"While shepherds watched their flocks by night
All seated on the ground
The angel of the Lord came down
And glory shone around
Sweet bells, sweet chiming Christmas Bells
Sweet bells, sweet chiming Christmas Bells
They cheer us on our Heavenly way
Sweet chiming bells
Fear not, said He
For mighty dread had seized their troubled minds
Glad tidings of great joy I bring
To you and all mankind

Прекрасное исполнение прекрасной мелодии. Жаль, что нет полного альбома с записями этого композитора. Поздравляю всех любителей классической музыки с наступившим Новым годом! Пусть сбудутся Ваши добрые намерения и пожелания.
Thank you Mr H……beautiful music and pictures
I like to think that people made music and paintings like this for future generations like ours, to help us cope with the way the world’s heading.
Hello David, Thank you for this beautiful look into the past, George Clausen depicted so well the life of simple people.. Over my life i have been privileged to encounter his paintings, either in the form of a simple postcard, or a page in a book, and at the Royal Academy in Piccadilly. Thank you for triggering my memories. What a different place is our World today ! Vaughn Williams, well, how can his music be bettered? All in all, thank you David. Happy 2025.❤️ Best love, Valerie.
And a very Happy New Year to you and yours Valerie. I too love Sir George Clausen's paintings; his characters are so vivid, I always find myself wondering what their lives were like and how they unfolded. Best wishes.
Jan 1st 2025. I have just discovered your channel and what a marvellous start to the new year!! I'm not sure what more can be said about Vaughn William's masterpiece, but the Clausen paintings are stunning. Why Clausen isn't more celebrated I can't imagine. He reminds me so much of that other great recorder of rural life from an earlier age, Jean Francois Millet. By the way, which recording of the Tallis Fantasia is this? Warmest regards from beautiful Shropshire , and thank you for making my day.
Hi Frank, glad you enjoyed the video. The recording is by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Bryden Thomson.

Gracias David...lo tuyo es magnifico...gracias
Un placer, me alegro de que hayas disfrutado del video Fernando.
Wow! Jo Stafford's version of this classic melody will last forever and never be forgotten. This ranks right up there with Vera Lynn's version of 'We'll Meet Again'.
Thank you for this Christmas song, it's different from your usual postings, but I love it equally :)
Pleasure, glad you enjoyed it.
One of the greatest music compositions ever written. Makes me think about life, death, and the after life. In fact words can't explain what this piece of music does to me. Thank you David for uploading this soul touching masterpiece.
Pleasure, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
YES!
I wish there was a button to double like a video. The paintings are so rich with color and texture that I would love to see them someday in person. Double thank you David Harris.
Glad you're still finding a few videos you like. Best wishes.
@ I’m coming across more every day David you were a busy man 8 years ago. Have a blessed day.
Thank you David Harris.
Pleasure.
Beautiful music and artwork it’s a shame I’m in town doing laundry. It’s going on my Classical Jams pt 3 to enjoy later as well. Thank you David Harris. By the by I concur also.
These things have to be done, it's dusting that I dislike.
Thank you for this inspired pairing. My absolute favourite English composer with Clausen’s beautiful ethereal paintings 🙏
Glad you enjoyed the video Stuart.
What a beautiful piece to sit on my bench of contemplation and listen to my wind chimes. Of course the beautiful works of art are far better than the windswept ravaged landscape of the flash flood aftermath that I look upon now. Thank you David Harris, you Sir are quite the artist yourself. I hope you and yours have a safe, healthy and prosperous new year ahead.
Glad you enjoyed the video John. Sorry to hear about the flash flood. Happy New Year to you and yours.
@ thank you Sir. The Flash floode really didn’t affect me it went around my place on both sides. It’s the water swept farms around me that were wash away. Crazy
Mum and dad got engaged in 1940 dad went to war. They married 1945 aged 20 and 21. A marriage made in heaven.
Such a shame about the advertisements which really ruin the mood.
Thank you for sharing this David. Belated Merry Christmas. Happy Holidays !!
Pleasure, glad you enjoyed it John. A likewise belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours.
George Butterworth was just one of the promising geniuses who were slaughtered in World War 1...look at all the poets!.... ...If Kaiser Wilhelm had not had his physical deformity & had not been subjected to his English mother's belittling of Germany in comparison to the "British Empire"... ...there may well have been no global conflict!...
David Harris do you get to live among these beautiful landscapes? A magnificent video Sir thanks for adding the words. That makes it all that much better.
Not the landscape depicted in these pictures, but I do live in a very pleasant area - woods and rivers.
@ right on.
Wow this reminds me of War Horse so much. Those beautiful animals taken from their homes and put through hell. As always David Harris you have blown my mind and enlightened me so. Thank you Sir.
Pleasure, glad you enjoyed it John.
Fabulous David...
Glad you enjoyed it Andy.
How do you do it David Harris? Each piece of art flowing just like the music does. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it John. Best wishes.
@ yes Sir
Merry Christmas,David Harris!Your channel is one of my ultimate favorites!❤
Happy Christmas to you Thea. I'm glad you enjoy the channel. Best wishes.
I get the feeling that the people here, so well depicted by George Clausen, were real people of rural England that he caught in a moment of their daily struggles to live off the unforgiving land. We see them here through his eyes as he skilfully captured their strength, sheer determination and inherent beauty. It shines through his pictures, as freshly today as it did, though separated as we are across the century or more that divides us.
Nicely put Sir.
Hey Merry Christmas David Harris! This reminds me of The Shamrock and Thistle, which recently sadly left the airwaves. We have been settling and working on the new house for 6 months now. Lots of painting, gardening, and decorating. Just finished the first Christmas here. Best of the holidays to you and yours, and happy 2025 if I don't speak to you again.
Hi Deborah, glad to hear you are getting on well in your new house. Merry Christmas to you and your family and I wish you a Happy New Year.
GAWD!, what a beautiful piece! ❤ And those paintings, stunning! 😍

