Hand splitting axe-bucked wood with a CASTERMAN AXE & TOOL TIMBERPILOT axemanship
326 swings in this video. It was only 90 degrees Fahrenheit today, but the heart rate got up often. 2,889 total swings for the TIMBERPILOT at this point. 16:45 and the 20 minute mark are pretty good.
Axemanship on display today.

    Please refer to your cleaner spray correctly! It is/was not brake line cleaner. Brake line cleaner will destroy most any plastic parts it contacts. Just saying it as you’re using it can have the effect of those watching to use the wrong cleaner.

    The first thing I generally do is put fuel directly into the carb Venturi. The plugged spark arrestor is why I test by fueling the carb directly and not jump into the carb first. I have had many that I cleaned the arrestor and it fired up and then simply tuned the carb correctly. If it fires then I’ve weeded out the engine and can concentrate on the fuel/ carb/fuel lines.

    Even though it’s a Zama Chinese manufactured carb it’s not as bad as the general aftermarket ones. These are made under stronger guidelines.

    Just because we think of axes as pulpwood processors now doesn't mean they weren't often used for very difficult and large timber. There's some great data here. Could you estimate the time spent on bucking and felling so far? I think this could show a little about about how hard a man would have worked in the old days when only equipped with an axe. The swing numbers being in the several thousands is very impressive. When I have a tough time bucking the wood I often times have an even worse time trying to split. I hope the splitting is easier this was a tall mountain to climb!

    • @Brian2bears
      @Brian2bears 6 дней назад

      @ethicalaxe I have 48 hours total time at this point, Mr. Ethical. The low stump portion impaired me greatly. A high stump would have greatly accelerated the process. The eight hundred swing video was done in the early a.m. hours before noon when the sun would have been coming through the canopy straight down on me as in the other vids. I was very inefficient on one notch with over 200+ swings on it. The pine broke many stereotypes but reinforced "tough as a pine knot." I think we can know the answer to your question today. Some of us knew and still know people who are doing this today... Some by necessity, some by choice... As for the splitting, you may be spot-on... Thank you for watching and commenting sir, excellent thoughts...

    • @ethicalaxe
      @ethicalaxe 6 дней назад

      @Brian2bears I believe 48 hours of swinging that axe is similar to running multiple marathons. Beyond impressive. You've already won the cordwood challenge, in my opinion. This softwood was not soft at all. In emergency situations, I am glad I can depend on an axe. I believe they're still viable in modern times but nearly nobody can do what you've done already in this series. I'm excited to see you finish this herculean task.

      @ethicalaxe Doubtful sir...the Cordwood Men always turn out impressive work...Gumboot in Alaska is doing this to survive...there may be others... Anyone who participates wins... The TIMBERSPORTS men and women train well beyond what is shown here, and within more restrictions...

    If your saw is running and you trip the chain brake just to keep the chain from turning you will burn up your clutch springs and possibly your clutch and drum. If your chain is spinning then tune the carb so it will stop if you haven’t already ruined the clutch springs and then the chain will always turn until you fix the clutch. The brake is for an emergency and not for your convenience.

    • @Brian2bears
      @Brian2bears 8 дней назад

      @magicone9327 in the video you commented on, there is no chain. The saw is not started, the chainbrake is not engaged. The first start and run of this saw a link is provided. I do not set the chainbrake on the first start, and the chain does not move at idle. As far as proper procedure for chainbrakes, it should be engaged while starting and anytime a person is moving with a running saw. There are many clutch videos on this channel, and much running footage where the chainbrake is used and not used... ruclips.net/video/wznxtP5_2NU/видео.htmlsi=pNPLGnArXn_7yUeT

      @@Brian2bears anytime the saw is running and the brake is engaged the clutch continues to spin and gets very hot against the stopped drum. Worked in woods for many years and when the brakes become standard some learned the hard way from engaging the brake for convienence rather than shutting the saw off if it was dangerous to carry the running saw. A saw with a correct carb tune will not spin the chain unless the clutch springs are shot.
