The kids still hated it, but we got some good reactions. Here's our video on how we made our low tunnels. These worked perfectly and are packed up for next season. ruclips.net/video/iMJ7oB1kjGg/видео.htmlsi=IAZeFfcryFyKqQe1

Super cool. Thanks for sharing
Glad to see your family enjoying the fruits, veggies, and meats of your labor!😊
Thank you for the comment!
This looks good. I'll try this recipe.
Thanks for commenting! 😀
😋Looks absolutely delicious!!! I know your kids don't like too much spice, but my kids are all extra - lol - they need all the herbs, spices, and garlic! Congrats on the long, hard work!
Thank you for the kind words! Lord knows we can’t wait for the girls to like more herbs, spices, and garlic in their food 😀
More loom, or spagnum, or seed hulls, easier to pull out and they lime it.
Thanks for commenting!
This guy I gave watched a few years says the leaves are edible and taste spinache.
Beautiful ❤! What FUN! 😊
Thank you!
Great harvest
Thank you!😀
Nice looking sweet potatoes. No odd looking shapes. What do you attribute the nice shapes to ? I always wonder how the grocery stores sweet potatoes always look so uniform. They probable select a acceptable size and the rest go to the cannery..
Thanks for commenting! I’m not sure what the big farms do, but we plant our slips when the roots are between 2 and 4 inches long. We work about a 1 foot diameter circle of soil with the pick for each slip so the soil is nice and aerated. Last, we try to plant the slip roots over a small pyramid of soil at the bottom of the planting hole so each root grows in its own direction. You’re almost certainly right about the acceptable size/cannery triage done by larger food farms. Have a good one!
Fantastic harvest !
Thank you 👍
This harvest is epic, thanks for sharing..new friend here.
Thank you for for watching and the kind words 😀👍
Great harvest
Thanks you!
You'll have to make a coney stew like Samwise Gamgee! With potatoes!
@@nvogieYou know what we need is? Taters.
@@HillandCreekHomestead boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew!
Congrats on meeting your harvest goal! I know you were extremely bummed last year when a lot of them got eaten.
Thank you for commenting! This year’s harvest more than makes up for last year’s loss. 😃
That's a pretty *sweet* potato harvest!
Haha😂
You can eat the leaves. Search up some recipes online
Thanks for commenting! We tried a bit of the leaves when the plants were younger. They were pretty good!
@@HillandCreekHomestead The entire plant is edible. It doesn't contain solanine because sweet potatoes are actually a morning glory rather than a nightshade like regular potatoes. Cats shouldn't eat the vines though, it's a bit toxic to them and they will get high off it lmao.
Where is "here"?
💞
I grew the Burpee's butter bush this yr along side the Futsu and Seminole and the borers had a field day with the butter bush, and I won't be growing those again. The Futsu grew amazingly fast and rooted at every leaf node as does the Seminole and they did great. If you grow one that roots in many places the dreaded vine borer may kill off part of the vine but the rest keep growing and absorbing nutrients while putting on more fruit. If you plant a Hubbard 50 to 100 ft from your butternut it's a trap crop for vine borers. You probably won't ever get a mature Hubbard before they kill the vines, but it keeps them out of your main crop. From an old farmer/gardener that's been growing for well over 40 yrs.
Thank you for all of the tips! The vine borers and pests definitely gave us trouble this year. We are interested in the decoy planting technique you detailed with the Hubbard. After this season we’ve come to appreciate (as you explained) that nature has to be worked with and not against. We’ll probably never totally rid ourselves of the SVB’a but your advice on the Hubbard decoy and multi-rooting species is a ray of hope! Thanks again!
Very good Try Trombonico squash similar to butternut but larger grew mine on trellis like you and on the ground You are correct so fun to watch trellis growth Today I take down last of my Trombonico
Thanks for watching and commenting! We are always on the hunt for good homesteading crops. Thank you for the heads up on trombonico. They look enormous!
I about fell out of my chair to know that this type of butternut squash, resist vine boards. I will be growing it next year. I had a huge problem with vine bars this year thank you.
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for commenting. Happy planting!

Good looking sweet potatoes 🍠
Thanks for commenting! We’re having some sweet potato fries this very night 😀
My bearded dragon would do back flips for those worms 😅😂
Thanks for commenting! I recently learned pet reptiles have a fondness for these worms. We need a few lizards in our garden 😄
Chincoteague had at 1 point a good Shark 🦈 fishing experience. 2 places as I remember years ago. Boats that would go about 10 miles from shore and could get some good catches. Lemon,Bull, maybe a Tiger? I think OSEARCH is now watching that 🤔
@@davebowrin7361 Thanks for commenting! Sounds like some good memories were made 👍
If i had an apple tree, it would be the deers apple tree. Juat kiddong, ill never have an apple tree because land and houses are so expensive I wont be able to afford a decetplace until its time to downsize.
Thanks for commenting! The deer out here definitely see there share of 🍎 😀
That first cabbage looked like the rumor weed from veggietales!
Classic!
Does the torch damage the leaves if lightly applied such as you did in the video?
Thanks for commenting! We only noticed a few spots where the torch put a light brown scar on the leaf. In those places the entire leaf was thriving save for a small burn scar. Most of the leaves saw no change where we torched the eggs.
Congrats guys! Awesome job.
Thanks for joining us on the adventure nvogie!
Love you guys. Keep up the good work and congrats on 500 subs!
Thank you for your support! 😀
Congrats on attaining 500 subscribers!! There's still room to grow ... Best wishes for a continued successful harvesting season at Hill and Creek Homestead!
We had a garden. I used to move the catapillers because I thought those were eggs of the catapillar. I looked it up too. I found birds would come and eat them too. It was a nice little eco system. I leave them alone now.
It’s cool seeing the connections between all of these species taking place in the garden. 👍
Poor worm.dont let the laler wasps est them.. Its torture..💔
Shouldn't have eaten the tomatoes.
Wasps need to live too.
You know there's reptile owners who would pay for the hornworms
Thanks for commenting! We didn’t know there was a market for the worms. Thanks for the tip!
@@HillandCreekHomestead no problem it also depends on the area but I always have to outsource for my area because they aren't commonly found and I do have a few critters that love the heck out of them and eat them like no other, most that I get shipped to me arrive in special deli cups im not sure where to get the deli cups but I'm sure if you looked up reptile deli cups or hornworm deli cups maybe you can find them, I hope this does help that way you can hopefully get a bit extra money from these so called pests
You might have take off the wasp eggs before but there is a bit of a market for hornworms

this jam would taste delicious on a "homestead to table" strawberry shortcake. Yum! Plus many other menu creations!

That first white one is a regular Houdini - he'll run away and join the circus if you don't watch!
Haha! They are a lively bunch of rabbits!

You can also use tiles. Put them in the fridge not the freezer and change them out when they warm up depending on the heat anywhere from an hour to several hours
Thanks for commenting! Great idea with rotating the tiles 😀
Thats a really sad cage
