The top part of this has a standard 3/8 by 24 thread. this allows you to thread any type of whip or the cone shaped feral for stingers or a spring or another adapter or any type of standard antenna accessory. I bought both of your new ones from Amazon. I'll get to try them out soon
@@hillbillytarzan Thanks ! Thanks for your purchase. Let me know. I have two of those antennas myself, and I was surprised when I got the first one that the thread was proprietary. None of my adapters that I already had would thread on to that stud. And I did not want to use that telescopic whip that came with it I have had great results with that antenna
Nice group 👍 👌
SO, is everything virtual or is this app connected to any actual RF repeaters? If they aren't RF connected to repeaters then no ham license is required, correct?
Correct. No Ham license required. There is no RF involved in any way. There are no links or cross links or gateways to repeaters or RF simplex. This is just like Zello, only better. More geared towards the amateur community than Zello is.
@@raysult Thank you. My only concern would be the licensed ham not being very receptive to the unlicensed people.
I like the looks of the radio, but not the antenna and to be honest the price is a bit steep. Not having much luck with my other network radios, one has the play store but won't let you actually add any apps, the other radio has a firmware problem where the voice drops out after a few seconds..
Do these actually work on a cellular network, in the United States unlike the ksun radios?
Yes. The N58 and the N58 Plus are available in a specific U.S. version. Made to work just here in the United States and North America . Be sure to get the U.S. version !
Ray, How much do you want for this n58? 73 Carlos KA9JYO
Do i need a license for this ... i do not have a call sign ... hmmmm
@@adeshmanharramkissoon-amrs3528 No. No license needed. It is preferred to use an alphanumeric call sign. A call sign rather than a name or a handle

I know these units have been around well over a decade but do you still like it and are you still using it? I've always liked the look and function of them and from my research I believe it's nothing more than a surface mount 2950 DX with extra features. There are still some old/new stock still in the box for sale and I'm highly considering. Thanks...
Yes you are correct. This is exactly an older 2950 board. A 2950 from about 2011 or 2012. It does have a real vfo on it unlike the 2950. And of course it has the touch screen. And yes I've been looking at these since it first came out in 2011. This is my second one.
@@N9KGC I've been watching your vids today and ironically I have the 2547 as well. Bought it used but a great radio. I'm sure it could stand to be tweaked by a real tech because I've been annoyed by the freaky freq counter as well. A lot of poeple are turning to the Stryker 955 but but until they produce a real base radio I just can't stomach the cheesy look in my opinion. That's why I've been looking at the 618. I love the black case and size and has a ham rig look. Thanks for replying sir.
@@PhoenixRising251 did you see my videos on that Galaxy 2547 where I showed how stable the frequency is after I got it all lined up ?
@@N9KGC I did sir. Like I said I need to get mine to a real CB tech, my old tech passed away a few years back. It'll be a 2 hour drive whenever I get a chance to make that trip. I'm sure mine would stabilize once it tune properly. I have an external freq counter but no sig-gen (yet)...
@@PhoenixRising251 Ahhhh. Ok I see... Yes out of the box I was a little disappointed with it. It was both off frequency cold and warmed up. Started off high on frequency and drifted low as it warmed up And the clarifier had to be off of 12:00 to actually be on center slot..... And besides all that the digital readout was off. When I put a good frequency counter on it I realize the internal display was wrong. So it had several things wrong with it. But it's 100% correct now. After about 7 minutes of being powered on it's on frequency both receive and transmit and it never drifts again
Great video Ray. Very informative. Glad I bought the N58 Plus.

