Do you REALLY Need a Filament Dryer for your 3D Printing?
In this video I test four types of filaments; PLA, PETG, TPU, and ABS for their sensitivity to moisture by soaking them in water for 7 days! Then I dry them using three different filament dry boxes so you will want to see the surprising results. This video is brought to you by PCBWay, your one-stop-shop for PCB’s, injection molding, 3D printing and other services. Check them out at pcbway.com/g/5uwW1e

Nice comparison! I just ordered a Bambu Labs A1. I don't know if it was available when you made this video, but it is the same as the X1C in the areas that are important.. Plus, it's a fraction of the price.
Thank you for this detailed video! Have you come up with a video describing how to create your own designs?
Would the Bambu Lab Top Glass Riser LED w/Shield be needed if I am going to have the AMS Riser?
I’m not sure what you mean about the “AMS Riser”. Can you clarify?
omg had to stop watching because of the damn DING 🛎️ DING 🛎️ SOUND!!! my gawd.
You can disable the chinese server connection and just use lan, very important if security is an issue for you.
worst thing i can say about this printer is that it can never detect that material has ended, it always get's stuck on roll. I heard that some people just put material on top with diy printed holders
Question - I have this rotary pro unit and am having trouble centering my cups on the end at the spinning cup is...how do you suggest to center your cups so they rotate true?
I use the jaws on the headstock to hold the outside of the rim of my cups and I push the rim of the cup so it makes contact with the "face" of the jaws of the chuck, then tighten the jaws. Next, I move the tailstock up to the bottom of the cup and hand-rotate the cup to ensure it is centered. Then, I put pressure on the tailstock toward the cup bottom while tightening up the tailstock. I hope this helps. Thanks for your question.
What a great video, thank you so much sir.
I’m glad you liked the video. Thanks for your feedback!
Copy the firmware files on USB drive and stick it to the machine to update - cumbersome? What is this world turning into!?
I just ordered this printer based on your review, thank you for such an informative video Have you done the video on the lazy Susan yet? I'd like to get that done ASAP. Do you have a parts list that you used for the locking knobs in the lazy susan? Thanks again!
I'm sorry for my delayed reply. I lost track of your request, but I was able to dig up the hardware I used. I purchased the parts from McMaster-Carr. Turntable: 12.8" diameter round turntable, P/N 18635A52. Steel Knurled Knob, 1/4"-20 threads, 1.75" long, P/N 6079K15. I cut two 24" x 24" x .75" pieces of plywood and mounted the turntable and threaded inserts to the plywood. I hope this helps.
That is one interesting printer. Congrats on being one of the first to have a production unit! PS You have a very good Rhode mike, but somehow the audio is off. For example inhales are VERY loud, but voice sounds muffled. Guess there must me a configuration issue somewhere? Sounds like boosting is active at the same time as limiting or something...
Yes, I have received several comments regarding the audio of this video. I'm not exactly sure of the solution, but I do need to find a solution so thanks for your constructive feedback.
card scrapers, and hexane accelerator for CA glue. With this accellerator you can glue nylon(!), PLA, and any other plastic I've tried (I haven't tried HDPE but most of us aren't printing that. I really like the sand paper cutter design.
Thanks for your suggestions and for your feedback!
Thank you for the great advice, seriously well presented. I just picked up my X1C today. Going through the amazon list, is the "Vertical Heat Press Machine" absolutely necessary for the spool switcher/rewinder?
No, it’s not necessary, but you will need a solder iron to add the metal inserts. The press just makes it easier to put the inserts straight in the holes. Good luck with your X1C!
I use 99% IP because it stays higher percentage for longer, and I can also use it in my alcohol lamp for heating wax working tools (to use on PLA) great video! (it might help in future to tune your mic settings with a tool like SteelseriesGG or at least run a filter pass when editing)
Thanks for your feedback
so, 17+minutes video about products you have never touched, bold
My son and i own anycubic kobra pro....its a tinker . We knows by now how to fix everything on that machine. We are both in IT fields and after long days of troubleshooting we dont want to come home and deal with more troubleshooting. We could have get the prusa if we want their hq is about 3 to 4 hrs away from us but we pick x1c because of plug and play.
Thanks for sharing your comment!
I want to go for the mk4 so bad, but tech-wise. The Bambu is ahead. Prusa really fell asleep at the wheel.
I understand how you are conflicted. I’m not trying to influence your decision, but I just learned that Bambu Lab is having their 2 year anniversary sale so I have never seen their printers this low in cost. Good luck with your decision.
love this guy - very calming, which i need right now. nothing bothers him
Wow, that’s very kind of you. Thank you very much for your comment!
thanks! really helpful. You hit some important points that the instruction manual skips over
I’m glad you found the video helpful. Thanks for your feedback!
very nice and thank you for your good instrucion!!! rly wow
I’m glad you liked the video. Thanks for your feedback!
I really like its design since I usually rewind a lot of filament and I had to do it with a drill, one question: how much filament did the project take?
I don’t remember exactly how much filament I used to make the filament rewinder. I think it was less than a kg.
Thanks for the video, 2nd watch. Any chance of a follow-up?
Coincidentally, I’m working on my follow-up Magneto X video as we speak. I hope to have it uploaded within 2 weeks. Thanks for asking!
might want to actually watch what you edit as this video is unwatchable becorse of all the high whoos you have all the damn time
Thanks for the great video mate. Im torn between bambu and xmax. I want to print ABS and other stronger materials. How is the X1C at printing those vs XMAX
I have found both the X1C and the XMax do well with ABS. For consistent quality I give edge to the X1C. Thanks for your comment!
@@ristinnovations Thanks for the reply mate i appreciate the information and experience
The X1 carbon does not have a heated chamber though.
sounds like christopher walken

