I made this 1.5 years ago with my friends, and it's finally able to be released. It was the first time I ever made anything like this and I've learned a ton since it was made. It changed my life and career since, and was one of the hardest things I've ever had to complete. I couldn't be more grateful to Fujifilm and my friends.

    Hey Jasmine, the title drew me to the video, and once I clicked and began to watch, I was thoroughly immersed in your story. I absolutely love listening to the variety of voices within the skateboarding community, and I was able to emotionally connect with your short film immediately. It was like "I know exactly what she is talking about!" Having recently turned 36 years old, I have been engaging with skateboarding and the skateboard community for about 25 years now. Like you, I had "quit" several times before and most recently went the longest 7 months without setting foot on a skateboard after moving here to Japan. Just when I thought that it was all over for good, I came across a local skateshop, invested in a new setup and shoes, and we are cruising again! The passion is just as fresh as it was when I first started. Sorry to trail off about myself, but my point is that I can completely empathize with how you feel, even the struggles. No matter what nationality, or background, skateboarding is truly like a community of brothers and sisters to me. Thank you for contributing to the community, sister. Your narration and cinematics were excellent and really capture the essence of a skateboarder's unique soul. Skateboarding breeds diversity like no other art or thing that I have witnessed. It is beautiful. Thank you for giving us such a high-quality glimpse into your personal story. Your genuineness as a person and narrator is clearly seen and felt. I hope that this comment encourages you. Keep persevering. Yah bless 🙂

    The cinematography is top notch! beautifully shot. But the latter part of the story isnt satisfactory for my taste; I was thinking other things might happen, but it ends in an underwhelming and abrupt way.

      @JQmadeit Месяц назад

      @@laizerwoolf haha appreciate that feedback honestly. A big thing I learned writing it is that 5 minutes is not enough time to let 4 different scenes breathe and the time would’ve been better used to flesh out one scene in one location. Horror is definitely not my genre of comfort but also feel super proud of the visuals we pulled off for this!

    In case you still feel this way, I felt this way for the first 25 years of my life, then I recognised that I have a mind so I should learn how to use it, so I started studying philosophy autodidactically and it solved everything for me (I personally started with Hesse, which I found helpful for myself as a depressed confused young adult). There is no need to ask questions that people much smarter than us have already solved in a civilisational conversation that has continued in written history for ten thousand of years, and longer in oral history before that... a living conversational history in which each giant pushes further beyond and atop the giants that they have studied prior and leveraging still. Adler's How to Read a Book is the starting point and my first are foremost recommendation. For instance, what is the good life? well it depends on what is good? so what is the supreme good? how can we measure it? how can we prove it, relatively and universally? what are still the unknowns? what are the solved things? One discovers each civilisation is constructed by well documented conversation lineages of ideas, and differences are not just inequalities but also simply unknowns or divergences in equally valid working theories. You can check out @bevry-philosophy for a community around studying things, and the "Purpose of humanities" video from @balupton (my other account) that summarises it. I truly hope it helps. I enjoy your films, they are made by someone who certainly has talent and is growing as a person, the challenge perhaps you're facing is connecting it with a supreme meaning in a wealthy civilisation in which evolutionary necessity is giving way to mere hypersexualisation rather than other factors of evolutionary fitness; an example of fitness being individual and social management of solutions to scarcity (such as innovating to turn scarce food/energy production into abundant food/energy production to prevent starvation/famine/inequality), however while a wealthy society no longer suffers from physical scarcities like food and energy anymore, people still suffer from spiritual scarcities like loneliness, lovelessness, aimlessness, and so on. (spiritual here is a completely secular). Your work already deals with these inequalities and lacks in the distribution of the humanities - perhaps you just need to discover why such work is supreme (or not supreme) for you... Let me know if you ever want to talk. Hope it helps.

  • @BenjaminLupton

    Brilliant film. I hope you (or the character in the film) discovered that in the end, they did and do look like you; that once we see beyond our superficial differences and extrinsic/intrinsic identity markers, we see we are first and foremost human, that the brotherhood of mankind welcomes all of humanity, even if the empire doesn't at times.
