Ah okay. So in one of the Novels, The Ghost Machine, it is implied that Simon's family is somewhat incestuous. His father planned to marry him off to his cousin and this eas a thing known to happen occasionallyin his family. I thought that came completely out of nowhere. I guess this was the seed of that narrative.

How does Simon not know where this is coming from. It's obvious that River has the innocence of a little girl who wants to marry her daddy because they see love and marriage as the same thing.

This is a really good scene. Everything it shows us - River’s innocence and naivety and insecurities, Simon trying to explain to her why they can’t be married, River exposing Saffron and giving us another subtle hint of her psychic abilities, Mal’s response to Saffron taking the food - all that is really good. The bit where Simon calls her crazy does seem slightly out of character, but it doesn’t seem like a complete character break, to be honest. He didn’t really mean it, he was just shocked by what she had said and was trying to think of an excuse to give to Book. I mean, he apologised immediately.

"There's more than 70 Earths spinning about the galaxy and the meek have inherited not a one." That's such a great line for Malcom, a man who lost his faith after losing a war for independence.

Is this a blooper or deleted scene or somthing? I've watched fire fly minimum of 80 times since 2009 when Netflix had it then amazon prime. I've never seen this scene.

I think they could have just cut out the part of River and Simon marrying. The rest is great.

I think maybe if it was written a little differently, maybe Simon awkwardly trying to explain the difference between familial and romantic love while the preacher is judging him with a slowly raising eyebrow like he does with Mal in this episode, and his out-of-character reaction being better explained as him trying to escape the preachers wrath, it could have been included. There's some good and funny lines here that didn't deserve cutting; Mal's speech especially.

I watched this thinking to myself I do not remember this scene and then I notice the deleted part about it.......lol. Show was great and a ball the execs literally and figuratively dropped.
