Applying Solarez I Can't Believe It's Not Lacquer to Guitar Body & Neck
I've had good luck with Solarez's ICBINL in the past when grain filling and sealing bodies. This one shows the process, albeit edited. I've used a brush, a card, and my fingers (with gloves!) for this process, and by hand is by far the best for me. The card works well for very light passes, but brushing produced too many bubbles, and spreading by hand gave the best coverage. Let it sit for 30 seconds before exposing it to UV light and it will lay flat better.
Next step is SPRAYING NITRO!!!!!! STAY TUNED!

Oxford Nitrocellulose Sanding Sealer & Filler - Fender ST-68 Refinish
Просмотров 237Месяц назад
I followed the Oxford company's directions but their sanding sealer/filler wasn't quite high build enough for this guitar's grain, so I'm turning to Solarez and using their "I Can't Believe It's Not Lacquer!" product for filling in what little grain remains. Plus a look at the necks in the shop waiting to be finished!

YES, you CAN sand the finish off a guitar neck by hand. It just takes some good sandpaper and a lot of patience and elbow grease. I used a 120 and 240 grit papers to sand down to the bare wood. Next up is doing the same to the body and prepping both body and neck for a new NITRO FINISH!

    How do the pickups stay mounted in the guitar? Wouldn't putting them in the wood only allow them to stay in one place without stripping the hole in the wood?

    • @burresseffects
      @burresseffects 2 года назад

      The screws are actually long enough to allow for height adjustment. Typically there's a piece of foam under the pickup providing upward pressure, and you just adjust the screws to adjust height like you would on a guitar with mounting rings. Eddie Van Halen actually preferred direct-mounting, and a lot of other players swear by it too.

    • @burresseffects
      @burresseffects 4 года назад

      Bagus SW Hey there! This one was made in Indonesia. I really need to do an update video as I’ve had it for almost a year and I’m very pleased with it, but there was an issue I’d like to address that I think potential buyers could benefit from.

    • @BagusWibisono

      how do you think about this guitar you’ve had it for a year? it’s great guitar and quality?

    • @burresseffects
      @burresseffects 4 года назад

      Bagus SW When I was setting it up I noticed a couple of high frets (4 and 5 I think), and while I was annoyed that I had to spot level them, it’s not actually that uncommon among guitars even in the $700 to $1000 range. Still, I’d rather have not had to do any fret work whatsoever for an $899 guitar. That said, in every other respect it has shined. The compound radius of the neck and the ebony fretboard make it a fast player, and while I don’t really use the coil splits at all, it’s a nice feature to have, and the Duncan pickups sound great. I appreciate the extra stability of the Tonepros bridge/tailpiece, and the locking tuners make string changes that much faster. So yeah, I’m still impressed with it!

    • @burresseffects
      @burresseffects 4 года назад

      Daniel Rodriguez Yo Daniel! I have a feeling you’ll be pleased! My favorite Duncan pickup for modern metal is actually the Black Winter, but the LTD’s Duncan Pegasus has been great. I like a lot of definition between strings so the mids and high end really sparkle, and the Pegasus fits that bill great. The Sentient is also fine and dandy for neck tones, though I tend to use it more for cleans. So sorry to hear about your rig!

    • @DanielRodriguez-eh1qd
      @DanielRodriguez-eh1qd 4 года назад

      Blake Burress I watched a comparison video of different modern pickups including the black winter and man I really liked it. I’m enjoying the set that came in the MH1000 though. Sound pretty good and also have better cleans. Plus the coil split makes them very nice however I don’t like the volume decrease when using them. So I never use the coil split at a gig only when jamming and writing at home. The neck pickup of ok when using gain, not my favorite but in the neck position with the coil split for cleans sounds awesome.

      Hey Sky. The neck is about average for a Les Paul type guitar. I’ve noticed recent model Epiphones have a thinner tapered neck these days. The Agile is more vintage styled with a rounder 50’s style neck. Hope that helps. You can get Agile guitars from Rondo Music but I recommend looking at Harley Benton guitars too.

    • @burresseffects
      @burresseffects 6 лет назад

      Sky M. Well, if sound quality is the most important factor, I’d recommend trying out whatever models you’re interested in at a guitar shop and comparing them to find what you like best as “best sounding” is pretty objective and you’ll be the one playing it, after all. That’s a great opportunity to see how the guitars feel too. How it feels in your hands and how much it weighs will affect your decision too. I played a a bunch of Gibson and Epiphone Les Paul’s to compare to the Agile, and it felt closest to an older Gibson. That is to say the thicker rounder neck as I mentioned before, and it was fairly heavy since it’s all mahogany with no weight relief. I like the feel of a Les Paul, and I don’t mind a (literally) heavy guitar so that was fine for me. The pickups that came with the Agile sounded pretty good to my ears. It’s possible to get a dud with Agile as with any brand, and that’s why I recommend trying out some guitars in person. At least try some Epiphone Les Pauls and maybe some LTD and PRS SE single-cuts. I don’t know how hard it is to do a return/exchange through Rondo Music, so consider that too.
