How to hold a Jacot tool burnisher
This video demonstrates how to hold a Jacot tool burnisher comfortably, safely, and efficiently for burnishing a wheel pivot - A huge thank you to "NickelSilver", a professional watchmaker in Switzerland having decades of experience, who generously shared this information on WRT. I can’t thank you enough!

Cap Jewel Cleaning Tool
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.2 года назад
In this video, I'll be demonstrating how I created and use my cap jewel cleaning tool. NOTE! The jewel shouldn't really be moved in circles on the watch tissue paper (as I do in the video), but in a straight line on the tissue paper to avoid dragging the jewel into an area of the paper where oil and dirt have been accumulated. Very helpful video thank you. How do you rate sapphire burnishers instead of the traditional metal ones for this kind of work? I am new to pivot polishing by the way.
Can someone please provide a link for this press? It looks great.
For a much better way to hold and use the burnisher please see: ruclips.net/video/lkq8bTGogms/видео.html
Nice! Do you have a link to the product?
@@boydsargeant7496 I’m afraid I don’t.
Thanks! Your video really helped me to understand how to use the ball. Your explanations were great!
実際にこの器具を私は購入した。これは実によく機能している。
Cool .
You mentioned that you are right handed and therefore purchased Bergeon Burnisher 2933G. However when I shop for that item, I see it listed as Left Handed burnisher and the 2933D is Right Hand. I don't know if that was a mistake or if I am not following the logic of how these tools were designed. I am left handed and would have expected 2933G to be for me.
For Jacot Tool work you will need the 2933G (listed as for left handed) if you are RIGHT handed. So, it was not a mistake and the reason I pointed it out.
Seems like its not a good idea to get one according to the previous comments 😕
Tried on all of my watches, worked on none of them! Had to stop after damaging the leather strap... This ball is scam.
Thank you for sharing!
tried mine on all 12 of my watches and it DOES not work
It does 🤷🏻♂️
Thank you so much for clarification. I've got this press standing on my desk on this very moment asking myself 'how the f...?'. Could you give me a tip on where to buy those dies? Thank you so much
@@RogerSartet007 The dies I use come from CousinsUK.com. I believe they are Korean. Very good but quite expensive.
Great video, thanks vwatchie
Great video VW! Very precise, to the point, and complete! I can't wait to try this technique! Thanks for making and posting the video!
Terrific video!
i have the same press for 5 months now i use it a lot its good
Thank you, this has provided me with good information for the crystals on the 7 Vostok watches I have waiting for service. I have a different model of screw type case press but it does the same job. Thanks again.
Great video! I just bought my first automatic, a Seiko with the 4r36 bidirectional movement. I noticed that the rotor makes a sublte bearing/zippery sound when it spins, like very fast clicks. Is it normal?
Great feeling when hearing the sound
It sounds like you already had the screw on dies before getting this tool. Does the AliX tool come with the dies or do you recommend others?
Thanks for your question and sorry for my late reply! Yes, I had the screw-on dies before getting the tool so they did not come with the AliX tool. The AliX tool comes with a few aluminium dies not shown in the video but I'm not sure how useful they are. My set of dies, which I'm very happy with, was bought at CousinsUK.com. Please use the following link for more info about the dies I'm using in the video: www.watchrepairtalk.com/topic/28825-robur-watch-crystal-press-alternative/#comment-244027
I have some plastic dies that I got with a cheap $10 lever tool and they work perfectly.
Perfect. Answered what I needed to know. Thanks!
I think youre supposed to place some kind of cloth between the glass and press die to avoid breaking the crystal--???
Good point @yambo59. What you can do is place a piece of plastic between the crystal and the die. It will prevent the crystal from getting scratched. However, there’s no risk you’ll break the crystal if you don’t.
I'm glad you're pleased with it. For the small amount of money it is a really good investment 🤟
What are you using for a bow?
Thanks for asking! I’m using a yo-yo key ring. If you get one make sure the thread is made of fabric as the nylon threads are too slippery.
@@VWatchie Thanks!
Thanks for your comment Jon! I’ve had it running for about 16 hours a day since I got it and it doesn’t get warm or show any strange behaviour. Seems like a nice “investment” for very little money 💵 I really enjoy having it.
They work really well.
Thank you for the info sir.,,,, explaining well
Wow, nice looking Jacot tool! Did you nickel plate it, or did it come that way? Don't think I've seen one looking so nice.
Thank you! Believe it or not, got it for $205 on German eBay. If you learn the names of watch tools in German and French you can save big time. It was in condition like new and included a centre wheel runner. Lucky me! 😊
@@VWatchie wow that's awesome!! Thanks for the tip!
I'm a beginner and I have bought an oiler but I was hoping to learn what the eccentric screw is for?
I cant get the one I bought to work at all
Rubber
❤
oh that's the way to testing .thanks for your information😍💯
I would say that wobble is OK :) Just a slight one.
So how u fix it
Thank you !
Thank you, for brief description 👍🙂
Is it possible to Put it on the Front Glas ?
Hey i could be wrong but i think you're also on the watch repair talk forum, if so i'm birbdad on there. I'm trying to use this thing fo rthe first time and i can't seem to get a uniform bubble with it, it's always lopsided with one part of it touching the edge of the cap jewel, i cannot get htat nice round uniform bubble like you're supposed to. I'm making sure it's clean every time i fail but wondering if you have any advice?
It looks like your technique differs slightly from the instructions included with the oiler. I see that you first push up on the button before inserting the tip into the jewel hole while the instructions say, "Introduce point of needle into jewel hole as far as allowed by steel tube. Needle thereby retracts slightly. Push up button to touch eccentric screw, then release". Did you try doing it that way?
I arrive late, where do you find a crystal replacement for a Vostok 32 case (like the one of this Amphibia)? I have two 32 Soviet Amphibia (snipers) in need of a new crystal (one has a Kommandirskie one, which has a totally different curve and results lower, the other one has a deformed crystal) Are the ones for modern Amphibia cases the same? The diameter seems to coincide.
Nice to see the beating heart. It must a have been a great feeling to see the movement come to life. I’ve bought Mark’s great value bundle of all three levels of the course, obtained a basic tool kit and now I just need the time to get cracking !
Yes, watchfix.com is a great place to learn about watchmaking. Best of luck!
Great video, brother!
Thanks, very useful!
Thank you for this, it's alot of money to buy these but when I'm thinking of it I don't really like to oil stuffs as I need to redo the dipping in the oil, cap jewel sometimes redo for hours etc. I think I'll skip manual oiling, will order this :D
so the right method is to rotate 90 or 45 degree ? also must i rotate 90 degree 4 times ?
Hi Kenny! Thanks for your question! After having demagnetized the movement the first time, rotate it 90 degrees (NOT 45 degrees as incorrectly said in the video) and demagnetize again, and that's it, you're done!
Hello, I have a watch with this bearing. It is worn and so much play is in it that the weight touches the the movement and does not work. Where on Earth can such bearing can be found as spare part? Appreciate your response, any idea?
Try a cheap 2824 running at 21600 Hz from china as a donor. Very likely it will fit.
Thanks for the tip!
Thank You! Worthwhile investment if oil can be kept long term in the pen. Also, inside of pen, dust particles from the air cannot contaminate the oils. Less oil wasted on dumping out of wells every few watches because of inevitable contamination. Perfect oiling of stubborn jewel that has been ultrasonically cleaned and clear, but refuses to be removed from watch even with a hand presser. Less worry about breaking a jewel from pressing out on rare watches that such a broken jewel cannot be easily found, save buying another watch!
