Thanks for the video. it's interesting because the reviews for this product are either very positive, or extremely negative. I'm doing a test section of my deck now, so I guess we'll see if it's because the product is bad, or the other youtubers can't follow instructions. For me it's not a stain issue. I have paint splotches all over the deck from some rushed house painting. But also the previous owner never took care of the outside so it had considerable mold and mildew issues which I was able to mostly clean with a pressure washer. hoping the stripper will lighten some of the spots the pressure washer didn't work on. Going out ever 5-10 mins or so and just misting it with my hose since there appears to be an issue with it staining the deck white like it's covered in a calcium deposit. 30 mins to go, and we'll see how she cleans up.
I guess I did the mistake of following the instructions on the Behr youtube video of leaving the product for 15 minutes, I will try again leaving for 45 and hope to save a lot of sanding because it didn't worked as good as this video.
Idk if he mentioned it in the video, but keep everything wet before you apply the stripper and during. I just breezed through $40 worth of stripper by applying to a dry deck with too thin a coat when it was hot out. Mine dried up in minutes and I didn’t know to rewet and let set. Good luck to you!
Of course I didn’t do that. So it didn’t do anything. Thank you !! However I started flipping all the boards. They look new. I’ll never use a solid stain ever again. Thank you again
Well heck. Stuff looks like it works really good. I probably need to get a couple more jugs but that’s pretty amazing how well that worked. I just got one jug to try it out and my deck is about 700’sq
Just finished using Behr #64 on my 700 square foot deck today. I made the huge mistake of painting the deck with Behr latex deck paint five years ago. It was peeling after the first winter and became much worse over the next four years. After much trial & error, we rolled on the stripper when we had shade, waited ten minutes, dampened the stripper with a tank sprayer on mist, then after 30 minutes, applied the second roll-on coat of stripper. At 45 minutes, we dampened again with the tank sprayer. At one hour, we started my Simpson 3100 psi gas powered pressure washer and the paint rolled off in sheets. Strip the paint, come back to clean the knots and it turned out fantastic. Next is sanding with a 12x18 orbital rental sander, then seal with an oil base sealer. This was a good two week project.
About to strip the same Behr latex (Cordova Brown) off of our deck. Put it down last year and it’s peeling badly everywhere despite a full prep (sanding, cleaning, full dry). Never doing latex stain again.
Behr products are awful. I just applied stain to my deck, after taking my sweet time to make sure i had prepared to do more than appropriately. The end result is awful. Ridiculous. The stain is already pealing off in some spot. I have even applied a second coat, and it is already pealing. The rest of it, has a chalky appearance. If you rub it with your hand, it appears to get covered with a white powder, if it does not peal at the spot you rubbed. I had heard that it was junk. Now I know for sure. Not sure how to proceed and try to save the project. Neighbor told me to used something else but, without stripping this junk first, I doubt anything will have a happy ending. I will probably have to do it all over again next year, and I am getting old, and don't have anyone to help me. It is hard to do it in the first place. You make an effort, put your best foot forward, read the instruction, do it by the book, and the product sucks. Too bad!
I need to remove existing stains from my deck..my deck is probably 25-30% of yours, thanks for this video, I tried power wash with 2/10 result, now I am going to use Behr Stain and finish stripper, you know what- I will give your video 10 star. Again thanks
Honestly don’t know how you did this without a mask over your mouth, the chemicals are harsh. Just tried this today and did not work. I had behr stain too. Sucks
I went with this product on my deck and was surprised that it barely worked at all. My deck is 577 square feet and had three coats of paint. Even used as directed it barely cut through the first layer of paint. I had to use the pressure washer to remove what would come up which resulted in me having to sand anyways. Thinking that maybe it was because the paint was too old or thick, I used it on the balusters (which were only stained) and had the same result. Disappointed in this product. Maybe others will have a better result. Keep in mind my house/deck is 27 years old.
Exactly ... tried the product on mine which had 2 coats of paint on for about 3 years and did not work well at all.. need to have it professionally sanded.
I just tried Behr 7-26-22 stripper. on the deck is Behr stain that is brutal to remove using 2800 psi washer and this stripper. 10 hour job 4 gallons is stripper. Some stripper got on the sideboards, non Behr stain and took it right off. thus the stain you put down determines the effectiveness of the stripper. it won't work miricles for everyone.
