Remembering Nintendo Power Magazine
Do you remember Nintendo Power Magazine? For a time, this magazine OWNED readership among children and Nintendo fans in America, doling out exclusive hints, relying on savvy marketing, and figuring out the right balance between promoting world-class video-game content and getting kids to buy their product.
Using some unique methods - like improving on a newsletter and, at one point, giving away a game in exchange for a subscription (Dragon Warrior, anyone?), this magazine helped push the trend that defined our childhood.
In this video, we review the incredible Nintendo Power Magazine.

Nintendo is one of the best known brands in the one. They are also one of the most legal-trigger-happy. More than almost any other company, Nintendo is known for their AGGRESSIVE use of legal systems across the world to stop pirates, counterfeiters…and, in some cases, ordinary RUclipsrs. In today’s video, we’re going to take a look at Nintendo’s legal strategies, discuss WHY they are so lawsuit...
The Gayest Easter Egg Ever: The (highly unauthorized) Speedo-Clad Men of Sim Copter
Просмотров 3,4 тыс.14 дней назад
Video game Easter Eggs are usually cute little jokes, inserted by game programmers, that make us laugh or refer to another media property. Then, sometimes, they are speedo-clad men who try to kiss you. Wait, what? Here’s the true story of Jaques Servin, an activist who inserted an Easter Egg into SimCopter WITHOUT the games permission. It ended Servin’s career at Maxis, but it also resulted in ...
Nintendo vs. Blockbuster: The Strange Battle Over Instruction Manuals (that was about so much more)
Просмотров 49 тыс.21 день назад
Remembering renting video games from Blockbuster as a kid? Nintendo does..and they hated it. They hated it so much, in fact, that they tried to lobby Congress for legal challenges. Failing that, they sued Blockbuster…over photocopying instruction manuals. In today’s video, we discuss the remarkable story of how Nintendo and Blockbuster went to legal war over royalties, rental fees, and photocop...

When you think of pinball, you probably think of good, clean, wholesome fun. Ahh, you naïve youth, you. Here’s the thing: Pinball has a ton of gambling origins. Well giving that the gaming industry was young at the time, no one really knew what to watch out for. Other factors, such as lack of publishing control, meant that you had a lot of lower quality games on the market that cause gamers to steer away from certain brands of PC and Consoles even though they were known be excellent. Then, there was flooded market which I think that did them in. Too many consoles and PC's where available and not enough shelve room to hold them in stores along with leaving consumers an idea, that boggled their mind, of what system to buy. It was hard lesson to learn, but thankfully since then, we have not had another market crash since.

Zelda 2 was the first game I bought with my own money. I absolutely loved it. Yeah, it was harder than the first game, but I enjoyed the changes and felt it really expanded on Hyrule and the whole story. It remains one of my favorite entries in the series.

My fave Zelda game. I love the difficulty and the gameplay style. I feel like metroidvania games are popular and alot of them are kinda hard to enjoy when you have competition like SoTN and Hollow knight. However I think some should probably draw inspiration from Zelda 2 with its combat having a focus on high/low thrusts and shielding and such. Fighting the knight enemies in Zelda 2 has an actual knight battle feel that other games don't have (yes I know you can cheese them with jump attacks, I refuse to do this, I fight them with honor!). That being said, I want someone to make a beatemup like Dragon's crown even more.. argh.

Sega cd and 32x were before their time and were a decent attempt at upgrading existing hardware. People are happily getting ripped off more today. Just imagine instead of paying £500 for a ps5 pro you could buy an add on to your original ps5 to make it to the same specs.

I was 11 and I got this mess for the 2600 as an early birthday present. I was for 10 minutes the hero in my neighborhood for I was the 1st to get it. Everyone on my block including older cool kids, girls, bullies shit I think the Mail Man was in my Kensington row home and as I slipped that ruiner of worlds piece of plastic crap I knew just by the cover on the cartridge then I turned it on and before I knew it I was the worst most pathetic dork that got bullied just for the game being so suck ass. I cried for 2 days and hid till the summer. ET had nothing on this flop.

Zelda II took inspiration from the overarching fantasy epic movement in Hollywood at the time with movies like Willow, The Neverending Story, Conan The Barbarian, and The Dark Crystal.

Everybody bought the 7800 if they wanted a new Atari after that came out in 1986, the 5200 was a quick really bad response to a rival console.

After a certain period of time your game console and its games become public domain. This happened to the nes in 2003 and since that time of you want to buy one that isn’t made by Nintendo you are free to do so but they still try to act like they’re above the law and stop people from playing their games so they can charge them money to play public domain stuff, like if universal was going after sellers who were selling Frankenstein and Dracula.
