AEON LASER Custom Gift for my doctor's office
What machine is that??
Its the Shapeoko 5 PRO 2x4
The foam you referenced does not come in 2” black. What would you recommend as I am thinking of doing this for one of my rifles?
It does right at the top of the page www.thefoamfactory.com/closedcellfoam/cross-linked-polyethylene-foam.html
Nice sure wish I had the ballscrews on my shapeoko pro..
Getting ready to sell mine to upgrade to a 10x5 So if you're close to Michigan I will give you a fair price
The indents on the black foam would annoy the shit out of me especially for a few hunge. Otherwise good stuff
hey I recommend you try co2 laser cutting machine
It melts that foam I have 2 C02 lasers
Curious how you manage the vectors from an image. Do you import into Inkscape and convert to vector there? I'd be interested in that process. Thanks for the content.... greatly appreciated.
That will work too.
I'm here for the music. Just the music.
52K views in just one month? You're not the only one........LMAO
Is this the black polyethylene that you used? The smallest I saw on that website was 1/4”, is that correct? I think it was 2:2 lb. and $7:99 for a 54” x 24”

How big of foam can you get to cut out and how much do you charge?
My machine is 2x4 so I can cut 24" x 50" peice I charge $200 for that size
Nice! I'm in Warren Michigan and I have a Zenbot CNC, Davinci Duo 3D printer modded to RAMPS and several laser engravers. Have you tried lasering the foam yet?. Trade ya subs, lol!
I haven't really felt the need for 3D printing just yet I have a MUTOH 661UF UV printer, one Mira 9 lasers, and a 50 watt GALVO My web site is MAGCASTLE.com
Yeah we want to see a vector trace program!! Anyone have any (free) ideas that works well for Shapeoko/Carbide3D?? 🤔 🤷♂️

Bonjour très beau travail, je fait aussi de la mousse a mon boulot et je vous conseil de faire le contour en seulement 2 passe pour avoir une coupe propre et net
Salut, Merci Je vais essayer et voir comment ça se passe.

Kaizen ?
Whats your question?
Thank you for answering. Just Rob. I am gonna fix my display name now.
10 Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? 11 Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness. 12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God (The Great I AM, YHVH, El Shaddai, Adonai, God of Jacob, Isaac, and Abraham). John 3:10-18
14:26 burrs?? That’s deflection
Thanks Pop. Very helpful. Can you also share how you scale in X and Y axis? Appreciate the fine work you are doing!!
Will Do....Thanks
What’s the foam you use for the gun cases and where do you buy it? Thanks
@@robertmilner6491 Links in description
Vectric software for cnc’s will do a pretty good job of tracing the outline automatically… cleanup is usually needed. There’s also a program called “ vector magic”. Used that when I first started with a vinyl cutter years ago. Pretty good tracing capability. But you seem pretty comfortable with what you’re using.
Fantastic. Thanks for sharing!!!!
Great videos. Really enjoy your technique. Can you go more into the software and scaling? I using Fusion 360 and tried cutting my gun case foam and scaling took forever. I took a picture and then traced the picture in F360. I struggled to get X and W scaled properly. would love to hear your insight. Thanks,
Thanks Yes I plan my next video on How to Trace and vectorize soon Best, Pop's
@@popshobbydungeon thanks Pal! Very informative!
CA glue seems to be more expensive then double stick tape or your spray adhesive
It would NOT BE Less expensive because you would have to use soooooo much double-sided sticky tape to hold down the foam You can't just use a few strips when cutting 2-inch thick foam. Foam moves and stretches while cutting pockets so you need it to be as ridged as possible!!! Regards, Pop's
I own a few Cnc Machines I’ve been trying to find thick 5' x 10' x 2" thick or more , foam board for my 5' x 10' Avid Cnc ....
cool video
I like when you just post projects, able to see cnc at work. I don't like when people explain about the cnc controller, why do want to know that.
Thanks Im not really good at speaking on camera so I just keep it simple However, I will be doing a Video where I explain my process how to trace and create a vector soon
If you want to save your table and bits, you really need a spoils board under it. What I use for my saws, drill bits, router bits is the purple/pink house insulation foam. If it’s supported, it will take a lot of even weight. Keep in mind they put this under concrete floors these days to help insulate them. The foam is very robust. I use a panel saw all the time and I have a 4’ x 8’ sheet cut into two halves for easier storage. I put them on top of my work bench and I have little straps to hold it in place. I can now over cut into the my foam spoils board and not dull the edge on whatever tool it is. Same with drilling. It keeps you from getting blow out and doesn’t dull your bit.
Great that the heat gun method works fine for you 👍 Maybe, instead of using the tape and glue fixturing every time, you could make a simple grid and cord vacuum table for these foams. At least if you do a lot of these inlays it might pay off. For larger cut-through areas a semi permeable cardboard like a VacuCard prevents loss of vacuum. I have a few posts over on Insta, cutting foam on vacuum, just in case you wanna see 😉 Also, I would recommend to touch off Z0 not on the top of the foam, but on top of the fixture plate, means bottom of the foam. That way you can avoid cutting into your fixture plate. The foam might not have the exact same height as in your CAD system, causing the endmill to go too deep. These foam cutters tend to get dull at the tip quickly when they cut through wood instead of foam. In any case...awesome work 👍
Thanks for all of your advise I agree that I should be doing Z0 on the table instead of the top of the foam I didn't realize that the foam is not perfectly the same in all spots so Great Advice Best Regards, Pop's
Hi from a fellow Michigander. I also have a hobby dungeon. Mostly CNC wood working.
Awesome Nice to meet you All the best, Pop's
thanks pop, big help you are, greetings from the Netherlands
Oh Awesome Hello to the Netherlands <3
Am I mistaken, is that a different bit than you used in the previous video? Btw…. All the tape and ca stiffen up the bottom and make it a little ridged and reduces the flex. I haven’t cut foam yet, but I’ve got mechanical and materials engineering background. Good video, even the error. (Real life, not staged like so many)
No its the same bit It's dirty and needs cleaning for sure Also might be getting dull for all the abuse Grinding into the wooden bed Best regards, Pop's
Been there however I had to scrap the piece and start over. This is why I never leave the machine alone…well I put a WiFi camera on it so I can run to the bathroom if needed.
Thats a great idea
Do you have a problem with static? Excellent video. Not a lot of bs.
Not really haven't had that problem yet
Very cool! Your video came up as a play next and while I've been into 3D printing for a while, I've never seen this. What kind of CNC do you have, or did you DIY one?
It's the Shapeoko 5 Pro (2x4) There are many hobby Machines out there But this one has the best American tech support & for the first 30 days if anything breaks (Including Bits), they replace it overnight no questions asked............Fantastic Oh, plus their software "Carbide Create" is free and easy to use and learn Best, Pop's