Merry Christmas morning David Harris. It’s a foggy one here in New Mexico but the Bright cheerful piece along with the Summertime paintings let the sun come out. Blessings to you and yours Sir. Thank you
Happy Christmas to you and yours John, hope you have a lovely day.
@ thank you Sir
Well done again David Harris. Were it not for your good self and others like you, and the wonder of RUclips, Great music like this would be lost forever. The accompanying photographs and paintings are the equal of the music. Puting them together was masterful.
Glad you are finding a few videos you like Stewart, and thanks for the kind comments.
The artist here is the equal of the composer. Each lifts the other to another level. Putting them together was masterful.
❤Merry Christmas...dear friend Mr. Harris...may baby Jesus bring you much hope for something good, work, good health, peace!🎈✨🎄👏🏻👏🏻🎀🎶🥂🥂🐑🤗❗Sincerely from the bottom of my heart...🎄✨🥂🎀🐑....❤And be happy.. Cheers....🥂🍾......Malena

@@davidharris2844And with your spirit too...thank you very much dear David...My beloved DARK is decked out for Christmas...very happy and healthy, all calm, pure Christmas celebration and happiness🎈🎉🎄🐑🍀😄🧑🏻🎄✨🤗☀️🙏🏻🎀‼️.
It is difficult to accept that the paintings here are not photographs, as they have been linked inextricably by the skill of David Harris to this magical melody by Vaughan Williams. Perfection.
Another beautiful video David Harris. Each piece of art complimenting Gustav Hoist’s music. Would you happen to know if the Cross is actually there on the moores or added by Lewis Creighton? Either way it adds a somber feeling of joy. Thank you Sir.
It's on the North York Moors and, I believe, is known as Young Ralph's Cross.
@ I love history and reading of new places around the world. Thank you so much David Harris for indulging me.
I just love this music, and the artwork really adds to it. In fact, I've just bought a print of Colin W Burns. Thank you for posting.
Pleasure, glad you enjoyed the video Matt.
Look like real, extraordinary.
My mom was born in 1936 sometimes I think that I was born 30 years or so to late I love this music the era when women dressed like ladies the 50’s clothing I’m obsessed 😍
You almost step back in time and be there throughout the seasons ,quite a lifting piece with shades of melancholy, beautiful piece of music.
Rest in Peace George Butterworth your beautiful music lives on through folks like David Harris and his wonderful videos. Thank you David Harris.
Pleasure, glad you enjoyed it John.
@ if you don’t mind me asking, what part of the world are you from?
Born in the south of England and living in the north of England now - so English through and through. Cultures may differ, but people are basically the same wherever.
@ yes sir. I was born in Illinois and raised in Southeast New Mexico. My Father always said I was the only Yankee in the Family. Have a blessed afternoon and Holiday season.
I searched and searched and I finally found it David Harris. Thank you Sir.
It's a lovely carol, glad you enjoyed it John.
@ yes sir, I’ll be sending it out to my family come Christmas morning. Thank you.
Another pairing that really fits. The ominous melancholy music with a backdrop full of ominous cumulus clouds. Beautiful video David Harris.
I knew of Harold Darke, primarily because of his treatment of Christina Rossetti's poem "In the Bleak Midwinter", but James Lynch was a pleasant discovery a few years ago - one of those serendipitous moments. Glad you enjoyed it.
@ your videos give me so much to ponder and research I appreciate you Sir have a blessed evening.
@ I had to look up “The Bleak Midwinter” what a beautiful poem. The title had me expecting something so different. Thank you Sir.
Thank you David Harris this was a beautiful after service treat. Fine music and fine art, always a blessing.
Glad you enjoyed it John.
Good Sunday morning David Harris. You are now popping up on my feed. Woo Hoo for me. Thank you Sir for so many beautiful videos.
Morning to you too John, although it's mid-afternoon here. Hope you avoided a headache this morning.
@ I slept 5 hours straight last night and woke up feeling great. About to head out to Church. Have a blessed afternoon David.
How underplayed are so many of our composers. A lovely, serene peaceful piece.
I’ll be seeing you ❤ too❤
Thank you for this wonderful song.