On the second, right most screw to mount the external filament holder, there is already a screw in that spot. It's rather hard to unseat. Am I supposed to remove that one and insert the new short one provided in the pouch? It's kind of hard to make out in the video.
Yes, that’s what I recall. The two holes in the spool holder should line up with the two screw holes on the printer. You can zoom the video to see it better. Thanks for the question.
Greetings to chef😃 Really helpful!
omg it’s Christopher Walkin! thanks for this. I was so lost.
Lol, Another fan of “Christopher Walkin”😊. I wish we were related. Thanks for your comment!
I was analyzing your RUclips channel and I saw your channel. The videos are very beautiful and your channel's subscribers are good but your video SEO score very Low.
Well congratulations I see many videos but this one is very important about safety because I see many people don’t appreciate the fingers because don’t use proper protection specially for kik back wood which can kill you and many people taja that for granted thanks my friend it was honestly very good video I hope other people see this and realise how important is working whit wood how dangerous become in the process I like to keep my fingers first an my life work whit wood is enjoy situation convert a piece wood in something amazing to the eyes of someone people any way I will take all this vídeo especially this one today to Colombia to show my friend to see because few years back have and accident and finish up in hospital piece wood stack in he chest kick back in Colombia no carpenter use this safety measures the can no afford tha is to expensive there but you can make your self any way I say hello from London England 🏴 thanks again 🙏👌
I’m glad you liked the video. Thanks for taking the time to provide your detailed feedback!
Looks like the light is sold out at amazon.
Do you need both sets of corner brackets (lines 6&7) ? Looks like they are essentially identical other than the number of screws required to fasten them.
That’s a good question. The 4-screw corner brackets have T-nuts that can only be mounted by sliding in the end of the extrusions. The 2-screw version allow you to rotate the T-nuts in the extrusions without having to slide them down from the end of the extrusions. I hope this answers your question.
@@ristinnovations it does, from an assembly standpoint, you would need to make sure you slid in all your t-nuts at the very beginning if you stuck with the four screw version. Since you need two sets worth of brackets, it makes sense to buy both. Thank you for your reply!
So going through your directions the counts for the brackets appears to be off. I counted 14 2-screw brackets and 22 4-screw brackets.
I can't believe people are debating if owning something that needs to be constantly fixed is preferable to one that just works so you can use it....
Another printing newbie here to thank you for such a detailed quick start. You've got yourself a sub!
I’m glad you found the video helpful. Thanks for your feedback (and sub)😊

Thanks for your positive feedback!
hi, thanks ! can you share your setting to engraver all of this ? thanks
Can this fit a creality ended 3 s1 pro ?
I agree and just bought a Prusa MK4 factory reassembled and it works great.
Very informative 💯🙏🫶
I’m glad you liked it!
Great Video - special greetings to chef Luigi with his great cooking skills.
Lol, Chef Luigi is my “twin”😊. Thanks for your comment!
I like it, great video but i gonna try to build a fullly enclosure
Sounds good. I think Bambu Lab doesn’t recommend a full enclosure because the electronics wouldn’t be protected so you may want to look into that further.
HAHAHA!! Love the chef performance. Thank you SO much for this valuable information. Really helpful.
I’m glad you liked my twin, Chef Luigi😂. Thanks for your positive feedback!
Great video! Thanks for sharing the results you found. I just bought a Bambu X1C and transitioning out of pla filament.
You are welcome! Good luck with your X1C.
I own Prusa clone printer (not that hard to make since it is open source). I used bear frame for it, dragon hotend, every part I have is slightly better, despite stepper motors - these are the same. It costed me less than 500 bucks. And the hardware is slightly better than stock. So for me clones are way to go - but of course it comes with quite a bit of tinkering and basicaly zero consumer support since I`m not anyones consumer lol.
And I forgot to mention, it`s ugly AF since printed parts are made from brown filament - looks like crap, quite litteraly.
It sounds like you have quite a talent to assemble your own printer!
@@ristinnovations friend of mine does actually. I own it but I am not the one who assembled it :D
PLA and especially silk variations of PLA become brittle when they have absorbed moisture and this can be fixed by drying the spool. I've had extreme examples where the silk PLA filament kept breaking during a single print to the same spool after drying being trouble free.
Hi Steve, you bring up a great point regarding the silk PLA. Thanks for your feedback.
Thanks for the information! I was thinking about getting a filament drying box, but I have only recently started 3D printing, and haven't progressed beyond PLA yet. I also live in the UK, where it isn't often too humid (wet, but not humid!) I keep my opened filament in vacuum sealer bags with dessicant, so only ever have one roll out at any time (no AMS on my A1 Mini!) I will just carry on as I am for now!
Hi Paul, In your case it sounds like you have a great system for managing your PLA. If you expand to other materials you may need a filament dryer, but I agree with you that for now you don’t need a dryer. Thanks for your ongoing support of watching my videos😊
Thanks Ken! I like following your channel, as you keep things simple enough for beginners like me to understand! 😳 Keep up the good work! 👏
Luigi! 😂
I’m glad you liked him😊
Thanks for your video. When using the " PTFE Extruder Bracket" is it then still possible to close the lid on top of a X1C printer?
Yes, I have my glass top on my printer and it has been working great for several months. Thanks for your comment!
