Dual Sport Motorcycle Riding Adventures. In 2017, I met Jon Buffington (Professional Photographer) at a Dual Sport Rally in Hohenwald, TN. He & I (Hobbyist Videographer) decided to photograph, film, camp and share the ride (Mini-Series, Movies, Videos). When I first bought my bike, very little information was available for places to ride. Talking with Jon, we both knew its out there, we just needed to go find it! Along the way, somehow it grew into putting on Event Rides Sanctioned by AMA, joining with GS Giants for a rally (LTaR Eastern Rendezvous) and now, were off to film a Mini-Series in the hopes of Finding FUN ... Come Along, Lets take a Ride! ...

We went exploring single track at Windrock the other weekend. It had rained all night making the trails extra slick. Met up with some old timers that showed us around until 1 of them injured themselves after a get off leading to the end of them showing us around. The rest of the time was us lost trying to find our way. This is a long one, raw and just to really show you the type of terrain we w...

5 miles of torture: Stupid Decisions on a Tenere 700 & vstrom 800de - Heavy Enduro

The unnamed rider and myself vowed never to return. The road has become virtually un-rideable and today was a complete torture test on the big ADV bikes necessitating a recovery mission at the end. MID-SOUTH ADV LOOP

These tracks are available for download now. A quick story: At the starting point, I had lived there in Pensacola once. One night, while camping there at the Fort Pickens campgrounds, I had just opened a can of spinach then a can of beans with a cheap hand crank which made the job a lot of work. I was hungry so it didn't matter much. Unbeknownst to me, there was a skunk in the bushes in front o...

