Im someone who has never touched a guitar. do you think it's a good idea to start with fingerstyle?

I've had a guitar in my hands for a long time playing mostly rock and country but just now learning to use my fingers you have been a great help. your not just feeding people your teaching them to fish. peace and Thanks for the video

1. RUclips and Songsterr are all you need. 2. You don't need gear. 3. Just play something. 4. Keep a schedule and goals to get over the learning curve ("hump") 5. (Most important) make it fun

This is something that I just recently learned as a person who gave up guitar and wants to get back into it. You should be okay with sucking at first, and not be embarrassed about it. That was my biggest fear; I was 13 and got my first guitar and never wanted to play out loud because I sucked for the most part and could never "get" the guitar. I taught my self only tabs and never any actual chord progressions, scales, or anything, so I gave up. I'm 30 now and really wish I could have that 17 years of practice under my belt. I'm struggling with getting back into it and I hope I have the guts to do it. Anyone else feel that way too?

i kinda just went from stage 1 to stage 2. completely skipped stage 3 alltogether and stage 4 because i was focusee on more electric guitar songs so hammer ons and stuff came easier because ive just been learning more metal and surf rock. thanks for fortmating it this way because i think i can grasp basic open chords bettwr now. edit: i also learned to read tab somewhere along the line. so my guitar journey is pretty sporadic. bar chords also came easier for some reason

hahaha... I skipped to #5 and yup you are right, spot on. #4 yeah consistency is basically it, even if you dont have the goals.... I didnt set goals but perhaps my goals were so fun I didnt see it as a goal. #1 I say Ultimate Guitar and Chordify are also worth mentions and also within youtube type: "Rocksmith <song you want>" and you get a real time tab w the song. But #5 is defo most important and extra to that is to look at your guitar as a toy and mess around with it, have it handy... I got 3 guitars hanged on the wall behind my bed... . and I'm a drummer, guitar isnt my main instrument but I'm in a band getting payed to play guitar.... which is mental to me, lol.

i have been having my guitar for 2-3 years and i haven’t gotten better and it has just sat there and i get disappointed with myself for not taking it serious and being a seriously good guitar player so listen to the guy or else you’ll be like me for eternity. i’m not gonna be like this for eternity tho thank you man

Marty is so overrated. Idk why people like him do much he just plays a song and gives a brief explanation on how to do it. He just says “your finger goes here” and doesn’t elaborate so you really are teaching yourself and he isn’t teaching you anything

I would say is if you do start on an acoustic please either look up how to set it up or get it professionally set up. I nearly gave up due to my poorly set up acoustic causing chords to be extremely difficult to do. Especially bar chords
