Hello David, Thank you for this beautiful look into the past, George Clausen depicted so well the life of simple people.. Over my life i have been privileged to encounter his paintings, either in the form of a simple postcard, or a page in a book, and at the Royal Academy in Piccadilly. Jan 1st 2025. I have just discovered your channel and what a marvellous start to the new year!! I'm not sure what more can be said about Vaughn William's masterpiece, but the Clausen paintings are stunning. Why Clausen isn't more celebrated I can't imagine. He reminds me so much of that other great recorder of rural life from an earlier age, Jean Francois Millet. By the way, which recording of the Tallis Fantasia is this? What a beautiful piece to sit on my bench of contemplation and listen to my wind chimes. Of course the beautiful works of art are far better than the windswept ravaged landscape of the flash flood aftermath that I look upon now. Mum and dad got engaged in 1940 dad went to war. They married 1945 aged 20 and 21. A marriage made in heaven.

George Butterworth was just one of the promising geniuses who were slaughtered in World War 1...look at all the poets!.... ...If Kaiser Wilhelm had not had his physical deformity & had not been subjected to his English mother's belittling of Germany in comparison to the "British Empire"... ...there may well have been no global conflict!...

I get the feeling that the people here, so well depicted by George Clausen, were real people of rural England that he caught in a moment of their daily struggles to live off the unforgiving land. We see them here through his eyes as he skilfully captured their strength, sheer determination and inherent beauty. It shines through his pictures, as freshly today as it did, though separated as we are across the century or more that divides us.

Hey Merry Christmas David Harris! This reminds me of The Shamrock and Thistle, which recently sadly left the airwaves. We have been settling and working on the new house for 6 months now. Lots of painting, gardening, and decorating. Just finished the first Christmas here. Best of the holidays to you and yours, and happy 2025 if I don't speak to you again.

It is difficult to accept that the paintings here are not photographs, as they have been linked inextricably by the skill of David Harris to this magical melody by Vaughan Williams. Perfection.

My mom was born in 1936 sometimes I think that I was born 30 years or so to late I love this music the era when women dressed like ladies the 50’s clothing I’m obsessed 😍
