    I’ve recorded most of these heads and I will say I used the PS3 clear for years. I decided to try the evans equivalent clear EQ4. The Evans is smoother and has a better defined attack than the PS3. The EQ3 is killer as well. I never gave evans a chance until I had multiple Remo heads split at the collar. I’ve tried many of the Aquarian heads as well. The attack characteristics evans heads have is unlike other brands with my experience. I don’t have experience with live use, just the recording side.

    Why didn't you connect all your CAPIs through ADC/ D SUB Line inputs of the ASP880? Unlike the TRS line inputs, these will bypass all the circuitry and get you straight to the converters. This way you could actually switch between the ASP or external pres via the ADC button on the front, and you would keep the same conversion accross

    Dude, your preamp rig is basically exactly what I'm going for rn. I just bought a wa73, then slurged on a stereo pair of API 312's, and I've owned a an LA610 before and know they're killer tube vibes- so my goal is to have the neve clone for vocals, the api's for guitar and drums, and the la610 for bass or really just anything I feel like because it's so F good on anything.

    Quick question: In around 36:30 you move to the testing phase but I did not find the p jack soldering and tremolo grounding phase, can you please clarify? Also in that phase you say we should twist the black and white wires (plural) together but according to my understanding the souls be one white wire and one black wire remaining. And those souls go to the jack Thanks ❤

    Because I did'nt have a .047uf cap for my Strat I had to use a .1uf Jensen ( yellow+blue) from an old radio. I could not believe how it changed the tone even when the tone pot was on 10, I really liked it because the tone pot (CTS 250k Linear) became extra sensitive, just 1 notch down and the tone kicked in. I found a .033uf "Admiral" cap UK made and put that in later and it works beautifully but that old Jensen was amazing. I changed it because it was just too big but I learned that I prefer physically larger caps for the middle and bridge on a Strat. The fun is (as the man said) in trying various designs and values. If you can find the "WIMA" rectangular caps try them, for some reason the red .047uf adds extra springyness to a Strat.

    I know how to swap pickups, pretty easy Tone and Volume pots are the same! I bought 3 Fender 500K pots for my Stratocaster, gonna change them at the same time as I change my mid pickup when it arrives! Never changed pots before but all you need is your phone, take a picture of the wiring, solder off the wirings and capacitor, unscrew the pots, screw in the new pots, solder on the new capacitor, take the two extra capacitors ( every pot comes with 1 capacitor ) put them in a drawer and have them as reserve and just solder back the wirings as they were, and voila 😀

    • @roycox4415
      @roycox4415 2 месяца назад

      Yes you do want to run a wire from pot to pot to pot. This wire then gets grounded to the back of the trem claw or block. You are creating a grounding loop basically. I have another video on my channel about installing the input jack which talks about lot about grounding as well.

    So I'm confused. Can I ask two things? So, Isnt there a way to set the Bias of an Amp with just the Multimeter, without having to use bias probes? Like with just using your regular multimeter probes? Because when I tried biasing my 900 for the first time, I had some help, and I just remember having to have the black probe on the chassis, and touching the red probe to a leg of a certain resistor, or the bias test point, and then setting the bias until I got a certain reading on the MM. Like within the recommended bias number as per Marshall, and then I made small tweaks while playing to decide where I wanted it. Second, so is using bias probes just a more in depth elaborate way to bias the amp, or a way to get a better average if tubes are not matched or something? So the process is, If your using those Bias Probes, are you just getting the plate voltage first(with the normal MM probes), then sticking the bias probe in one of the Sockets with the tube in the bias probe, doing the math, and then setting the bias trim pot, while that same tube is in the bias probe, and then thats it? That's what I don't get, because it seems odd to me that you only need to use the Bias Probe with one tube, but then if you do for some reason use it with every tube, and each tube reads different, or is unmatched, then how do you set it since theres only one trim pot? You just take an average of all the tube bias readings first? Like what I mean is say you set the bias to 44 with the first tube, and then go to the second tube and it's not 44, how can you set it to 44, without the other one drifting? Also, don't you need to get the plate voltages for all the different tube sockets? I guess so I'm not confusing you by babbling, Im just confused, because in the video it looks like you are getting the PV off one socket, putting the probe in one socket, getting a Bias reading, doing the math, and then setting the Bias while the bias probe is in that same socket/tube, and thats all there is to it.

    Loved the video, even though I can't take some of the preamp talk seriously with the "controlled low end" etc. Especially after watching some great interface reviews that show that almost all modern, even cheap, preamps and ADCs are super linear with extremely low distortion.

    • @roycox4415
      @roycox4415 3 месяца назад

      i absolutely found the same thing and thought there were absolutely no differences in any preamps, etc. Then i added a set of the capi vp25 preamps and the difference in the fullness of the kick drum outside microphone was vastly different between the capi and the presonus built in preamps i was using at the time. There are a lot of preamps where i cant tell the difference, some preamps i cant tell the difference unless its compiled with a bunch of tracks together like with an entire kit recorded with the audient preamps and then the the capi. Again a big difference in tone to me. Then there are preamps where i absolutely couldn't tell the difference at all. There is definitely a reason that foo fighters track through the old neve board rather than off the shelf interface preamps. The difference is that the interfaces nowadays all track really well so in many cases there isnt a huge need to have higher end preamps unless those minor differences matter to you.