Nice results,, I have a small railroad tie retaining wall I put some Thompsons Water seal on and Its this same color. Not a fan so hopefully I can remove it with this stuff. Deck looks great.
Wish I could say I had good results with this stripper but, I cannot. This was the second stripper I tried on my two-tier deck. It was the worst of the two. Perhaps, it depends on the stain that is to be removed. Mine was Sikkens and the results were pitiful. Looks like I will be sanding the entire deck. It was a waste of time and money.
Didn’t find this stain remover very effective. Seemed to dry almost the minute it was applied and it was not very warm. Some stain came off but definitely not all. Had to scrub like a maniac too. Disappointed.
I'm thinking of doing this to some cedar siding I have on the house. Would I need to cover windows or concrete to keep the runoff from ruining anything?
@@jamescapone8592 I had a deck installed last November. Had to wait a few months to cause it was treated lumber. Now, I pressure washed the deck first and about to use the Behr deck cleaner. Can't you use a mob to apply the Behr or do you have to use that bristle brush? Also, does it have to be diluted? And finally, your deck is beautiful, but man I bet that was exhausting to do.
@@jonburrows2684 I use the bristle brush but I don’t think you’ll have to because it’s a new deck. I would use the product as the instructions say. Yeah it was a bit of work but it was worth it good luck
Massive job. Very well done. Our deck isn’t as big, it has been neglected for many years. There was an orange colored stain on it. It was covered with moss, mold, etc. it’s been pressure washed and My next step is stripping the remaining coating that won’t come up with our pressure washer. Thank You for sharing this.
Hi adibees I did not wet the deck before applying. Apply product liberally and do not let the surface dry. I used the mister setting on the hose to keep area wet. I would lightly reapply product after misting. Hope this helps
@@jamescapone8592 Thanks, I went in to return the Behr premium solid stain i got few weeks back from home depot but they are not returnable(Wanted to return after I saw how they flake). I guess now gotta use it.
Well….we were all geeked to get started….moved all the furniture off the deck….and then….it was almost like we could hear the JAWS music playing….upon closer inspection….a good number of our boards are mushy and rotting….just along the edges of the entire deck….so instead of putting lipstick on a pig…we have to replace the deck…We are going to use composite boards. Thanks for the best video though. It really gave us confidence that we could have done it ourselves.
The product instructions say apply to dry then keep moist by misting with hose . During the 40 minutes that the product was applied I was constantly misting every now and again would reapply prod lightly.
Hi there, is it better to do it in sections? We just did ours using the same product and half the stain did not come off so the deck look very blotchy now. We’ll have to apply the stuff a 2nd time I guess? The stain we were trying to remove was a semi transparent stain. Is it normal for people to have to apply this stuff twice to remove all the stain? So frustrated!
Hi Graeme I did it in 6 foot sections. It’s really important not to let the stripper dry. Keep it most by reapplying and misting with hose. Patience is the key.
@@jamescapone8592 Hi James, yes we did make sure to keep the areas moist. I guess we’ll just have to redo the process and work in smaller sections. Thanks for the tips and the video. Here’s hoping the 2nd time gets everything off!
Hi James, we redid the process in sections and it worked great!! Thanks so much for the tip. Now I was wondering if I could ask you about semi transparent stains. We’ve heard bad reviews about the Behr Premium semi transparent stains. This is what we just removed and we were thinking of using the same bec we really liked the Cedar natural tone shade. But I figure other brands would probably have a similar colour. Can you recommend a good brand to use? We would prefer water based and semi transparent. Thanks again!
If they dont like the colour.... let them repaint it
Very well done video 👏
How come the wife isnt the one re-doing it ?
Looks good. I tried Citra gel on my deck. I think I will switch up and try this. How did you treat the wood after removal?
Nvm I heard lol
This product does what it says. It truly works!

Be careful. This product doesn't work with pine treated wood.
❤
Did you apply this product to strip the railings as well? Curious cuz I have to do that as well

Great video but I think you lost a lot of stripper going in that direction instead of going with the flow of the wood
Did this today and it doesn’t like to take off heavy stained areas. You must have gotten lucky!!

This new Behr hybrid garbage is absolutely horrible. It starts pedaling in 2-3 years tops.

The main reason it came off so easily is because it was only on for under a year.

You didn't test stain a few boards and ask?....
this stuff needs 2 applications if u have a solid stain and a tip get a deck brush and go back and forth before rinsing it off works better
Great video and the grass in your yard looks amazing!
Thank you Ben
That deck looks amazing without the stain! I'd just do a clear sealer and it matches the dog's color @ 11:09
