This is the first video on this fire engine from North Stelton Fire Company, Piscataway NJ. This truck hasn't run in years and just came to our shop for repairs including the cooling system, fuel system and electrical system. New fuel tank, machining parking brake parts and more.
Thanks to Bensound.com for music.
www.tanksinc.com. I highly recommend this company for any fuel tank needs. They make a bunch of vehicle specific tanks, many different universal tanks and a whole slew of accessories such as sending units, blank off plates and more.

Originally from Winooski Vermont, this rig is privately owned in Massachusetts and the owner is excited to be getting it back. Thanks to my wife Lydia for filming me recently and making things a lot easier for me! Thank you to bensound.com for music

could you recommend a battery for a 1939 La France pumper 521 CO #8062?
That Cadillac ROCKS
Kroil oil would have worked goggle it
Love the analog Simpson meter👍🇺🇸
Sounds great! Thank you for inspiring us to keep these pieces of history alive.
You stopped short of getting the Rags out of the Tank! I was watching in Baited Ambition (or Anticipation) to see you pull the "Rabbit out of the Hat!"!
Keenly interested in this particular project! I, too, own a 1934 Dodge/Pirsch pumper that I'm wanting to restore here in Wisconsin. The truck runs and drives. However, can't get the pump to work. It's a good truck, but will need work.
That's cool! Let us know if you want us to get that working for you some time.
🙂👍🏻! Nice fire truck! Thank you for the tour. I miss my '37 Dodge 1-ton pickup. I have a set of original 6-lug, smooth-face split-rims available for a '37 1-ton Dodge single rear-wheel pickup. They may be correct for other close years.
My 38 Seagrave ladder truck has a copper gas tank on the passenger side and copper hydraulic tank on the drivers side
The professor .. says .. parts bin engineering (Italian tidbits?) built that car. Does Fiat ring a bell. ? Ha. Just joking. Awesome find!!
Good project.
Thanks!
Sorry but the gas tank on the running board looks like crap.
Wow
3d scan it and you have your own war map😊
GOOD LORD
How much was the bill? Is nickel plating the same as chrome?
Chrome has a clear coat. Nickel does not.
Typical chrome bill for full restoration with no mark up on our end is $45k - $50k. This one will probably be close to double that. Restoring a fire truck is expensive!!
It's gonna take a while
You are a bad person
I just did my parlor, stove and nickel and that in itself was crazy money there was only I don’t know. I’m guessing 40 little pieces plus the rings maybe 46 pieces I would love to know what that cost you I spent I got a bid for $890.

Keep it from rusting i think.
That’s wild
Great video, Question, did you have to drop the engine?
Nice video. Please loose the music! Easier to hear what you are saying.
Thank you
Needs a mounted wooden toolbox.
Customer didn't have it in the budget. The iron arms on the back underneath the roller are for the future box they are going to make themselves.
Looks nice. It almost looks miniature with the smaller wheels compared to most wooden hose carts. Would have been cool to see before pictures.
Yeah I totally agree we missed out with pictures from before. I will dig and see if I can find any and post them. Thank you for watching!!
Nice try. This could be a Wirt and Knox hose reel. It's missing the wooden tool box on the back. May have had a short crow bar on the side opposite the axe. Lots of ways to paint these things. I personally don't care for all red but some people like that.
First start... Haha.
😂
Great video! The tank which looks like the type O.J. Childs used as a soda acid system must be only for pump water. ALF did buy Childs but used their extinguishing system. My 1920's Model T used the soda acid arrangement.
Please tell me you are making videos on this entire restoration. What an amazing piece of history you have the honor of restoring.
For what it’s worth, that’s a myth about the TR3 motor originating from a Ferguson tractor. Actually both engines (TR3 and tractor) were developed independently and quite differently from the same Standard Vanguard automobile engine released in 1947.
Restored work of art. Be proud. Not many Mack's of that era are around and few if any look like this gem.
Thank you we appreciate that!
Good morning, what battery are you using for this restore. I am purchasing a 1939 La France pumper. I assume it is 6volt however cannot find anybody showing this.
Those clamps are no problem if you use the proper hose clamp pliers.
Interesting. We have a 1945 Mack Fire truck in Hancock NH
did you happen to film the removal of the torque tube?
you need central air in your shop, I have a 1938 Seagrave 65' ladder truck with a 6cyl International engine that was swapped out sometime in the 60's
We actually have it now. Just put it in a month ago or so.
He must get all the ladies with that ratty beard
As long as you don't have to lap the seats your good !!! Always hated lapping seats and could never get the Prussian blue off my hands
If it works ot works but as a primarily passenger car mechanic this looks sketchy at best
Hey sorry everybody I misspoke, it's actually Madison Connecticut not Clinton CT. Just wanted to clarify. Sometimes I get lost with so many different fire engines we have coming into the shop each month. 😅
Happy 4th to you.
George wants to be a gear jammer.
Yes he is a huge car and truck guy already!
Had my first run in a 50 Maxim just like that one I was 16
Wow.
Удачи в вашем нелегком труде!❤
What a cool old engine. Very well kept.
The mack has a mag and point/coil. That's pretty cool
I think there is more to timing these engines than just setting with a timing light based on a right hand cylinder. The timing of the two sets of points in each distributor are individually adjustable. The manual describes setting them using a piece of paper to determine the exact moment of points opening; however at the very least if you choose to use a timing light, you need to do it on a left hand cylinder as well as a right hand cylinder, since one set of points in each distributor is for the left bank and one is for the right bank. One set of points can only be timed by rotating the entire distributor. The other set of points is mounted to a movable breaker plate in the distributor so it can rotate independently. All that said: modern fuel is not the same as fuel was back then. The factory timing specs are probably not optimized for our modern high octane, slow burning fuel. You’d probably be best off advancing the timing from the factory spec (probably significantly) to get the most efficient burn and reduce the likelihood of overheating the engine. Using the programmable “advance” on your OTC timing light, you could ensure that you are advancing all four sets of breaker points the same amount from the factory timing mark, in order to ensure synchronized firing. You can keep advancing a little at a time (likely having to re-adjust idle speed/mixture in between each adjustment, as advancing timing will increase idle speed) and then take it for a test drive each time to ensure it doesn’t “ping” or detonate while pulling a hill at full throttle. Once you advance it far enough that it pings, you’d then stop driving it, back the advance off a couple degrees and lock it in. This will be the most efficient setpoint for your particular grade of gasoline. The octane selectors were provided on those distributors so the user could adjust timing for the wider variation in fuel octane back in the day. Our fuels are consistent enough today that those should just as well be set at “0°” at the start of the timing procedure.
I buy non ethanol aviation gas, its a little expensive but its worth it.
