      Hey, I’m still not sure tbh. I think it has to do with the weight that’s on my desk. I have quite a heavy monitor + stand + other gear, and so I think that all together makes that the desk goes into sort of a ‘prevention mode’ when it notices a lot of weight is pushing on the desk.

    Recently looking for a standing desk thought about this one because it looked quality. Unfortunately price has gone up $700+tax ($200 shipping) but there's a store 1hr from me. I don't like that it doesn't have presets (you have to use a phone app)... How's the stability? Many people neglect mention that. Thanks for the video gave me a better idea.

    • @doubleu1446
      @doubleu1446 2 года назад

      Thanks for the message!! $200 for shipping? That’s insane 😨! I picked mine up at the store with a small van. I never really use the presets in the phone app, also I find that they don’t really work too well. The stability is good for me, I haven’t had any problems with it, the only way I could see it being a bit wobbly is if you would lean on to the desk with your full weight maybe. Also, for the same price there’s perhaps other/better options available. If you have the option to go by a store to see the desk in real life before you buy, I would highly recommend it! It’s an investment, but it’s definitely worth the price and it saves your body (i.e. if you are prone to RSI, etc.) Hope this helps! If you have any other questions let me know, happy to help!

    Is that brown table top surface attracting a lot of dust? Is the surface smooth and easy to wipe from dust? I have a black table top in another Ikea table and it is just gathering dust in no time. It is also difficult to wipe the dust off since it tend to grab more to the table than a normal wooden or laminate finish, very annoying! Hoping it is just the paint on the ones I got. I have it on two Ikea black furnitures, the Hemnes and Bekant.

      Hey! I have a black monitor on my desk on which the dust is also very easily visible. For the desk itself, I’d say the dust is definitely not as visible as with a black background. It’s also easy to clean, I usually use wet wipes together with a microfibric cloth to clean the desk, which works perfect. Hope that helps!

    Thanks for the video! I've been using the desk for a few months now. Regarding the issue you mentioned, I haven't faced it in the beginning, but when I started adding more and more weights to my desk (2 monitors, full sized pc case, accessories), it started happening to me on the way down. I usually lift one monitor up while bringing the desk down to fix the issue temporarily to make it go down. I have a hunch that it may be happening to you even though your load is light, is that maybe you're pressing too hard on the controller that it simulates extra weight or an obstacle and forces the desk to stop. This may be the reason the issue happens to me on the way down only and not on the way up (and doesn't happen when using the bluetooth controller either). Great desk overall!

    Does IKEA provide tools in the box itself which helps in assembling the product? Also in the very first step can we adjust the width of the table

    • @doubleu1446
      @doubleu1446 2 года назад

      The box comes with something that looks like a screwdriver thingy, but I used my own tools, and I would recommend anyone else to do so too. In terms of adjusting the width of the table, I don't think you can because the table top has pre-drilled holes in it, in which you have to screw the bolts to mount it to the frame.

    Regarding the issue with the desk stopping and returning to a prior position: I noticed this happen to me when I was very slightly leaning on one corner while raising the desk (just to be clear, I wasn't applying a lot of force). It dawned on me that the collision detection could probably work by measuring power usage of the motors during operation and triggering it when over a threshold. I then was able to confirm it by slightly pressing down with my hand on top of either side of the desk while operating the height adjustment and this did indeed trigger the collision detection. Because of this, I suspect that it could also happen if the weight distribution on top of the desk isn't spread out evenly between both legs. Couple that with the extra weight you apply when operating the button and this seems plausible. I didn't try it but I bet this would happen much more often if I moved all the things on top of the desk on the side where the height adjustment button is installed.

    I have the desk too and I agree with all your points. I have the same problem with it stopping and returning to a position sometimes. I guess it is the collision detection, sometimes it seems to think something is obstructing the way (but there isn't). I noticed that when I use only Bluetooth App (on my phone) to move it, it doesn't do it, so maybe its the pressure from us pushing the button itself. One thing I think about is changing the compressed cardboard desk to hardwood, because when we attach these monitor mounts, it can break the desk. You, know because if you have two monitors or a laptop mount (so, 3 attachments) it's like it is too much weight to distribute on this cardboard...