What's the difference between N58 Non plus and the Plus version?
@@ON3PLZ the plus version only available in bright green, come standard with the extended battery. The battery has a USBC charging port directly on the battery. So you can charge the battery while it's not attached to the radio. Which is very handy if you have The non-plus comes with the standard smaller battery. And yet the radio is a couple dollars more right now. And the standard battery does not have USBC charging port. You can only charge the radio in a desktop drop in

Yes, I’m on the FB group as well, don’t want miss anything!! I have a couple on Inrico’s T320 & T310. The 310 is good as it’s small enough to fit in your shirt pocket.
@@davidgames5238 I've had the Inrico t320 a while back. The N58 has the same size screen as the T320 (2.4 inch). The N58 is a little thicker. Especially with the big battery that comes on it. The regular N58 comes with a smaller standard battery. With the thicker extended battery it's slightly tougher to put in your pocket. But the battery lasts for days
We need a bit more enthusiasm from the manufacturer, perhaps they don’t see the sales potential here. I am interested to see how this week’s tests progress with Andreas, worldwide coverage would be a great bonus.
@@davidgames5238 Yes, I agree that Talkpod has not been very proactive. They developed this whole platform but haven't done anything to inform people about it. Of all the other RUclips videos reviewing this N58, none of them mention the Virtual Amateur app. When I contacted those people that did the videos they had no idea what I was talking about
Thanks for all the updates Ray, all good stuff. At some stage it would be good if users could pull up a dashboard from the server which would show areas of activity and possibly the stations that are connected. Best 73 Dave (UK) 2E0DCE

Taking my general test on Thursday and I'm Looking at this exact setup (G90 and HD 330) for a beginner/budget HF mobile rig. You still happy with that antenna or do you think it's worth paying the extra for the diamond? Rob W4DFW
I think it's still worth it. The Diamond is twice the price. There are some advantages to the Diamond.... It uses a more standard thread so you can change that whip. I made an adapter at where I work. I work at a machine shop, I was able to make an adapter so I can put different whips on there. But I still use the telescopic whip that came with it sometimes. It works fine. And I actually like the antenna so much that I bought a second one and use it at my house on the metal carport in addition to my wire antennas
Interesting about the 3 noise filters. Think the new 29 has a tone control someone referred to as like a hi cut filter.
Yes the new 29 does . And so this 2547. I should have demonstrated that too. I forgot about the variable tone adjustment
Galaxy noise filter works great for SSB the most, turn tone to far left.
Nice
OMG ! You'll have to excuse me for saying "period" after the first few sentences. I had just finished speaking a very long text message only a minute prior to that. I guess I forgot I wasn't texting any longer 😅
Did you replace the telescoping whip that comes with it? Didnt figure itd handle highway driving
It comes with two telescopic whips. One of them works a little better for 6 m. And the other one works better on 80 m. I have used both telescopic whips while driving without any real problem at all. Currently I have one on there that's non-telescopic but I made an adapter that slips over one of the telescopic ones when it's down all the way. When fully retracted it's only about 8 in or 9 in long. And my adapter slips over that tightens up with two set screws and then you can thread anything you want into that adapter. I currently have a 50 inch stainless steel whip on there
Hola amigo. Dónde conecta el RCA (PTT) a la Icom IC 7300? GRACIAS.
Can you use a mag mount antenna with this?
I have used a magnet Mount antenna with this radio but only on 10 meters. I have never used a magnet mount for other HF bands with this radio or any HF mobile that I've had.
Hello, I recently picked up a QRM eliminator and was wondering which of the RCA jacks, ALC or SEND you plugged in the PTT cable on the IC-7300?
I would absolutely NOT connect this device to the 7300 to use the PTT active switching. The circuitry in these inexpensive devices like this cannot be trusted with something like the 7300.
When I first turn mine on sometimes it will not receive.
Hi there, You have a lot of radios in your truck, curious to see a walk around review of your setup.
I will try to do a video showing the radios installed in my Ford F-150. Thanks for watching 👍
I just recently picked up the radio myself. And I will say it is a very nice radio especially the digital receive. And yes you're right the service menu you can really customize the radio in a manner that you like and your amplifier likes LOL. My only complaint with the radio is the RJ45 connector. I wish they would have went with a four-pin or maybe even a 5 Pin like the President radios.
Mine does 70 watts on ssb out of the box 50 watts on am
If you have the NEW version of the 5555N then yes it will do 60 to 70 watts. The old original version does less.
I recently made a 6515 kms contact to Belarus with 15 watts from G90, amazing little radio 73
