

If anyone any recollections or memories they would like to share regarding the Iron Furnaces at Askam, please feel free to leave a comment under this video. Does anyone ever recall seeing an Askam pig? If so, was it sort of faceted along it's upper surface like the one in this video? Please share your memories here. Kind Regards.
Goodness me! This brings back memories. A very dear friend of mine used to own one of the cottages at dunnerholme. He gave it up due to regular flooding. I ended up having a caravan at the farm next door. This was back in the 1980's when that part of the world was still very much off the beaten track. During my countless hours on the Duddon estuary, I recall finding many an Iron slag. It literally is a treasure trove up there. Happy memories.
@yasminsawar4762 Thankyou kindly for your recollections Yasmin. How often would you say the tide overlaps the grass banks at Dunneholme, is it once a year or so? Kind regards.
@@onanysundrymule3144 Hello there! I recall that He had the cottage for several years, and it did flood several times. So, it probably did flood annually. The Golf course adjacent the properties would get some water on occasions, too. It is one of those places that has NOT been spoiled by modernity. A quiet haven with breathtaking views of the fells across the estuary. I spent many an hour on the 'beach' and when the tide went out, it left starfish and jellyfish aplenty. Your video has brought back sweet memories. Thanks for uploading.
@@yasminsawar4762 Thankyou, my pleasure. I shall be uploading another Askam seashore history type video soon which will hopefully evoke further memories for you. Thanks for watching. Kind regards.
Not surprising that it was slower to Penrith, it is uphill going towards Scotland. Keep safe.
Indeed Sir, it certainly felt like an uphill struggle for some of it. Thanks for watching. All the best and kind regards.
How did it get on up Lindale hill?
It oscillates between 4th and 5th around 40 to 45 mph, thank you kindly for watching.
Nice to see you back on youtube again, I was watching a guy on youtube building a victorian display cabinet and he was using your signature tune music from your cycling adventures, are you still using the ebikes ?
Hello kind Sir, I am glad to hear from you. We still use E-bikes around and about, but we haven't resumed E-bike hols yet from the pandemic thing era, which kind of broke the momentum of it all. We may get back to it yet though. Kind regards.
After repointing, is there anything you can buy to treat the face of bricks so water runs off better?
Hello. I believe there are products advertised for such, but....... (a) I doubt if they would last for long when you consider that a brick wall will last for hundreds of years anyway, and (b) I have become convinced that lime mortars are the proper way to go - at least on structures built before around 1930, and (c) full breathability of the structure is desirable. Kind regards.
@@onanysundrymule3144 Thanks, I found a product called Storm Dry Masonry Protection Cream. It seems to be pretty good, lasts up to 25 years and bricks can still breath. It’s a highly rated product by the looks of it. I’m gonna render some parts of our property and re-point other parts, then I’ll decide if to use the Storm Dry treatment.
Lime mortar keeps bricks apart, cement keep bricks together.
Is that a metaphor or a construction trade 'rule of thumb' kind of saying? Kind regards.
Looks like a very stressful journey but hopefully worth it in the end. I look forward to seeing Anglesey. Good to see you both came through the pandemic.
Thank you kind Sir, and thank you for watching. Likewise re the last 2 years thing. Kind regards.
Nice video! I admit I laughed right out loud at the little 'oh' when it wasn't Poppets face at the window. Good thing my husband wasn't home, he'd have thought I was off my nut ;)

When are you going to show us the Backbarrow one x 😍 been waiting ages x
Oh gosh, I had forgot that someone already knew about that. I've got tons of footage, and it'll be a long job to edit through it all, also, I was going to wait until all the new development work had settled down a bit - sort of thing. But it is good that you should remind me, thank you. I'll maybe get onto it next winter. Kind regards.
@@onanysundrymule3144 it's sad to see all the wildlife leave but nice to see use from the old buildings x
Sensible idea. I've converted my child carrier with a Stanley Promobile tool box. When in camp, the ply base which the previous owner used to reinforce the base is now cut to fit on top pf the toolbox which serves as a raised counter and cooker stand.
Hi there - thanks for the b=video. Quite a few good tips. Could you let me know where you get that axle extender nut? Need one but can't seem to find one anywhere. Glad you mentioned the pee- bottle - never go camping without it! Every good wish to you both Paul
Thank you kind Sir. It was quite a while ago so I can't be fully sure, but it might have been from the cycle section in Wilko, or Halfords, or maybe just any generic cycleshop. Kind regards.
Cement damage is the problem. Should be repointed in Natural Lime Mortar i can tell by just looking at the wall it was built before 1930. Cement mortar sets harder than the bricks itself so the bricks take the weather damage in regards to the surrounding mortar, what can be replaced over time.
That is dead right Sir. I am just on the verge of ordering some lime mortar NHL 3.5 for repointing my front yard wall.
Appreciate you doing this at such a time. Those really were ridiculous days. Media driven hysteria. Exactly what I was looking for though.
The building next to the old post office was an court. I am from Barrow. There was also a court in with the police station until the one on Abbey Road was built. There is another old police station on Barrow Island and I believe the cells are still there. Just across the bridge on Michealson Road. It is now a housing estate office.
Oh wow, thank you very much for the information. I shall go and check out the Barrow Island one. Kind regards.

Very interesting good sir. The notches in the large beam at the end of video suggest that in its previous life it was probably the other side up and the notches supported beams for a floor, perhaps in a barn. Seasonal greetings from Australia.
Thank you kind Sir. Now then, when you suggest the beam was probably the other way up originally, do you mean from where I am standing? or from where you are standing? - ie down under - with you looking upsy-downy ways - hahahaha. Yes, I am sure you are correct re the beam, it has indeed been re-purposed, likely from a structure just as you suggest. Thank you for watching, and all the very best for the coming new year.