Some monitor arms come with soft padding already. To spread the weight on the table top, you could also go for 2 separate monitor arms, instead of 1 which is able to carry 2 monitors. @@aguafria9565 Hi, I have not noticed any damage to the desk where the screw mount brackets come in contact with the desk. There is a softish, adhesive pad that makes contact with the desk itself and not the metal of the bracket. Hope this helps.

    I understand that it can be difficult for people to pronounce certain words correctly, especially if it is a foreign language. But at the same time, I will probably never stop feeling offended every time someone tries to pronounce a Swedish word and really slaughters it, this applies to the IKEA desk.

    your desk is waaaaaaaaaaay too low in siting position. Also according to the manual you need to wait when you set it several times. This could be the issue (heating protection), check manual?

      Hey, I've gotten multiple comments on the height of my desk while using it, I'm changing my behaviour from now on, thanks a lot for the help! I don't think its an 'heating' issue, as it also does it when i haven't used the desk overnight and then move it up or down again. I got a error code nr. 59: "Safety limit switch activated on channel 1". This error would mean that something would block the desk from moving and the desk then going into sort of a 'protection mode'. However, I'm sure nothing is blocking it, and I've already tried to reset the desk without any success. So I'm still clueless on whats going on 😅

    • @doubleu1446
      @doubleu1446 3 года назад

      Hmm, I think it could work, but I would not recommend it. I'd go for the original table top as it's made for the frame. However, if you specifically want the Karlby top then it could work, you'd just have to make some minor adjustments and maybe drill a few holes in the bottom of the table top to attach the frame of the Idasen. I'm sure there's some reddit forms or ytb videos about that option in particular. Make sure to do your reseach before you buy the set! Best of luck!!

    Can I use my table top i purchased from ikea already? or is it a specific kind?

    • @doubleu1446
      @doubleu1446 3 года назад

      Hi! The original table top comes with pre-drilled holes to screw the frame to. You should check if your table top has these holes already, if they do then it should work, but look for the sizes at ikea.com. If the table top you currently have doesn't have pre-drilled holes you could drill holes in it yourself, but then your warrens expires I think, and you have to be careful! I don't recommend drilling holes yourself

    Ik heb dit bureau ook sinds oktober en exact het zelfde probleem. Ikea heeft mij al een nieuwe adapter gestuurd, maar dat heeft ook niets verbeterd. Het is nu wachten op voorraad, dan mag ik het onderstel omruilen bij een van de winkels. Wel vervelend dat je dan zelf de voorraad in de gaten moet houden om dan de klantenservice te vragen om een "ruil bestelling" te doen. Uit ervaring al geleerd dat die notificaties op de site het niet doen :-(

    • @doubleu1446

      Zeer vervelend indd, ik gok dat het misschien een productiefout is dan als meerdere mensen hetzelfde probleem hebben. Ik had indd ook notificaties aangezet voor bepaalde producten maar krijg ze niet binnen, ik zie ook dat de Idasen al best een tijd niet meer op voorraad is. Allemaal niet heel handig 😅. Ik kreeg nog een tip dat het mogelijk iets met een voorkeurstand te maken zou kunnen hebben die je via de app kunt instellen. Dit ga ik nog checken maar heb de app nog nooit gebruikt dus lijkt me sterk dat het daar aan ligt. Mocht ik een oplossing vinden dan laat ik het weten!

    • @doubleu1446
      @doubleu1446 3 года назад

      Ik heb zojuist nog even gekeken, ik krijg via de app een foutmelding nr. E59 "Safety limit switch activated on channel 1". Dit zou betekenen dat er iets in de weg staat waardoor de Idasen als 'preventiemodus' terug gaan naar zijn originele hoogte. Ik heb al geprobeerd dingen weg te halen en weet zeker dat de Idasen niet geblokkeerd wordt door iets, maar toch blijft het. Misschien dat je iets met deze foutmelding kunt door het aan te geven aan de klantenservice. Hoop dat dit helpt & succes!

      Had ik inderdaad ook gezien in de app, heeft de klantenservice uiteindelijk niets mee gedaan volgens mij. Het hele elektrische deel hebben ze ingekocht bij Linak, betwijfel of ze daar echt veel vanaf weten bij IKEA.