This is our loop for the LTAR Central Rendezvous to WATERLOO & back. These are free tracks that can be downloaded from our web-page letstakearide.com. Hope to see you this fall at LTAR Eastern Rendezvous the first week of October, and then in the Spring of 2025 at our new rally LTAR Central Rendezvous.
I like Whitt Rd videos. It makes it a little more personal when the video is from somewhere you have ridden. I once crossed these creeks. I had no idea where we were or where we were going. I was just following the pack. Up for where ever my friends led me. I had never even heard of Whitt Rd. I had no idea that it was difficult. It looked like any other creek crossing to me. I got into one of the ruts and just went straight. No problem. I will know to be nervous the next time.
That is one way to wash a bike. I prefer to use a pressure washer.
It’s fked up that way too! Hahahahahaha
Looks like fun. Just got back from MABDR though. Maybe next year
Dustin and Kate are great people! Highly recommend staying at #solivesoride Glad you had fun David!
What @poltarres13 would say about this road?
4x4 country
Anyone from BC or Alberta watching this , thoughts ?
About 3rd through wAtching- cANT HELP THINKING THAT THE FUN NEEDLE IS SOON GOING TO DIP TO PHUCKED! What do they say? Fools go in where angels fear to tread? lol Heavy bikes!
Looks like a load of fun!!
I’m glad I’m not the only one that does stupid stuff on a T7! I was riding up about timberline at 10,000 feet of elevation on Rocky shit and managed to take a pretty good spill. I won’t tell you about getting pile driven into a 3 foot mud hole full of water last year, but it’s safe to say I have decided that the Yamaha will Stay on the less technical trails and I will use my dirt bikes to access the knar!
I go to church with a guy who lives on Cavender's Branch Rd. It drives him crazy when the Jeeps and side by sides run that road. I think the locals put up those signs that say "closed to through traffic" hoping it will deter people. It's a public road, so they can't do anything about it. I ride through there at least once a month. I don't slow down for some of those creek crossings. I just send it on the DRZ 400. What road is that with that long concrete slab across the creek? I don't recognize it. I live in Nunnelly about 2 miles from Highway 100, so I ride those roads all the time. Most of my riding is solo because my riding buddy won't ride when it's hot.
I'm thinking of a song that applies to them and to us both > " This Land Is Your Land" I believe it was written by Woody Guthrie. It used to be an anthem of our hearts at one time. I think a lot of top performers have released their own voice to it. I get it, those people move out to that land to get away from the crazy and we ride out to that land to get away from the crazy.
Nice, really tricky ride and well mastered. But work on your lifting technique, it´s unnecessarily hard and bad for your back to pick up the bike like you did
If anyone ever needs a video to try and talk someone out of a heavy ADV bike... this is it.
That's hilarious, I love it!
lol...that was a jeep trail fosho! good stuff
That looked like anything but fun . Well done getting through though. Bet you won’t be doing that again 😳
That grey scale dash is horrid how old is that bike
When it looks really bad on video, one can only imagine what a nightmare it must have been on that big machine. Young man riding in his church clothes and road tyres is a legend. Great vid, well done to both of u for pushing forward and hats off to u for just letting it roll down that way (how u pulled it off and not trash that T7 is to me a mystery cos those rocks were massive!!)
Thanks for sharing! Pretty brutal ride for you guys on the big bikes. Like others, I was gripped watching.
Wow, respect. Sure looks a tough ride, good job!
i highly recommend to change stock handguards to something proper like barks. Stock ones are just a plastic. I broke my break leaver.. learn from someones mistakes invest in them before its too late :P
F that!
Wow that makes exhausted just watching. Can feel the fatigue setting in. Relentless. Super impressed you guys stuck with it. We need to "gofundme" your buddy some proper riding gear. You can tell he's a youngster by his willingness to ride that rocky road without knee or shin protection. great video and riding from both of you. Curious do you notice any change in your riding when recording vs rides where you just go out without the camera?
Most of have been there.... but years ago on our Honda 125's. 480lb adventure bikes.... makes for a mis-adventure.
Depends on who's riding them.
@@C_R_O_M________ agreed... it depends if you're in the 99% who can't/shouldn't or the 1% who can.
@@MJW110 I'm getting so tired belonging to the 1% of everything!!!
a challenging path through the forest. but i love it
That isn't no road! It's a wash out. :)😮
lesson is avoid water if possible, tread the shallowest part if have to
Ps I'm exhausted, and I'm not even on my bike. Last year, I was up in a canyon quail hunting. I took a different trail back to pavement. Dropped my bike four times in sand desert soil. I said a prayer and asked God to please don't let me drop it a fifth time. I killed some good birds that day, though. Lol. Oh, btw, I ran out of water, too. Slept like a baby when I finally made it out.
Holy smoke, I don't ever want a trail like that. Ya'll got some balls. Come off that bike and you are gonna break something. Looks like some trails back home in KY. My versys would be In a ditch. A plus for effort
LOL..I hope this was a lesson learned :) I followed a young guy on an offroad adventure last year, mounted on my Tiger 800. Everything was great till it wasn't..LOL Cost me about $700 in parts and a huge shot to my ego. The top heavy tiger is now strictly limited to road and sometimes dirt road duty, and my little KLX250S gets all the dirty time. Watching you guys tackle that trail makes my knees and ankles hurt. I've heard it said many times that if it all goes as planned... its not really an adventure. Thanks for taking us along!
Looks like too much work for adventure bike, but could be fun for a dual sport or dirt bike
Wait so the Tenere 700 dident start back up you had to tow it back
That looks like a lot of fun - challenging but fun!
Looks like a good route. What software are you using ?
I create it in GPSvisualizer.com in the section called 'SANDBOX DRAWING. save that data from the 'GPX save data icon option. Then I upload it into BASECAMP '2D' [the old free version only] and click on each route to invert them all, as going in the same direction. I manually hold down the shift bar while I'm clicking on the tracks I want to join together as one. Then I rt click to connect these now highlighted tracks into one track. Export it, then load it back into GPSvisualizer 'SANDBOX to clean it up for final save. That process of using both programs on one file, bakes all the Garmin info into the file, and it bakes all smartphone apps into the file. Anybody with any device or app can use this one file now. It also cleans it up where the finished file is very small. When someone shares a file with me it's usually 1,234KB and after I re-save it from GPXvisualizer it's better and maybe only 123KB or smaller.
@@letstakearide nice work, Ill have to take a look at the visualizer. looks like the maps are very quick to navigate !!! much appreciated ! See you out there ✊
Oh my gosh, what a road. I would never drive this, even with an Alp 200. Respect 👍
What state is this? Beautiful country. From Texas.
Mid-South TN. A road called Iron Gap Rd.
T7 is a big girl to have on those trails. I’da wimped out.
Fatigue, dehydration, stress: once you go down first time, you ride intirely different, more cautious, which can lead to additional dumps.
Wow, man, what an eventful and exciting day for ya'll. Great job though taking those bikes there, you're braver than I am at the moment. Thanks for sharing this epic adventure.
Really fun watch!
I do believe I'd rather have something in the 250- 300cc range mainly for the light weight especially when I'm 67 years old. I was leaning toward the Kawasaki KLZ 300 until I sat on it. I thought I was going to have to get someone to help me get off of it. Now the choice is between the Honda CRF 300 and the Yamaha XT 250. I hear the Honda has more low-end, but the Yamaha sits lower and is lower in price. Will have to test ride them both. By the way I don't think I could walk on the trails you rode. Very good video!
Tw200 will take you to hell and back, and you could have cruised up these hills in 1st.
I made a bad decision like this myself. I did a road in similar shape to this one on a Tiger 1200, by myself. I ended up dropping it 3 times. Did about $1,000 damage. Fortunately, I was unscathed, other than sore arms and a sore back. I sure as hell know my limitations now. 🤦♂️
we need Iron Gap 2 episode !!!!! Cheers from Greece man !!!
And i thought i hate sand. I now love sand
Okay, at 51 minutes, I realized my forearms were pumped, getting ready to cramp, just from watching you.
Good thing neither bike was a Transalp. You'd have been bleeding oil.
There's no way I would take my BMW f800gs on this road, but I'd ride my KLX 300 on it all day.
Exactly, the first bad decision was getting there with a bike that's not designed for these tracks.
Get a Hodaka.
Respect guys! My biggest fear would be (if I road this kind of track, which I've never did) that it leads to a dead end. (big rock or tree blocking the road or just simple dead end) and would have to backtarck, uphill! Is is even possible with this heavy ADV bikes?
That's Jon Buffington, he and I run Let's Take a Ride LLC, and both post our vids here. In the beginning, when I started riding with Jon, I said those same words all the time. He would say "Let's Take a Ride" and take me down a road like that (I was on a 500 pound bike). I totally get it, and agree with your words!