Where did you get that foam
Link in discription
That is very cool. Man those foam sheets are expensive.. $157 (+ shipping) for one 72x48. That is insane. You can bring it down to half that if you buy 40 at a time, but dang.. that's still very expensive.
Yeah but thats why i charge $200 per case I can get 4 1/2 cases out of one sheet so that a pretty good markup don't you think?
@@popshobbydungeon Ooh that is. If you buy in bulk thats 9 cases unless you are buying in bulk. Either way, nice deal.
@@popshobbydungeon So the question is.. do you have enough to live on the profits.. and enough business for daily work to cut them.. or just a few one offs here and there?
@@b3owu1f So I have this machine, 2 Laser machines and a flat bed printer so I can make anything, and I do !!! Check out my websites www.acrylicmemories.com wwwMagcastle.com Best, Pop's
Have you tried this with a laser to cut out? How does it look?
Laser would melt and fuse the edge making it a hard melted surface
@@popshobbydungeon Yeah, i figured. I have a 100Watt C02 laser i thought about trying it out. But wondered about the melting and the smell and how it would mess up my optics.
@@user-zq6pj5jo8j I also have a 100 watt MIRA 9 and yes if you were to laser engrave this foam it would be messy but also toxic and probably catch on fire That why I bout a CNC to do the jabs that a laser can not regards, Pop's
@@popshobbydungeon Ok Nice. i have the Thunder Nova 35 100watt. I love it. Great system
You know I've never used a compression bit for anything except cutting through sheets of plywood. In my mind it had to be used for cutting all the way through the material! I do learn something new every day.
Frankly Im not sure Im happy with the cut I noticed these lines in the sides of the wood. They weren't hard to sand out but I think I will stick with Spiral bits for the finer work
Great stuff mate!
Looks great! I use awesome spray for cleaning everything around the house bathroom and kitchen and laser junk lol dont let it set on a painted surface though it will remove paint and finish.
There is very little side force when cutting foam. I cut xl-pe for work all the time. Sometimes i just tape around the perimeter to the spoil board. I also use clamps. If I don't have enough space around the edges, i make a slit into the side of the foam and put the clamp there. I now have a vacuum set up and it is significantly better than all other methods. CA glue and tape is the so slow and unnecessary for foam. You can also rough with a bigger bit and finish the walls with a smaller bit. It's foam, be really aggressive with your feeds and speeds and your depth of cut. I'd probably rough with with a 1/2" at 1" doc or more.
Actually.... When I tried cutting MAG wells one inch close to each other and didn't use the FULL tape and glue method The mag wells stretched and didn't cut straight (Maybe because of my feeds and speeds) Because there wasn't enough surface tension to keep them in place !!!! From my 2 years of cutting Foam, I recommend taping the entire surface to the bed (It only takes 6 minuets) especially when cutting all the way thru and close pockets I want to build a Vacuum Bed someday but first I have to install my 2.2k water-cooled spindle
Very, very interesting. Thank you for the video.
